Robinson played the notorious gangster and anti-hero in "film noir" movies and was a fascinating figure in American cinema of the 1930s and 1940s. Gaining fame as the power-hungry slob and gangster, Edward G. Robinson led the life of a sensitive art enthusiast and avid pipe smoker. In its varieties and contrasts Edward G. Robinson's life shows similarities to "Edward G Ready Rubbed Flake". Gaining a tartly sweet character, the dark and pressed Red Virginias of assorted provenances have been finished with a little perique and brown Virginia. A touch of Kentucky tobacco gives the blend that extra something. "Edward G…Ready Rubbed Flake" captivates by its natural sweetness, which makes a mark on it without dominating. It is a blend just as distinctive, complex, interesting and multi-faceted as Edward G. Robinson's life and work.
Notes: The new tins also mention some black cavendish, as well as some Orientals/Turkish on it.

I have had the pleasure of smoking several HU tobaccos. They are all of exceptional quality and amongst them Edward G. is my favourite so far.
It is especially well composed: balanced so well that it´s complexity feels like simplicity. Like a really good jazz band playing something that you know is a difficult piece but they play so well together that it sounds ridiculously easy. Sweetness of the VAs is beautifully uplifted by other ingredients. Delicious nuttiness and tones of dried figs are complied with subtle notes of blackcurrant and lingonberry...
However, in spite of all the flavour nuances and multidimensionality it tastes like honest tobacco and relaxes ones mind as only the best smokes do. Edward G. does not require analysis to be enjoyed, in fact it makes you forget that kind of things. Packs and smokes flawlessly (straight from the tin) and is basically a pure pleasure all the way.
Highest recommendations.

I had this gifted about an ounce or so of this recently and I have to say, I got very lucky. There's not a lot I can add to previous reviews except to confirm that this is an excellent VaP best smoked slowly. Allusions to HU Director's Cut by Jiminks is not unwarranted, though I do find this milder in flavour, thoughts of Dunhill's Elizabethan and Germain's Perique Mixtures spring to mind. On the whole then, it's a long and pleasurable vacation to VaP City.

I think Kapt n' Cook has this review nailed. I don't have much to add other than I wonder if the curlies found in Edward G are the same as those in Director's Cut? My guess would be yes. EG starts out quite sweet and quickly moves to spicy and the Burley is there to be heard. Since Marlin Flake seems to be the blend that this is compared to, I'll toss in my view on that too. I like Marlin Flake and there is less casing on MF(if any at all), however, this is far more complex and interesting. Another four star blend for HU!

The sample bag smelled like a barn. Think old barn wood, hay, animals… it smells like a barn. It’s a good smell. There’s broken coins and bits and pieces of tobacco. Rather dry but works well. I have high expectations as HU makes wonderful stuff. Does this deliver?
Absolutely. The first thing that strikes me here is how mild the mouth feel is. It’s a light airy smoke in body but not in flavor. The flavor is grassy hay, honey, fresh cut cedar wood, with some very subtle fruit tones, flowers, and some black pepper spice. The spice is very noticeable on the retrohale but it’s worth it. It’s more hot spicy than tickle your nose white pepper. Has an almost floral herbal note on the retrohale, think black paper corns. There’s a subtle honey sweetness too. It’s just a wonderful natural tobacco flavor. Nicotine is medium, consistent flavor throughout.
Directors cut is my favorite HU blend so far but this one is contender…

My experience is completely different from the reviews here. I don't like it at all. I smoked it as it came out of the tin and also completely dry. It is tasteless. I can't smoke it. Should be coins ? My batch have not coins. Really bad.

A melange of ribbon,broken flake and curlies, Edward G should satisfy any lover of Va/Per blends. The Burley works very well adding a deep spicy note along with the Perique. There's also a hint of sweetness, maybe honey or molasses but applied with a discrete hand. This smokes cool and dry leaving a clean pipe and a refreshed palate. A very interesting and complex mixture that should age very well. Four stars indeed;-)
