Davidoff Scottish Mixture

(2.54)
Scottish Mixture’s smooth, flavorful and mild middle-cut blend is enduringly popular. The fresh and delicately flowery aroma comes from select grades of Virginia, burley, Kentucky and a small portion of Oriental tobaccos – refined with a dash of the finest Scotch whisky.

Tin note of moderately pungent, earthy sour vegetation. Tobacco is a Ready Rubbed of brown, dark brown and light brown. Moisture content is great, larger pieces may need a little rubbing. Burns moderately with few relights. The strength is mild to medium and nic is mild to medium. Flavoring is very mild, with notes of Scotch whisky. Mild whisky taste on initial light and falls to the background soon after. Taste is medium and moderately consistent, with notes of mild whisky, peaty vegetation, toast, herbal floral, nutty, zesty lemon grass, spices, savory, tart sour citrus, earth, molasses, bitter orange peel, acidic, a wood and tangy dark fruit background note, and a peppery retro. Burley and Kentucky seem to by swapping the lead with Oriental/Turkish and Virginia supporting. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great.

I like Virginia blends and this one is very mild, with a pinch of pepper. When I opened the tin, I noticed the smell of raisins. It packed easily and stayed lit all the way through. There was plenty of smoke and a noticeable hit of nicotine, but not overbearing. This is one of those blends you can light up and forget about as you go about your day: it's there, but doesn't get in the way. However, before you write this one off, the quality of the tobacco, like all Davidoff tobaccos, is outstanding. I recommend you try this mixture just for the subtleness of the flavor and quality of the tobacco.

This is the mild version of the danish mixture, despite that it has orientals as well, but in a mild quantity.. it is pleasant, smokes well, lights well and stays lit, until you puff very hard and don't tamp often. It is a bit mild for my taste, so I prefer the danish mixture to it, but it's a nice all day smoke

I really enjoy my pipe tobaccos that have a bit of spirits topping them so I decided to take a chance and bought a dusty tin from my local B&M. Upon opening one can defiantly tell this was topped with some sort of liquor, had I not known it was whisky I might have guessed rum but in no way was it overpowering. I have smoked enough blends to tell the blend is topped but it is very far from being an aromatic, the usual thin ribbons mixed with chunky Virginia flakes in various browns and black strands, at a perfect moisture to pack right from the tin. This is a tasty mix that reminds me of the best blends from Macbaren, Navy Mixture and Plumcake but without the bite. Not the best of the genre but I really enjoyed smoking a cob in the car on the way to work this week, after work the other half of the bowl made for a nice DGT ride home. Three stars!

Well the best thing I can say about this tobacco is that out of the three tins of Davidoff I purchased, this was the best. The tobacco is high quality and a hint of whiskey is picked up on the tongue. Personally, I buy Peterson Irish Whiskey and it is without a doubt my go to if I want a liquor cased tobacco. Davidoff disappoints yet again, but lives on for reasons unknown to me... Save your money and buy a tin of Peterson, frankly Da

The room note for this is fantastic, the taste is nice, but this can give a bite fairly quickly!

I have to rate this tobacco higher than the others even though you would expect something that tastes more like tobacco when it is called Scottish. I would call this a Scottish aromatic, I recommend though smoking it while drinking something (coffee, tea etc.) it doesn't taste so good even though it smells nice. I recommend this as it is quality tobacco that I would for sure buy again even though it is not in the daily rotation for me.

This one started like an old car that had been sitting out in the garage for several months -- with a sputter, a stall, and then...a smooth ride on a fine country road once I found the right pipe/technique. Not overly moist in the tin, in fact my first tin here is very restrained in it's use of humectants (though they seem to be in there).

Experimented in different pipes but never got the tongue bite others have mentioned, but then I'm not a hard puffer. I believe pipe baccy is to be sipped and savored, not cooked and burned down faster than you can say, "heel"! OK, humor is not my strong suit...moving on:

After trying it in a handful of pipes (all tries pleasant but unremarkable) I found the magic combo: my new Brigham 4-dot rusticated bent, with the Scottish Mixture gently rubbed out--this was the final touch needed for a really smooth, pleasant smoke. Try the rubbing-out; it really opens up the flavor of this blend while helping keep a bowlful lit easily (not a problem in any case but a performance improvement).

It's not exceptionally rich or complex (I'm mainly a non-aromatic smoker, leaning toward unflavored VA flake and Oriental mostly). It's just a pleasant, easygoing and pleasant smelling smoke (so I'm told), good for a backyard party or a hike in the woods with friends without a single complaint or sneer from anyone, but rather quite a few compliments about the aroma.

The flavor doesn't evolve or develop much from match to dottle but that's ok with me; I was looking for a pleasant spring/summer smoke primarily, meant to be enjoyable for others around me as well, with summer socializing in mind. My man at De La Concha in New York steered me toward this with those criteria in mind and he didn't disappoint. More tins to be stocked.

This mixture was given to me as a gift, non-tinned. It was of the precise moisture to dryness tobacco that I have tried. Usually blends are a little on the moist side for me, not this one perfect.

Strength: To my tastes this is up there in medium range of nicotine strength. You can really tell this one is going to give you a little more than others.

Flavoring: Now I tried this blend and noticed something unique about it. It wasn't until I read the description on here that it contained rare scotch whiskey...BAM...that is what I tasted oddly enough. BTW, goes great with Scottish Whiskey.

Room Note: Rather nice for me.

Taste: Taste was somewhat ashy at the initial 5 min mark, but is excellent during relights.

This Blend is recommended.

My Notes: While this isn't a " write home to momma " blend, it is something that if I ran out of...I would miss it. All in all a great blend. Nice to smoke one that doesn't have the usual Latakia smokey taste to it.

From me a very good blend just doesn't make it into my regular rotation. I might have it once a week.
