The Cyprian and Syrian latakias are little smoky, woody, barely sweet and kind of dry, but a bit dull. The Oriental/Turkish is dry, smoky and woody in a supporting role as is the perique, which has mild spice and plum notes. The Virginia offers a little grass and citrus, but is kind of plain. The sugary black cavendish is in the background. The sweet topping mutes the tobaccos a little. Has a mild nic-hit. Won't bite or get harsh. Burns at a moderate pace with an inconsistent flavor at times. Needs a few relights, and will leave a little moisture at the bottom of the pipe. The after taste is weaker than it should be.

My tin some large pieces of flake among the ribbon cut. Very mild and smooth, develops quite a lot of smoke in the beginning. The smoky sweet taste with some spicy notes is there, but somehow stays behind the curtain. This is not the full Latakia bomb I expected, more like a gentle treat. The faster you draw the fewer flavors you’ll get while too much heat kills it – so does the use of a charcoal filter.
Besides that, Best Blend is easy to handle, easy burning without moisture problems. Room note and aftertaste are typical for that kind of blend, however, not an issue at all in comparison to the BB Balkan Blend. Recommended for beginners and smokers who like it mild, maybe even as a before breakfast smoke.

A very interesting blend. While it is a latakia blend, there must be some kind of a sweet casing in this. My counterpart, JSB, who previously reviewed this blend commented it was like sweet wood chips on the BBQ. I would describe the sweetness as being more in the vanilla/root beer/butterscotch range of flavors. As I smoked my first bowl of this, I was enthralled by the unique flavor, but as I went down the bowl I began to be bored by it. The several times I have smoked this, I tired of it before I got to the bottom. I don't recall ever having that experience where I tire of a tobacco near the bottom. Usually I like it or I don't.
This tobacco does have a good room aroma for a latakia blend and for those of you who have a mate who does not appreciate latakia, this may be for you.
