I have to say I was nicely surprised by this mellow English blend. I am a fan of Villiger's dried cigars and so decided to take a flier on this. Money well spent...and not a lot of money either. On opening the tin I got a slight aroma of chocolate and a hint of plums, moisture content was a bit high so let it dry a bit. Smoking was a pleasure.....although it was still a tad moist and needed a bit attention. It started off with a nice mild taste and changed slightly thru the course of the bowl......however without even a hint of bite (and I did the Orient Express choo-choo for a bit just to see if it would bite...it didn't. Burned very even;y leaving just powdery white ash and very little dottle. It's not the most incredible English blend I've had, but it certainly was well worth the money and like another reviewer I am putting away a couple of tins for aging. A quality product, just like their dry cigars (which I cannot play golf without...).

I was very divided on rather to give this four stars or three. It is very very close in comparison to one of my favorite tobaccos: McClelland's Rose of Latakia. I am in love with the delicate balance offered by a gentle dose of latakia following a sweet Virginia/oriental base. It is so succulant and very forgiving with no tongue bite. The mild latakia gets slightly more pronounced mid bowl, which is a welcome transition. It burns to a dry ash and ends too quickly, leaving me wanting another bowl.

I have all of the Villager blends/ tins, and they are all good tobaccos. I have yet to be disappointed, and Early Day is no exception.
It is a solid English/ Balkan tobacco. I really like the flavor and punch of the Virginias in this one. A little spicy on the tongue, but no bite.
Smokes to a very fine ash and burns completely with no relights. I'll likely be buying this as long as the local B&M continues to carry it.
Update... I did get word from the hater in chief that it bothers her nose and throat when I smoke it indoors. Definitely still recommended.

Easy to smoke. Nice Latakia notes, spicy but mellow and not bitey. Good, but gentle nicotine level to wake you up. Leaves your mouth tasting good later. Just a great Englishy smoke. Enjoyed a very nice bowl this morning under the awning in the snow.
