Sutliff Tobacco Company Medium English #502
(3.40)
A medium strength blend, it’s a perfect introduction to English-style pipe smoking; rich, flavorful, but not overwhelming. This blend is a traditional mixture of red Virginia, earthy Turkish, burley, smoky Latakia, and perique.

Sutliff Tobacco Co. - Medium English #502.
I reviewed Sutliff's #302 Light English a few weeks ago, and enjoyed it, so I thought I'd post on #502 today.
The description says 'rich, flavourful, but not overwhelming', and that would make a perfect review. It has the nuances of a good English without knocking my teeth out with Latakia. The Lat' creates the strongest flavour, but is given a decent support from the others. The Virginia and Orientals form almost a 'bread and butter' backing; bready Va and buttery Orientals. The Burley is notable but I find the least flavour comes from the Perique; only a touch of sharpness. I'll mark none for flavouring as the only flavours I get I would expect to come from the tobaccos. It burns evenly, and is medium temperature.
Nicotine: medium. Room-note: quite nice.
#502? Because this arrives loosely pouched from bulk it doesn't give as classy a first impression as, say, a Davidoff tin. But it wouldn't be out of place in the most expensive packaging. Highly recommended:
Four stars.

At first light I taste the sweetness of the Red Virginia followed by the smokey Latakia. Then comes the spiciness of Perique, nutty Burley and sour Orential/Turkish. This is a perfectly balance blend. Nothing over powering the other. Easily an all day smoke for an English lover. I smoked this for a week and couldn't write anything down because every time I stuck the match I was lost in deep through. It was that easy to enjoy.

I picked up a couple ounces of this blend on a tobacconist's recommendation when I was exploring some English blends. Nice aroma pre-light, very good flavor and burn. No tongue bite to speak of, and although it was stored with heavy humectants (not sure if the tobacconist added it, or if it was manufactured that way), it seems to burn nice and cool, and does not produce gurgling if smoked sufficiently slowly.

Great tobacco, I use this tobacco as a sure thing smoke. I know it will have flavor, be an easy smoke, and also not bite too hard. I do find it bites a little when being lit but after its fine. Great tobacco. I tried breath smoking for the first time with this tobacco which is supposed to make the tobacco taste better and it did. You can look up breath smoking on google. This is a great tobacco.
