A mixture of hand-picked, first-class Basma leaf from Izmir (Smyrna under the Greek flag), mildly flowery with the finest, aromatic spice.

Notes: This is one specific varietal, called "Basma", grown in Izmir (Turkey). The city was formerly known as "Smyrna" when the Greek ruled the region, that's why people keep referring to it as both "Smyrna" and "Basma", yet it is the same varietal!

Mostly,I think Black Sea varietals, not my favourite ones.It has a kind of floral scent, reminding Camel cigarretes. With a stout portion of Perique makes a smokeable exotic blend. Why aren´t sold noble varieties,Xanthi,Kavalla,Agonya or Yayladag, this last the turkish brother of syrian Latakia?

Blending pure Basma...a single leaf for not that much complexity. The choice for a single leaf in a blending product... Risky and not completely satisfying.

Opening the tin I get the musky and tangy flavor of Orient immediately, but it lacks that "cheesyness" I sense in complex and aged Oriental Mixtures such as McConnell's one. That surely is due to a single kind of leaf in this one. I don't find that "spezialitat" in here.

It gets a little spicier in the second half of the bowl, but unfortunately doesn't grow in character or body. It doesn't satisfy although it makes clouds of full smoke. Soapy flavor rises too, making it difficult to enjoy and even the starting soft sweetness disappears.

It leaves only a soft incense flavor instead of complex oriental bouquet.

Probably is one of the lightest, under every aspect, oriental leaf to choose and preserve for blending. It is not impressive to be smoked alone anyway, so I'll keep it to add a little tangyness and dry earth flavor to some faint English mixture or home spare Mixtures.

Anyway I fear it may disappear behind any other strong or medium character tobacco.

The cut is ribbon and it is quite on the dry side just out of the tin. It burns decently slow with no relights and leaves a soft Grey Ash.

Somewhat recommended just to give the single leaf a try and because here in Italy it is not so easy to find a single leaf tobacco for blending purpose...but I advice to use and "waste" the marvellous McConnell Oriental for blending purpose anyway, to enjoy a rich, round and multiflavor oriental experience.

I cannot imagine for what reason would someone aromatize a supposedly naturally aromatic tobacco with, of all things, coconut! Out of the tin this tobacco smells like a Coppertone tanning lotion... The bad thing is it translates to the smoke. Actually it's not horrid, but it's not what I expect from an Oriental blending tobacco...

It comes almost shag cut and lights and smokes well, if a little quick but that is expected. Straight it is an ok tobacco with the coconut aroma being prominent at first while the Oriental tanginess grows as you smoke down the bowl. As a blender it shows the same behaviour. When the coconut aroma dissipates it's ok, not great. I am going to leave it in the jar for a while hoping the casing goes away.

Pure oriental tobacco. You can use only for blending. Mild, but tasteless with a final slightly bitter tinge. Not a great tobacco. Surely there is something better available on the market. My rating (from 0 to 10) is 4 and only a star.
