Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. No. 25 Mixture

(3.68)
No. 25 Mixture: this blend is another one for the smoker devoted to latakia. bright Virginias (53%) are blended predominantly with light burleys (17%), but the introduction of some dark sun-cured (10%) helps to both cool and sweeten the smoke. Finally, the addition of latakia (20%) gives the blend its main character.

Gawith Hoggarth No. 25 Mixture- This one is not a shag but a rough cut not unlike Esoterica Dunbar . It is a light English that is well balanced with all the tobaccos fairly equal in the mixture. The Latakia is always there in the background giving a slighly creamy , cool smokiness . The Virginias hay and citrus and sweetness. The sun cured pops in and out but definitely has a slighly sour and savory , with floral notes . What makes this different than most light English blends is the White Burley with sharp nutty and savory flavor that sometimes takes the lead and goes well with the Orientals . I like it . I detect no lakeland or added flavoring . Well blended and worth buying again because it is different and unique really . Gawith Hoggarth is probably my favorite blending house , maybe even surpassing Germain’s . And I am American but I like what i like ! 3

It's a very high quality English blend. Latakia firmly defines the general flavour profile without pushing forward. Just a perfect balance between Latakia and other tobaccos. The aroma and flavour of this blend remind me of old fragrant wood.

Unusually, the Burleys here successfully do the job reserved in most other English blends to Orientals: they add some fragrant spiciness. The Burleys in No.25 are of such spicy and aromatic kind, I'd think the blend contained some Orientals of the milder sort if I didn't know otherwise from the description.

The only thing I miss is sweetness. I expect any Latakia blend to include at least some sweetness, less or more, and this mixture lacks it entirely. Although it's promised in the manufacturer's description that the dark sun-cured leaf would sweeten the smoke, I don't taste any, so the smoke is completely dry, like the old wood, mentioned above.

A good mixture, Recommended for any Latakia lover.
