***UPDATE 10/2015***

Meanwhile my promising flirt with this tobacco has grown into a serious love affair. I just caught myself ordering a 200g bag for the third time since June. So I somehow managed to cremate, two small pouches included, a whole pound (metric, 500g) of that stuff in virtually no time. Although I don't have the feeling that I smoke it exclusively, it's by far the number one in my rotation. TNNG is uncomplicated, easy to like and totally reliable. The simple pleasure of a not-too-sweet and not-too-spicy tobacco that works hassle-free with every pipe I own.

***original review***

Timm's "No Name Gold" is a very bright VA that's only loosely pressed. It's sold mainly in 200g packages, cheap as dirt (50g pouches are also available). These foil bags by DTM are the closest thing to "true" bulk tobacco available here in Germany.

A gorgeous bale of uncut flake awaits the one who opens one of these bags. The smell of the unlit tobacco is neutral, bright and slightly sweet-ish, dry, almost a bit dusty. I tried it once, some time ago, and found it boring, but a friend of mine keeps mentioning it in my German facebook group, so I've decided to give it another try.

Not bad, really not bad, tends to smoke a bit hot, but leaves your tongue unmolested and doesn't taste off once it has cooled down again. Very sweet, I believe that there's a neutral sweetener added (which is okay for me). Sour notes are lacking completely, instead it's a bit rough around the edges, almost somewhat burley-eske, but I don't believe that there's actually burley in the blend. After the first 1/4 it develops a slight, but strangely fascinating spiciness that compliments the VA-sweetness very well. Imagine caramel toffees with a grain of sea salt.

A nice summer smoke for me that fills the gap Orlik's Golden Sliced left since I grew tired of the casing.

Excellent!

The tin note is pure Virginia. The flakes are cut to size and look like dried figs and smell that way, too. I've bought the bulk package - quite neatly presented in two rows of nicely sized flakes. The tobacco has a leathery touch to it.

After allowing it some time to breathe I just folded one half flake, plugged it into a flake pipe and enjoyed it to the last crumble. It needed some effort to light but after that required neither much tamping nor re-lighting.

I've experimented with drying times, rubbing more or less, different pipes and it all gives good and comparable results. Longer drying diminishes the taste only somewhat. I've found that fold-and-stuff and a flake pipe produces the most taste.  Conical bowls work well, too.

The taste is medium to full, sweet, as Virginia tastes: figs, plums and citrus. Not harsh in the least.

The room is tolerable to pleasant.

Highly recommended, attractively priced.

I got 10g free sample of this tobacco from my tobacconist. This is probably that kind of tobacco I'd never try to buy, but man, I was so lucky I had a chance to try it.

Right after opening the packaging, I was welcomed by very sweet and wonderfully fragrant smell.

My sample consisted of very broken pieces of flakes, with nice humidity, no need to dry. It took quite some effort to lit but that's likely because of my poor packing technique. It burns slowly, not too hot and the taste is absolutely heavenly. Very sweet, with light citrus notes, no bite at all (I use 9mm charcoal filter).

If you like sweet pure virginias, this is definitely something to try.
