I am sure that you all remember or know of the famous Lane Limited "Captain" series-- "Regular, Gold, and Royal".Well these are the MacBaren equivalents. Good news for aromatic smokers!I'm not one of them. Really like MacBaren's almost all of their Virginian/Perique/Latakia blends and can occasionally smoke some of their Virginia/Burley blends. Sometimes(for the Virginia/Burleys, that is). Smoked Dark Twist and Club Blend for mny many years in fact. Couldn't handle the Lane tobccos at all then or MacBaren copy now.Good quality tobaccos but why does MacBarens need another aromatic? For me a qualified "Not Reccomended"since I don't smoke aromatics. If you do have a good time with these new blends.

first tobacco i tried after returning to the pipe after 20 odd years........lovely smell when i opened the pouch....easy to light and keep lit. For me though there was just something missing, maybe I was looking for more taste, but this just did not do it for me, it just did not live up to the pouch smell, also burnt very hot towards the bottom of the bowl.....lovely aroma though.

I don't know what is is with Danes and crappy aromatics. But I guess there's a market for tobacco with no taste of tobacco whatsoever. This is really bad. First half of the bowl is a fight against vomiting - a really sour and artificial tasting experience....Yuk! Last half of the bowl gets a little better, and close your eyes and you might just get a hint of the fine chocolate Burley. But basically, both the Cavendish and the Burley are cased beyond recognition.

As usual the aroma is great, but I cannot for the love of God tell you what this really taste like! Oh yeah...and it leaves the back part of your mouth scorched. Can't help puffin' too hard too often, as the strength is non-existant.

A sudden urge to brush my teeth!

This is a very sweet blend that highlights the cavendish with accents of cocoa and vanilla. I cannot emphasize the sweetness enough, so for me it is a blend that I can crave as a substitute for sugar. It's a great as a "desserty" after dinner blend, but it is also wonderful with a morning coffee. The chocolate notes blend perfectly with a latte. This is definitely not an all day smoke for me on the account of its sweetness, but it can be for those with a sweet tooth.

This one is supposed to be the equivalent to Captain Black Regular, but I think it is a lot closer to Captain Black Royal. The tin aroma is that of vanilla and comes ready to smoke. The Cavendish is made in the European style, but with more Burley taste coming through. The vanilla is a bit chemical, but it wears off midway through the bowl. The Burley provides plenty of cmoke, unlike the Gold version. The Gold version has the Virginia tobacco take center stage. My wife likes the aroma, but it is still not a favorite. Towards the end of the bowl, the confections dim and the tobacco taste comes to the front. No bite. As the bowl ends, the vanilla does make one last appearance. I have not noticed that this stuff will ghost your pipe. This is one that a lot of American smokers will find familiar. A larger pipe seems better for this type of blend.

You have to be minded that this is a strong aromatic tobacco, really wet and for sure full of chemicals. Apart from that, delivers what we expect from this sort of blend. For the ones who like aromatic, this is definitely a option to have a try. Easy to find, good room note, nice and dense smoke.

I do not typically enjoy aromatics, I prefer the straight taste of my tobacco blends. However, after hearing some good things about this one and wanting to try to explore things I wouldn't normally, I decided to pick up a tin of this stuff and I can't say that I disliked it.

While I wouldn't smoke this on a regular basis, the two bowls I've had since receiving it were enjoyable. The flavoring is not overpowering but is certainly noticable, although I didn't detect any of the chocolate that it's said to have, I did taste the vanilla and also a bit of a caramelly flavor.

To put it plain and simple this is one of the best if not the best cheap aromatic tobacco. In this price range it's one of the few choices to buy something good.

Chocolate and cocoa are the tastes that strike me the most but some vanilla and coffee were detected as well. It burns really good and it makes for a good smoking experience with no tongue bite at all.

Due to it's price and quality it's one tobacco that you should consider trying. Sure there are better out there but in higher prices.

Preparation & Burn: 6/10 A bit damp. Cheap course cut. Burns cool, no bite. A few re-lights required.

Taste: 6/20 Kind of vanilla-sweetness but otherwise not much of a clear flavor identity. No tobacco taste, so there's really no body here. It's basically tasty air rather than smoke, so that subtracts points for me.

Mildness: 10/10 My idea of a good smoke is a relaxing, low nicotine session. Therefore, the milder the better. I barely detect any nicotine here. Perfect!

Once again, a blend that I probably would’ve never bought myself. Lucky is the man who has a caring friend and so it happened that I found myself opening a pouch that I received as a gift.

Look is of mostly dark color with some golden sprinkles and a rather raw mixture cut. Cold Smell is of hard, straight to the face chocolate aroma with no tobacco detectable. Not too moist so I just get it out of the pouch and let it rest for some minutes then pack it in a medium to large sized bowl to leave it some space. Takes flames nicely and burns slow and steady.

Awaiting a hard hit of chocolate flavor, the first puffs after lighting surprise me a lot as I get a mild taste of sweet tobaccos (cavendish and burley) that combine to a taste that reminds me of cigarillos. When continuing the smoke you can clearly taste that sugar coated cocoa topping as smelled in the pouch but not as penetrating as in the smell. Tastes of tobacco come through from time to time mostly cavendish and hints of hay but the added flavor is clearly predominant. Sweet, liquorish and dark chocolate notes leading the way as they do in the room note which is also recognized as pleasant cigar-like. The topping loses a bit in strength after half of the bowl but the smoke doesn’t get bitter like some aros when the topping drifts away.

Surely not an all day smoke for me but not unpleasant when I get a sweet tooth, what happens...sometimes
