It was golden oldie's night at our most recent pipe club meeting. Everyone was supposed to bring a blend from the past that they enjoyed to share. How Conan Doyle got in the mix I do not know. One of the club members brought it in a baggie (don't know if this one was tinned or not), and it was crunch dry; just the way I like my tobacco. So, while others were sucking on Revelation, Amphora Red, Captain Black White and Lane's 1Q, I grabbed that pouch of Conan. Latakia was evident immediately and the Virginia was a background player and nipped the tongue whenever I puffed with any degree of cadence that cut the 10-second per puff mark. Not a lot of depth to the Latakia and the Virginia taste was a little on the stringy side. If Sir Conan puffed on this stuff, then I totally understand the Persian Slipper thing with Sherlock.
