If you like cheap cigars, this may be an ideal blend for you. This reminded me of a Dutch Masters corona deluxe that had been soaked in vanilla extract. This was a bulk sample that, given its obvious moisture in the bag, I did not transfer to a jar for safekeeping. Yet, 6 months after sitting in the bag, it is still wet and sticky to the touch. The leaf is jet black, and when held up to the light is actually translucent from all the casing, and more chocolate brown in color than black. Amazingly, the casing actually stained the inside of the bag. It smells of artificial, chemically vanilla, and the vanilla topping barely comes through in the taste. I dried a couple bowls worth out by leaving it in a room with a dehumidifier running, and came back two days later to more manageable and smokable dark brown leaf. This tobacco tastes like your least favorite cheap cigar. It starts out with an inoffensive cheap cigar flavor profile that rapidly unfolds into a sour acrid mess. This marks one of the few times that I can ever recall saying to myself after half a bowl, “I am never smoking this again.” Visually it is appealing, and the idea of a simple vanilla aromatic isn’t unattractive. Don’t be fooled.

This is a very nice blend of tobacco. When opening the tin, you are greeted by a mild vanilla scent which has no over powering traits. It is a very dark, broken type tobacco. it is soft, and mild and packs well. The humidity is nice. It may burn better with a 30 min. sit out, but still lit nicely. No overbearing sweetness detected, and not a burn or bite to it. I am an aromatic smoker, mostly and this one is an easy all day smoke.. I like the hearth and home egg nog as my number one smoke, but this is a very close second.. Burned evenly down to a nice ash and the room note its great. Try out out.

This was quite a boring smoke, one dimensional and weak. Flat, I'd say. But, if one is after a very mild, plain vanilla tobacco with no trace of the leaf below the topping this might be for you. Mechanically it is a smooth blend, so if the lack of flavour does not deter you go ahead and try.

Taste: Vanilla, or at least something sweet. Nothing else.

Mechanics: Needs some drying but not much, burns fairly well and doesn't bite. Mild in nicotine.

Green River Vanilla is an excellent tobacco alone! Its full sweet and tasty, has no bite, and smells terrific. Theres just a little something missing, while testing other blends I tried #103 Big & Burley and loved it,but it was a little too much for me to smoke all the time. Then I had the bright Idea to mix a pinch of the B&B to a pipe full of GRV,what I did was create my all time favorite. When I smoke the B&B alone I cant really taste the latakia or turkish, but mixed with the GRV every now and then I get a hint of them both. Thanks to the B&B the nicotine gets a small boost, and combined with the GRV theres a flavor explosion. I love it and highly recommend trying it for yourself.

Update: I have recently tried a pinch of Burley flake #3 in a pipe full of GRV and its another hit for me! The flake/GRV mix is a little more refined and slightly sweeter than Big & Burley.Very rich and full...I love burelys!

Cool smoking and mellow. Vanilla reminds of sugar cookies. Usually a bit wet and benefits from some drying. I always have some on hand. There is nothing remarkable, but it is a solid gental smoke or a decent mixer.

I bought this as a sample pack here in Australia and could not believe how soggy and goopy it was, perhaps i simply drew the short straw and got what was left in the bulk bag . The burley is black as imagined from a fire cure with poor bag note other than a sour bitter tea smell , the bowl was difficult to light with the crackling sound of bacon on an over hot bbq plate , producing little smoke cloud and poor flavor to access and could not keep my bowl alight . Other C&D products i have bought from this Aussie distributor have been good but need to alert fellow Australians not to bother with GRV from this retailer.

It's just OK. Smooth, vanilla sweet, with maybe something slightly sour. Like a vanilla green tea almost? Doesn't bite, nothing nasty, makes a lovely room note.

Not one I'd really want to get again though.

You can quote my Peter Stokkebye's Dansk Black review almost word for word for this blend. And now I have to come up with at least nine more words! (oops! that was thirteen).

Being a fan of aromatics, such as myself, i try hard into giving my best shot on each blend that i try. Most are pretty good and some just does nothing for me. This blend from C&D just doesn't cut it. I was rather hoping that it could at least give MacBarens Vanilla creme a run for its money and taste, but it falls way short of even being a delightful aromatic smoke. Upon opening my tin of this promising stuff, i found that it could most definetly air out for a few days. It was hard to light and stay lit and normally i don't have a problem with that. G.R.V reminds me of a few Mclelland blends that i've tried. Too moist and goopy to even think about burning a bowl. Sorry, but this just doesn't cut it for me.

The 2 oz tin I got of this was just a tiny bit on the moist side so, I usually let some air out before smoking. This has a very mild Vanilla flavor and for me, it tasted more like a mild liqueur. What you mostly taste, however, is a quality Burley that burns nicely and doesn't smoke hot so long as you're not a huffer and a puffer. This was one my first pipe tobaccos and I would recommend this to most beginners. I might buy this in the future again but probably not right away as the taste is, well, maybe not one dimensional, but more like two dimensional: good burley and mild, not overpowering flavor. Still, a good, quality tobacco from C&D.
