Sutliff Tobacco Company Frosty Mint 2008

(2.82)
If ever invigorating could be used to describe a pipe blend, this surely would be the one. Chocolate and Mint, applied to Black Cavendish, pressed Virginia ribbon and rich Burley.

"Frosty mint" is the incredible effort in the search for getting the experience on how should be smoking the arctic and the antarctic in just one pipeful. A mouthful of gelid ice from the first puff. Somehow it reminds me of licking a Halls drop, been the only difference that in here you dont lick but smoke it. If you resist the persistence from the intense flavour you may, with some fortune detect the cardinal presence from virginias. Cavendish dominate making it a mild strength smoke while extremely intense in flavoring. Burley is barely noticiable although there is a hint from it in the dry astringency that the smoke brings.

I think it is in the second half to the last third of the smoke when it becomes more tobbacoish and you can detect the ingredients, but fact is most people cant bear to reach till that point because of the initial mint intensity.

In my opinion this is a blend that may be exclusively to experiment with. I have played adding it a bit of latakia, some oriental and increase the virginia and the results had been quite amazing, i have called this personal one "Transylvania" and friends have liked it.

First things first. I gave this tobacco 5 stars because during the years I smoked cigarettes it was only and I mean only Kool non filters and roll my own Prince Albert. If you were not a menthol smoker you may think otherwise about my following comments. In MHO this is the old Kool's from the 60's and early 70's, no ifs ands or buts about it. Real tobacco taste (like PA) with a full share of menthol (like the old non-filter Kool's). As much as I like it, it is not an every day smoke as it is much like a box of Junior Mints at the movies, i.e. once you leave the movie you go get some real chow and do not eat more candy for dinner. As good as Junior Mints are, if that is the only thing you have to eat all week you will grow weary soon. If you are an ex-cigarette smoker and did not like menthol's, you better only buy one ounce in case you choose to stay away from this blend. If you were a menthol smoker, I feel you will want to buy 1/2 pound, put it up in a tightly sealed mason jar and keep it around for a great once or thrice a week smoke. To me and the Angel Wife, the smell is great and the after taste is sort of refreshing. Try this while drinking iced or hot tea. A good mix. With coffee, uh, not so good. You could puff this like a freight train climbing Mt. Everest and not get tongue burn. It does not ghost either of the two pipes I smoke this in but again, I only smoke one, maybe two bowls per week of this stuff in each of these pipes. I usually follow up with the next smoke in these pipes being Hobbits Weed or Spillman. Neither have any menthol ghost follow up to my taste buds. Sutliff did an amazing job with this mix. I have a full cabinet of many pipe tobaccos because we are truly living in a great age of pipe tobaccos. This will stay as a regular in the tobacco cabinet for as long as I can order. Thank you Sutliff for stepping out and filling a taste and smoke that is a good addition to the current tobacco mix pile.

I don't really know what to say, this stuff came shipped with another order, and it had to be packed separate......that should tell ya' something. This stuff is extremely "minty", and has the taste of hmmmm, cigarettes? Dunno, all I can tell you is that I cant recommend this one. I smoked about a quarter bowl, dumped it, and threw the pouch in the back seat and reached for the "Sutliff Vanilla Custard." If you wanna try it, good luck!

I had them double bag it, and it's still all i could smell when opening the box. I would absolutely not order this with other bulk tobaccos, get yourself a sample and then order by the pound if you like it, separate from other orders.

Smells just like a peppermint patty in the bag. The menthol is overpowering in the smoke, my mouth is freezing. I do taste some chocolate as well, and crazily enough some tobacco does shine through. Also corn chips. Very strange. I'm thankful i chose to smoke this in a little clay, i imagine the ghost must be ridiculous.

If you're a menthol fiend, maybe this is for you? Kind of blows my mind that anyone would want to smoke this.

Highly recommended to try at least once for the novelty, highly recommended if you want to be blasted in the face with menthol. Otherwise, not at all recommended.

I wanted a tobacco for the Christmas season and found exactly what I was looking for. The mint is immediate and lasts the entire bowl. The chocolate is definitely there and adds a smoothing after note. If you have just had a very filling complex meal, this cleans my palate. I can see what some people say about this being too strong and I wouldn't smoke Frosty Mint all day. If you are stuffed up a slow smoke in a "nose warmer" should clear you up. All said and done, a bowl on a winter evening by the fire reading stories to the grandkids would make for the end of a good day.

On occasion, I like a good mint tobacco. Sutliff mint will provide this need without a doubt. The pouch note was a strong mint. It came to me a little moist so I gave it a little drying time but left it a little damp. The mint will smack you in the face when you start smoking it. If you are looking for a subtle mint smoke, move on. But if you are looking for a level of mint closer to a menthol cigarette, then give this one a try. The tobacco burns well and I found it to be enjoyable, but not something I could smoke all day. CAUTION: It will ghost your pipe. I used a brand new Missouri Meerschaum Diplomat and after a thorough cleaning, I still had a mint flavor,

This blend is exactly what it advertises - MINT. NOt a bad thing!

You have to appreciate mint before you even think about trying this one. The mint taste overpowered my entire mouth, seemingly coating it in mint taste after only a few puffs. I would only recommend mixing this one with one of your favorite blends to give it an aromatic effect, but even then only a slight sprinkle of this mix will suffice - it is that strong.

UPDATE: After trying new aromatics, I am dropping my review of this blend from three to two stars. There are better ones out there.
