WOW! This blend is strong as a bull. I like strong blends myself though not all the time. This blend fits the bill when looking to chill out a bit. It's an ass-kicker. I put it alongside of Five Brothers and Old Joe Krantz with OJK being the mildest of the three.

I can't taste any particlular flavorings or toppings here. Maybe that's just me. I'm just getting serious tobacco coming through my pipes. I haven't smoked too many of C&D's blends and this is the most hardcore yet. The room note seems to be tolerable but not stinky like a latakia blend. Trust me, if it smelled badly I'd have heard from the peanut gallery at home.

It is a little moist out of the package. BF #1 surprised me as being easy to light and burn despite its moist feeling right in the package. I set a couple bowls worth under a desk lamp just to see what happens only long enough to take the moist feel out of it. Still Strong as a Bull. I have no complaints here at all. I just wish it were available in bulk.

I suggest that it's not for a beginner unless one is coming off non-filtered cigarettes. I rate this as a STRONG THREE STARS.

This blend is one of the best strong blends I have ever tried. Usually I stay away from this kind of strong blends which oftenly causes hick-ups to me. This time I am not regretful.

The mellow Burley and Virginia from this tin offered me all the nicotine and true man's real tobacco taste. These needs are guaranteed upon on first lighting this blend. It smokes cool and if you pay attention on your puffing rhythm you will enjoy all the strengthness till the bottom of your bowl. The Perique addition makes it even more dangerous which is enjoyable before the first half of the bowl and all the combination keeps you awake t?ll the end. No sweetness here. All you get ?s a punch of nicotine and full cigar like tobacco flavor.

Recommended for mature pipe smokers. I personally am smoking this stuff in a medium sized bowl, after dinner accompanied with a favorite bourbon or scotch. Then sleep as a baby.

I like this tobacco! after trying Solani Aged Burley Flake, I ws embolded by the notion that not all Burleys had to be flat and dull. This is, of course, a blend with va and perique, but the burley component is not small here. It is very burley forward in taste.

The va offers some nuance to the burley and the perique gives a nice spice ovrall. The vitamin N is sufficient here to satisfy me and the overall body and depth of the smoke very nice indeed. Can't really recall any real downsides to this one other than to watch your cadence. It can become flat and bitter if puffed too fast.

A good solid servicable tobacco suitable to all day smoking if desired. Definately for the hardier tobacco fan.

This flake has more Virginia, red Virginia than the other two. Thus it is a trifle sweeter than #2 or # 3. Still plenty of nutty burley.

It is stronger than #2 (my favorite of the series) and close to # 3 in body (which has more Kentucky to my senses). Full on the palate for sure. Smooth, no bite.

Slight comparison can be made to Pease's Kentucky Burley/Virginia blend (Cumberland which I like better than this), but this is a flake. The flakes do break apart easily and a thick ribbon is left. Burns well.

Recommended to burley lovers.

C&D- Burley flake #1

I recently purchased this on a whim, after listening to a podcast discussing the burley flake series, after a little research about the various differences in 1 through 5, I decided one would be right up my alley.

My tin is dated 27Aug19, it was slightly moist upon opening, and as with all C&D blends this is more broken flake than flake, something I’ve grown accustomed to at this point. This rubs out easily and packs easily also.

Upon first opening the smell is plum, woodsy earth and sweet freshly clipped grass. I have to admit I should have let this dry a few more minutes but I was ready to light this up.

Upon the first few puffs I got some small peppery note but mostly woodsy tree nut flavors with a little grassiness. This blend tastes great, I’m enjoying the mix of flavors, it’s staying lit well enough and the nic hit is just past medium. The Perique can be a little rough around the edges at times.

Im happy that I tried this blend, happier that I ordered another tin as this will be a nice morning coffee accompanying blend, with age the blend will smooth out and provided a more well balance smoke.

This blend reminds me of C&D’s five o clock shadow, probably more so due to similar components but if you like this try that one also.

In my opinion, the real difference between flakes 1-3 is the amount of Kentucky. #1 has the Kentucky, but it plays in the background. While with #3, it’s the main player. I’m sure the other proportions vary also, but that tang from the ky is what I notice most. As far as nicotine goes. I think #1 might pack the biggest punch. Even though it’s not the most full flavored of the bunch. I think the fact that it burns so slow contributes to the strength.

This is a full-bodied broken burley flake similar to Old Joe Krantz in many fronts. It packs quite a punch both in flavour and nicotine, so be advised. Also, it can develop harsh spots that could be misconstrued as tongue-bite, and the room-note can be overwhelming to those around you. I think this tobacco will require a process of acclimation and adjusting if you are to fully appreciate this blend for what it is. That is to say you might be in for a little bit of a shock if you are not used to burley blends. The flavour is deep, rich and dark, and can be reminiscent of cigar leaf at times. The perique leaf is quite apparent adding sort of a peppery note to it. I think this could be a great evening/after tea blend that will perform best in smaller size bowls. It is worth trying, but does not quite reach 4 stars for me.

Received a tin of this last week. The flakes are neatly presented and had a wonderful deep and dark aroma akin to Solani Aged Burley flakes. The perique was detectable however not overpowering.

Upon initial light the twang of the Perique just shot straight up and I was delighted with the taste this tobacco had given the faint perique aroma in the tin note. I quickly discovered that this tobacco is not for the faint hearted. It had a very full body with loads of Vitamin N. Sip and you shall survive..

Mid bowl, the blend maintained a very dark mysterious taste profile. It did not go here not there, did not take you on a perilous journey. It is a long straight road, yet delightful with every sip.

Beware, do try this blend in a small bowled pipe beforehand or you might find that you have bargained more than you have asked for.

Although some of us described this blend's cut as a flake, I agree with Jacinto Cupboard. The cut is a tin full of 1/4 inch wide by two inch strips and I've never encountered this cut before. They don't so much rub out as break into smaller sections, and that's okay. The tin aroma is fairly strong and burley nutty with an undercurrent of red Virginia and perique - yes, I can detect the small amount of perique. The tin aroma is not quite as strong as BF #4, the only other BF blend I have smoked at this time, and lacks the "dirty socks" bouquet of #4 that I thought was wonderful. The smoking aroma is what you might expect from a burley/Virginia mixture; strong, nutty and grassy at the same time. The perique adds just a little edge and I liked that. All in all, not my idea of an everyday smoke and, if I were to score it on that basis, I would give this blend a two star rating. However, I began to use it as my burley component in blending and it worked-out fabulously. Based on this I am rating BF #1 as a three star blend.

A mellow, solid Burley blend. The Perique is hardly noticeable, but what I do taste is a good amount of Kentucky (or something very similar) which makes this tobacco quite similar to GLPease Cumberland.

I have to take 1 star from it since I find this mixture a bit astringent towards the end of the bowl.
