D & R Tobacco - Rimboche S.J.
The first observation I made was how dry the ribbons were. They felt crunchy under touch. This causes both a fast burn, and the deduction of points!
On to the smoke: due to the dryness it's easily lit. I get only a small amount of Virginia, but a heap load of Perique. There seems to be that much of it not only do I get a fruity spiciness, but also a sharp sensation on my palate. Like I said, the burn's very quick, but on the plus side it doesn't need much maintenance once it's going!
For the nicotine I'm going to be the first to rate it as medium to strong, but I'll go with the majority on the room-note: tolerable.
To round up, due to a few issues: speed, sharpness and bite, I can only somewhat recommend Rimboche.
Two stars.

Daughters & Ryan - Rimboche SJ
I had bought a 40 gram tin of ol SJ several years back and found it a doable substitute for my then-standard va/p Louisiana Red, with the caveat that SJ was more spicy and also more powerful, and dryer. More recently I had gotten ahold of a larger 3½ ounce cottage cheese tub. Unfortunately I had not the brilliance to think of re-hydrating this tub. Admittedly, while I don't mind drying a tobacco that's a little too moist, moistening one that's too dry has always been kind of a turn off. The result was that I found this one harsh, with a subdued sweetness, more spice than I really cared for, and less flavor overall than I might've gotten...? I soldiered through half this tub and gave the rest to my neighbor who was looking for something different to roll cigarettes with. No word on what he thought of it. My favorite thing about this blend is the picture of the fellow on the tin, who bears a resemblance to my uncle circa 1958. I see this is a comparatively empty review I've just written but I found the tobacco too spicy and harsh in its native bone-dry state to think of much else. One who wishes to put the effort into hydrating the contents of the tub will surely find this blend more enjoyable than I did.

I was expecting too much perhaps. I found this, right out of a freshly opened tin, to be rather dry. It's OK but I can't really get too excited about this. I have seen in other reviews "generous amounts" of perique but while it's detectable, "generous" wouldn't be my word for it. Wasn't bad, just underwhelming. I want to give it 1 star but don't want to slam the stuff either, it just wasn't for me.

The tin note is dried apricot with fig. The smoke is cool and dry. The 2 thirds are herbal with a little spiciness and a sugary-creamy taste. The last third may be on a plum and wine (porto?) side - but not easy to identify. It is a light perique. No big issues (no harsh, no bite, no tasty mess ...) but not my cup of coffee.
