This is the lightest, smoothest, most delicious natural pipe tobacco in production. How did it receive low ratings? I smoke this stuff all day long - half my briars are seasoned for it and get nothing else put through them. It's sweet and easy to smoke, burns cool and dry all the way down, and costs around a buck twenty-five an ounce. With notes of grassy lemon, cream, caramel, and graham cracker, the only think missing from this blend is the nicotine and the chest congestion that goes along with it. If you're just wondering what's in your daily smoke and want clean, raw tobacco take your pick elsewhere, honestly. Lots of good tobacco is raw enough for me to smoke - if you also savor the flavor then Platinum Edition of Windsail is incredible. Age it for a few months and it can sing. There are floral notes that will surprise you.
But it does taste a bit bland in a cob, it does sometimes feel like you’re only smoking air - oh, and it is a way better smoke with Ramback mixed in. However, I thought I would pack up my 50/50 blend just now to go along with some other things and couldn't focus on anything else but the taste - wow. Platinum leaves tangy sweetness on the tongue, yet the full effect is only realized under scrutiny. Those delicate, creamy nuances continue throughout the profile and are not simply constrained to the punch - it's lemony dew floating on a cloud of sugar and hay. These flavor experiences get muddled in a caked-up and dirty pipe, but in THIS pipe - after sitting on the rack for over a week now, it would cost me over a hundred dollars and years of breaking in to replace it, I clean it after ever use - even the ashes of Windsail Platinum are sweeter than any candied cavendish I've ever smoked.
