I 'found' this tobacco in a tabac shop in Benodet, Brittany France on my summer vacation. The owner, an old guy whom appeared to have seen everything, recommended this Schippers tabac to me as a worthy pipe tobacco worth trying. So I did. Boy was I pleased, it was wonderful! I opened the 50g packet, it was all tightly clumped together, dry not too moist, and smelled of spicy creamy cocoa, with a hint of orange. I quickly packed a bowl, very fine tobacco this, and lit up... Wow, creamy, spicy, with a slight bitter cocoa taste with a hint of orange, beautiful. It burned very easily & quickly, in fact it was all gone, in a short time, just a small bit of ash left, no tongue bite, not hot, just really enjoyable.

Definitely need to pack it a little tighter than normal, or else it will disappear too quickly. In fact once packed nicely, it will puff away without any relights with fabulous smoke bellowing out, wonderful. I went back to the tabac a few days later and bought another 2 packets, which I wouldn't normally do. It has become one of my everyday smokes.

Well worth trying, especially if you enjoy a quick smoke without any fuss.

The smoky, woody, dry, earthy, floral, herbal and spicy Orientals are fairly prominent (but not strong). There's a just a little hint of cigar to go with the spice, wood, earth, lightly sour, nutty notes from the dark fired Kentucky, which is a secondary star. The chocolate, earth, wood and nuts from the burleys are noticeable, more so when hydrated, which also enhances that nice smoky taste as a supporting player. In the background is mild tart and tangy citrusy, grassy, orange Virginias. The cocoa topping sublimates the tobaccos to a moderate degree. The strength is a couple of steps past the center of mild to medium. The nic-hit is in that center. The taste just reaches the medium mark. Has a few rough edges. As it is a shag cut, it burns fast, but it does not bite, and burns fairly smoothly all the way to the very end with a very consistent flavor, though it needs to sipped more than puffed. I recommend a little hydration. Leaves virtually no dampness in the bowl, and requires few relights. Has a pleasant, lightly lingering after taste. Can be an all day smoke, though possibly not one for the novice.

I can almost afford tobacco in Belgium*, and this is by far the least unpleasant. Sorry to be negative, but most of my favourites have been ruined by Orlik, and this seems to have escaped. Nothing special (despite the name) but no vices, and can be smoked in a very small after-breakfast pipe, as well as in a decent sized evening pipe. Keeps me happy! * as opposed to the UK!

I find this an "honest" tobacco without an attempt to make it taste like cherries or truffles or vanilla ice-creme. It tastes to me like is is based on the semois burley tabaccos from Belgium. The added elements make it smoke a little lighter and without so much nicotine punch as the pure semois taboccos yet it is still quite strong. To be honest I prefer to mix it with a mild pure virginia to get the nicotine down to a level which i enjoy.

I would not call this cut a shag but rather a thin ribbon cut. I personally do not find it an everyday smoke because it is on the strong side for me.

I surely recommend it especially for those who are looking for a strong honest tobacco that tastes like tobacco.

again the program does not allow for smokers who only smoke out of doors as to room note.

I most enjoyed this tobacco with a Ludwig Lorenz double filter pipe.

This mixture is a shag cut so it will burn faster than others tobaccos. The pouch smells like pure tobacco with some hint of mint. The moisture is just perfect, on the dry side but not too dry. It tastes like tobacco, I can't feel the burley but I suppose it adds sweetness combined with the orange virginia and it helps mellowing the strenght of kentucky. The flavor has something like cigarish and balsamic. Room note it's not a big deal, it's mild and not noticeable for a smoker. I recommend it, but not to newbie smokers. (It suffers relights and it turns a bit harsh and clogs my throath, but paying attention can lead to the end of the smoke just with the charring light.)

I took this tobacco to experience the baai cut and I was very pleased. The tobacco is very dry and it's up to you to smoked it like that or moist it again. I've tried both and in both ways it is very good. I've also used to roll up some cigarette and they were strong but ok. At the end, this tobacco give you a pleasant smoke and very fresh, you've to keep an eye on the charging. If the tobacco is dry you've to press it a lot if not is up to you.

I am in luck because one of the best pipe makers in France (Jean Nicolas), lives in the same city as me (Lyon). He is the one who recommended this tobacco as one very good and cheaper pipe tobaccos on the market. The tobacco colour is on the dark side, almost shag cut, smells real nice of cocoa and pure strong tobacco.

This tobacco keeps burning easily and should be puffed real slow. It is very very pleasant, I could smoke it all day. Cocoa flavoured, more than chocolate, the virginias blend amazingly, the kentucky here, gives it a kick as well. Room note is tolerable. Why not 4 stars? Well, even when smoked gently and slowly, it smokes a tad bit fast. No tongue bite however. Recommended.

My basic for all days tobacco. No tongue bites even without charcoal filters so it fits people with sensitive mouths (for those who cannot eat any kinds of chili and black peppers at all). Smoke has a cigars taste with a slight chocolate aroma but I do not get tired of smoking it. Burns fast and leaves the smell of cigarettes if smoked indoors. If I smoke it in the evening then I get an unpleasant taste in my mouth the next morning.

A traditional Dutch Baai shag tobacco, flavored with tonquin. Comes on the dry side in an unsealed pouch. I find this aromatic a good buy for the price and the taste it delivers. The tonquin topping is manageable and there is no bite even when smoked fast. I like to smoke those Dutch style tobaccos in a clay pipe which I think delivers the best results.
