Boswell Pipes & Tobacco Spice and Nice

(2.80)
A good amount of black cavendish, and just a little sweet Virginia to make a sweet mild smoke. A very smooth but not weak, a very aromatic tobacco that is welcomed when smoking indoors.

I'd give this 3.5 stars if I could, but I reserve my 4 star review for blends that are truly steller. As damn near every Boswell blend I've had so far, this was an incredibly smooth and flavorful smoke that burn perfectly to a nice white ash. I can't speak highly enough of these Boswell blends, and of course you be enjoying them in a Boswell pipe for an optimal experience.

I will say I didn't notice lots of spice in this blend, but I'll agree with the "nice". It was very similar to my last experience with Boswell's Sweet Tea. I puffed away on this stuff and found no bite. Try it.

I find it to be very similar to some of the other Boswell blends. It has that familar nutty/vanilla sweet carmel rasin-like aroma in the pouch and tastes about the same. It is mild, but tasty and satisfying. I find it has more to it than Boswell's best and the Vanilla cream, but you can still taste the tobacco, it's one of those blends to smoke with the nose as well. I think I'm really liking it because of the colder weather upon us now...it kinda goes with the season as I can also note subtle holiday like spice aroma and flavor like the name says. The more I smoke it I notice the flavors kind of fading away. It seems to be tasting a bit more like chocolate, it's not bad but it was a much better blend to smoke fresh than it is now after sitting around a while. This one is very similar to Boswell's No Bite Delight. It it still a nice blend with no bite...not bad, but not something I think I will need to have around.

Surprisingly I found the bulk pouch nose not to be overly assertive for an aromatic. The pre-smoked essence is in fact rather peacefully sweet and gentile in temperament. Mainly fragranced by the big presence of Cavendish, this strain’s earthy wooded tartness is softly coiffured by a combination of enlivening kitchen spices, dark chocolate zeal, passive fruitiness, and some pacifying tang from what I presume to be the Virginian’s feeble affronting. Being smitten by just a degree of moisture, Spice & Nice performs better with a minor stint of extended drying time. Post haste, the tobaccos do pack and burn with handsome accord.

Let me first profess that the taste profile on this blending was kind of an interesting challenge to put my finger. Essentially the flavor is distinctly unique, all be it wonderfully tasteful. Yet by constitution, Spice & Nice is nonetheless somewhat elusive in succinct character it seemed. As such, I suspect that Boswell must have quite a bit going on within the realm of skillfully applied coatings as it is customarily matrixed Therefore, this Boswellian creation leans towards a defined experience that is moving and very colorful in kind for an aromatic mixture.

Clearly, I was able to register a consistent lively sweet and spicy arrangement with each drawl. As with many Boswell blends, this premiered “kitcheny” element holds reliable for the duration of the smoked bowl. In particular, the topmost combination focused on the contribution of woody nutmeg, diluted cinnamon, dark cocoa, and a chase of complementing brown sugar. There is an additive sugary tinge that comes on the trailing accent that is indicative of the corn syrup, bringing in a little subdued vanilla cream and molasses-like ambiences. Still further, final front-loaded nuancing is embodied by nice, salted buttery highlights that performed a thickening supplement to the aforementioned sweeter spice-laced projection.

With the middle band of flavor, the influence that came into the fold was a pondering headscratcher frankly. All I can say is that the formed impression is dominated by a notable although peculiar fruity combination. To me it tendered as reserved mix of dark honey, zesty pine, a golden delicious apple, and fresh blueberries; yeah, what the heck! I would love to learn of the actual recipe behind this novel feature. What is more, this curious characterization is slightly spirited like an elixir as well. At first, I was struggling with the notion of a tannic wine affluence but decided it was headier like a hard cider in persona; very refreshing and acidic accenting to say the least.

Being primarily coatings-dominant, Spice & Nice does come with, however, an obliging smoky undertone projected by the natural Cavendish properties. As this varietal comprises the bulk of the mixture’s substance its character generally rings through on the bottom note with a tad of earthy, dark sour wood and native spicing. As for the Virginia it functions as a very passive sweetening condiment offering some floral tart grass, general tang, and a weaker caramelized stream. The aftertaste on this one is actually quite pleasing and stimulating on the palate, there’s the “Nice” coming into fruition.

For the most part this blend is of decidedly lighter intensity. Nevertheless, the mixture endows a fairly dense body of smoke which naturally creates a weightier smooth texture. Although enjoyable, I will say that successive bowls proved to be a bit much as my palate became saturated with the monotony of the jazzy flavor which served to lessen the blend’s charming splendor. As an occasional treat, yeah, this one would be a well-received companion by many an enthusiast’s liking, no question. Not overly gaudy as to its sweetness but more so a gentle well-crafted lighter fare overall. Quite enthralling in effect.

Of the several pipes deployed, my Rob Roy cob facilitated the most optimum endeavor for appreciating Spice & Nice’s true personality. The resulting airy room note is a pleasantly sweet and lightly spiced woodsy aroma, I rather favored its novel attractiveness. No evidence of roughness nor bite was realized so another upward extended thumb scoring on this one. In sum, Spice & Nice presents itself as yet another fine JM Boswell originated aromatic offering by way of my humble assessment. As the saying goes, variety is the spice of life especially for the well-cultured pipe smoker. So, on that thought in mind do give it a try and see if you agree. 3.0 Pipes.

Bag note is super sweet spicy like clove nutmeg. Lots of dark cavendish in the bag ribbon cut. Oddly enough I found this tobacco a bit moist from the bag and let it dry for a while. The flavors are true as described this is a pure aromatic. Not much in the way of tobacco flavor but the sweet spicy flavor stays through the whole bowl. If you are an aromatic fan this is a good one. A bit on the sweet side, Not too much chemical taste but the sweet spice stays through the whole bowl. Nic hit is non existent. doesn't burn too hot. No bite. Could be an all day smoke.

Strong vanilla smell right off the bat and Cavendish right up-front, possibly Lane Limited variety as a base. Subtle cinnamon and nutmeg in the back, but very mild there. Incredibly smooth but a little boring. Not a "knock your socks off" spice at all. Perhaps a nod towards some spiced rum too; a hint of chestnut maybe. A little disappointing because I was expecting no vanilla and a lot more spicy flavors, but perfectly acceptable and tasty as an aromatic. No tobacco taste to note.

If you're looking for something more spicy, try Russ' Blend Snickerdoodle or Cinnamon Roll.
