McClelland Bayou Slice

(3.39)
Sophisticated small slices of the smoothest Louisiana perique aged in cakes to mellow with sweet, zesty matured Virginia. Rich and satisfying, with perique's uniquely mysterious and compelling aroma, enhanced by Blakeney's exclusive toasting process. "Choose Blakeney where toasting bans the bite for a smoke that's right"
Notes: McClelland introduced their Blakeney's Best line at the 21st CORPS (Conclave of Richmond Pipe Smokers) Pipe Show in Richmond, Virginia. The 50 grams tin was released to the public in late 2005.

Loving McC´s virginias and loving VaPers,I don´t like this flake. The reason maybe the Blakeney´s system that,in my suspiction, kills the spiciness from Perique and doesn´t get better the faboulous Mc Clelland virginias.I´ll remain with my splendid 2015 Virginia-Perique flake. It isn´t bad,but not for me.Simply a toasted VaPer.I don´t think that BB series wuld be the best product of the,at the other hand, glorious McC brand. All this IMVHO.

Ehrling's review nails it for me, so let me repeat it for you:

"I am not going to spend a lot of time on this review--it was a bit disappointing. Overall I found Bayou Slices just a little to bland to suit my tastes. The tin aroma was certainly promising, but that promise was not fulfilled in the flavor. There was sufficient body in the smoke, but I can't bring myself to describe this blend as especially "rich"--it falls short.

"I was able to finish the tin, but I just didn't get much enjoyment out of it. It probably deserves 2-stars, but nothing higher from me."

I will mention that Bayou Slice lacks the ketchup-like aroma that afflicts most McClelland tobaccos.

The only other comment I have is that McClelland's name appears no where on the Bayou Slice label. Instead, it's marketed under the brand name "Blakeney's Best." Why a company with an illustrious name like McClelland would start selling tobacco under a different name is a mystery to me.

This tin now has 9 months age and it still smokes hot and spicy. It starts out sweet, then sweet and sour , then just sour, then it goes flat. I won't buy again
