Cornell & Diehl Good Morning

(3.17)
A Craig Tarler/Bob Runowski blend perfect for getting your day started or any other time of day or night. Reminiscent of a classic Dunhill blend devoted to morning puffing.
Notes: Cornell and Diehl blended Good Morning for the Chicagoland Pipe Show years back.

Being a Latakia fan, I did not appreciate this mild Virginia blend. Orientals are present in homeopathic doses, Latakia is so far that I didn't detect it. It is ok for an undemanding smoke. 2,5/5 in my personal rating system.

Unlike the other C and D blends I have tried, this did not come bone dry: the tobacco was nice and springy to the touch. The tin aroma was muted. In the pipe it lit and burned well.

On its own it is a pleasant enough Oriental of no great distinction. The comparison to EMP stretches the imagination. I had a tin of Murray made EMP open and was able to compare the two mixtures. EMP had an opulent elegance coupled with manly but not brutish strength. In comparison Good Morning was insipid and weak. To enjoy this concoction one has to give up all thoughts of the Dunhill product, and consider GM on its own merits. It is not too bad.

Note: I prefer aromatics, so factor that into what you take from this review.

I got a 10 gram sample of this, just to try something different. The immediate thing I recall from having a couple of bowls of it, was there is a peppery/spicy hint to it. Warms your mouth like pepper or chili, but not overwhelmingly so. As far as non-aromatics go, it's not bad at all. It lacks the soapy or smokey BBQ sauce that some English blends have. Nicotine strength was enough for me to feel it, but not feel ill afterwards.

It's not one I would buy more of, as there are other blends I would much rather buy. I don't see why fans of English blends wouldn't appreciate it more than me however.

I noticed all of the 4stars for this and feel like odd man out. I just am not wild about this. Odd taste, burns hot and not one I would get again.

The real deal EMP is back on the market, just stick with that. this is probably only the second blend from C&D I do not enjoy.
