This is the first time I try a basic Perique tobacco, and I must say I am quite charmed even if it must be recognized that it has character (that's the goal!) At the opening of the bag, you can feel at full strength nostril Perique and Latakia: it is smoked, it smells good peat. In short, one likes or does not like the smell. For me it is already a quality omen Twisted Evil Personally, I like the rather dry tobacco. So I hastened to let it dry for a while. Not as a brown or Semois, but enough to not have nausea after 5 minutes. Some time later (I have not tested immediately after dried), so I tried it. Upon lighting, we feel peat. Where I regretted not having reread the review of Munch (subsequently confirmed by all the others), is at the strength of this tobacco. It is responsible nicotine the guy. Manurings first, I had trouble finishing the bowl. Fortunately, it's a small bowl that is smoked in 20/30 minutes! As this is not a very large bowl, I can not judge the length. I can just say that for the smoking time of my Church ', knows that tobacco let enjoy. He is very strong in flavor and relatively mild at the same time (this kind of paradox that makes me love English blends). I could easily adopt it as a daily tobacco, so my philosophy was not based on maximum tests of different tobaccos.

To summarize, I would say that tobacco is to test for any fan of English blends. That said, on condition of supporting the heavy load of nicotine that reaches the corner of squash and that hurts. Try with caution

A big let down, really. No where near what Nightcap was. "Was" being the operative word.

Overall rather bland and boring, not much depth nor anything which really made me pay attention. Maybe that was the general idea and for some folks, right up their alley. The olde Nightcap on the other hand forced my hand. Also, this dried my palate too much.

There are other blends from C&D which are more inspired than this one. This one certainly will not be in the rotation.

Appearance and tin Aroma: A typical Balkan, you can see and smell the different components. A little fig note from the Perique is noticable too.

Packing and Lighting: Since it is a C&D product, the broad ribbons are at perfect moisture, as usual. 2-3 lights max.

Initial Flavor: Nothing spectacular, your typical high quality Balkan

Mid-Bowl: Plenty of flavor, gets into the zone easily. Perique asserts itself a little more.

Bottom of Bowl: Builds up to a medium to full intensity. The end is too spicy for this piper (thanks to the Perique!). Ash is mottled grey and dry.

Overall: There was nothing to write home about with this blend. Just a solid Balkan with high quality components. I've been spoiled by the Pease offerrings of late, so I prefer to spend a couple of dollars more for it rather than buy this again. I suppose if your on a tight budget, this may be a go to blend. As for me, I'll go elsewhere...

The burley is deep, musty, and strong. The perique isn't very fruity. The latakia is very Smokey and not of the sweet variety displayed in Pirate Kake. This is one of the first tobaccos I tried. It sounded perfect to me, as I enjoy both latakia and burley. It is not what I expected and really packs a wallop in the nicotine department. There is no incense-like notes I expect from Balkan blends. This is distinctly earthy and savory and never lets up. In my opinion, this bares no resemblance in taste to English or Balkan blends- at least to what I have come to excpect. No, it is definitely not recommended. Smokey and farty, even more so than a cheap cigar.

I like this more than when I first sampled it, which was before C&D started to implement its ribbon cut on most everything. It also arrives overly moist, which is a change for the good, as the flavors are preserved and you can always dry it out.

It is not a Balkan in the strict sense, like Balkan Sasieni. It's in the ballpark, though.

I agree with JimInks description in general but I come to a nearly opposite conclusion. Atlas Balkan is edgy and mouthfilling, and full of flavor, with a punch and a slant away from Latakia toward the Burley and Perique and toward what tastes like Turkish.

They do not list Turkish as an ingredient=. Similar to Petersons Balkan Delight but with even less Latakia taste and more "false Turkish" taste, which is possibly the type of Latakia used.

It does have a slight tendancy to be bitter and sour at times, but this is not something that bothers me. Depends what you like.

Pouch appearance of medium and light brown ribbons, the majority of the two the lighter burley. Smoky dark Latakia dots the remainder of this blend.

Aroma of the strong, sour Perique is most forward, with a touch of smokiness from the Latakia. The burley offers a slight toast and nuttiness, but is mostly drowned out by sour Perique.

A few exceptionally long strings of tobacco, almost shag cu,t appears randomly throughout the pouch. Loads very well, with just a touch of springiness.

Initial lighting is effortless, as with most C&D blends. The fact they ship on the dry side, they light easier and you get more mileage out of your purchase! As much as the Perique shows in the pre-lit aroma, its actually fairly tame in the smoke. It's always been hit or miss with me and C&D burleys, but this one is amazing. Notes of peppery and slight sour notes from the Perique, toasted notes of burley and dry smokiness from the Latakia. The spiciness increases as you get further down the bowl. No sweetness anywhere to be found, but I'm content with that! Solid 3.5 stars!!

This one is apt for the "all day smoke" category, I think. Not that it's so wonderful that you will crave it all day, but more that it's a mid-strength blend with enough flavor and smoothness that it won't burn out your palate. It goes well with coffee after dinner. If you took a road trip and could only bring one mixture with you, this one offers enough depth and character to hit the spot several times a day.

It smokes well, doesn't get gross near the end of the bowl. It has very notable Latakia and Turkish content, with a slight sweetness that doesn't overpower. A touch of Perique lends it a nice zest. It does have a hint of papery-ness that never gets too obtrusive, but the moisture content will affect that, so it is best smoked when generally humidified, but not moist. It is also not bad when fairly dry, so it travels well.

I like it, but I won't call it a standout. It's a nice, agreeable smoke with no real downside. Absolutely worthy of cellar stock or just to keep handy. Simply put, it's basically good stuff for Balkan fans. I prefer it to many other Turkish-forward blends of similar notoriety.

The colors range from tan to dark chocolate brown with typical flake cut. The scent from the sample bag I received is mild and characteristic of air cured tobacco - really quite pleasant. It burns well and leaves the bowl with little residue. This is a smoking experience that builds as it progresses, starting out not unlike sliding into an old pair of Lucchese - at once accustomed to familiar ways. It builds, not to any particular climax but more like meeting an old friend you've not been around for awhile. The latakia is quite smooth with sweet flavor that reminds me of smoked nuts. Smooth and easy I find it to be a most pleasant smoke. As yet another chapter in the chronicles of English blends I would not be opposed to having it around. There is no heavy presence I can detect so I dunno about the allusion to Nightcap, but I can certainly see why it's been around for awhile. This blend will please a broad range of tastes without being unduly assertive. Maybe, with a little syrian leaf........ Meerschaum Man smoking an old CAO Bacchus

I don’t smoke this that often, but it’s a tasty robust smoke when the taste arises. The Latakia is Smokey and mellow, the Burley and Perique are supporting players.

For me it all comes together when the mood strikes me.
