Very light and clean pipe tobacco smoking experience. As a newer pipe smoker with much more cigar smoking experience, I really appreciate the simple tobacco flavor revealed in this blend.
Purchased in bulk form the tobacco was nicely textured and not too moist, clumping when squeezed but falling apart easily when released. Easy packing and lighting. Soft and mellow smoke at the start of the bowl developing more flavors, spice, and citrus 1/3 to mid bowl. Sweet, mildly nutty, and lightly grassy this was a very enjoyable smoke.

Has a slight sweet smell from the pouch. Bought this bulk and it came in a zip lock back. Wasn't too moist out of the bag but I still let it dry some prior to packing. The best part of the bowl for me was the first 1/3rd. Room note was pleasant but definitely not an aromatic. Taste was mellow and occasional sweet notes popping in and note. As I worked my way down things started tasting sour and despite smoking with a filter and sipping slowly I was getting some bite. I think there is something in this tobacco that doesn't agree with my tongue. Then again this isn't top shelf stuff so...... This was last year, I recently tried this again after it's aged some. Similar results. This could be a really good smoke but unfortunately this one isn't for me.

I first tried this a year ago and found it tasteless--not unpleasant, just couldn't find the taste. Jarred it up and forgot about it. Came back to it just now, and was quite impressed. Not sure what changed, but I found this subtle and comforting. Even though this has cavendish tobacco, it taste's closer to a Virginia than an aromatic, and no topping, per se, is detected at all. I smoked it, both a year ago and now, in the exact same pipe, so I have no explanation of my change in opinion. I doubt the "cellaring" was the difference, but who knows . . . Ignore room note rating, smoked outside.

This is something unusual nowadays - a basic, ordinary tobacco without any frills. No added flavorings, no complex blending - just straightforward smoking tobacco with a solid tobacco taste and smell. Burns okay, perhaps slightly hot, but no noticeable tongue bite. Seems to burn quite dry. Unfortunately the taste can be bitter, probably indicating the inexpensive plain tobacco.
So - nothing special to write about, except for the fact that this is quite a bargain offered at a very attractive price, as I suppose one should expect for what is a basic ordinary product.
For those looking for a solid, basic smoking tobacco, this one will probably fit the bill. Deserves a couple of stars for function and price. Recommended on the basis that it delivers a basic smoking experience with genuine 'old world' tobacco tastes and smells at a great price, although sometimes the taste can be slightly bitter.

I have been a pipe smoker since 2003. It has taken me quite a long time to understand and appreciate the love some have for plain burley. My previous experience with Burleys was just the OTCs, which I understand there are some that are quite good. I decided to try this Stokkebye blend because I have had good luck with several of their other blends. I really like this blend. It packs well. Lights and burns great, and I finally get the subtle nutty and consistent flavor. This is a good smoke whilst fishing, doing yard work, and I like smoking this when I am playing golf. A good no fuss blend, with a steady burley flavor.

A top notch smoke! I really enjoyed this sitting on the patio on a nice February, Houston morning. The Virginia and Burley mixed in nicely with the Cavendish to give a flavorful smoke from start to finish with no re-lights. This one definitely will have a spot in my rotation.

This dutch cavendish provides a interesting smoke. Overall I would say that nothing regularly stands out by itself and while it provides a bit of hay and woodsy taste from burley and virginia. Nothing about this blend really packs a punch or sets it apart from anything else. I have found that mixing this with some D&R Ryback Gold provides a bit more smokiness and stout flavor. While transferring a a bit of the sweetness from the cavendish to that blend much better. This won't set the world on fire, and likely doesn't move the bar as a stand alone blend. Mix it with a regular blend and you may find that this helps to bring a bit more flavor and change of pace. Give this a shot if you want a middle of the road blend that won't offend your taste buds or those around you!

I bought this in a hope to replace one of my favorites Sail Green. I have issues paying over $9.00 for an ounce and a half of tobacco. It would be nice if they sold it in tins again but that doesn't seem like it's going to happen.
Anyway back to the PS301 Natural Cavendish. The cut is very similar to sail but the topping is pretty much not there as this is a natural type tobacco
The Virginia's are good and the Burley is a light leaf. Some dry time may be needed as this came a little moist.
I am more than half way through the 2 oz sample I bought and will be ordering more.
If you were a sail or amphora smoker back in the day this could be for you.
If you're are looking for a nic bomb, keep moving. It's also not a blend loaded with all kinds of different flavors, just a simple vabur that is Cavendish processed.
This is just a pleasant natural smoke at a good price at around $3.00 an ounce.

Update 2/5/24 I am currently working through a pound of this and it's become my everyday smoke.
It's just a good natural tobacco.

I felt this tobacco is like an ordinary cigarette, but it has natural Cavendish flavor.Very easy to handle, completely no tongue bite.Maybe this is not the choice for your special day,but no bad for usual,all-day tobacco.

I'll keep this short. It tastes like a somewhat strong cigarette. I just can't tolerate this one. This is really the first Stokkebye product that has been disappointing for me. Gave the rest of the pound to a friend whom is trying to transition to pipes from cigarettes.
