My tin was a little moist on opening. Leaving it out overnight helped dry it out enough for me. Too sweet for my taste, it was good as a diversion from my regular English habit.

Well, likely the very best thing about this product is the tin. But, I'm not quite as negative on the blend as the others who have added their comments.

W.O.Larsen usually does a great job on aromatics, although they aren't my favorites. I've become a VA guy over time, with some VaPer thrown in for a change. On rare occasion, I'll dabble in one or two aromatics. Hence, the reason I got this one. Here's why I'll light this up occasionally - the room note. My wife and family like it, which isn't always the case. So, that's the deal. It's just too heavily cased, and while not a terrible blend, it's a 2, and there it will stay. Not terrible, but not great. But that tin is just beautiful. My wife wants it to store pins and the like. 🙂

This was the first W.Ø. Larsen's tobacco I've tried. I bought it impulsively, thinking that such a beautiful tin should really hold an "Ultimate Luxury in Pipe Tobacco", as the label states. After opening I found out that the baccy, although quite good, is not a luxury to be often indulged in; and tha the tin is useless to hold the leaf, as it isn't airtight. Not being that extraordinary, the mixture would rather deserve a regular pouch.

WØL 2009 is absolutely mild in what nicotine is concerned, but still holds a hint of tobacco taste, unlike other aromatics like Captain Black (white label). The casing is extremely dense ? imparting a very strong palate and aroma of acid and sweet raspberry jam. Although pleasant sometimes, it is so intense that I cannot bear to smoke twice in the same day without feeling rather disgusted.

As for the room note: my spouse says she likes it ? and yet prefers to move to another division while I'm piping it. Nevertheless, the truth is that she avoids almost every other mixture's room note as well?

To sum up: I recommend to keep it in a sealed jar, and smoke it only once a weekend. True to its name, it will thus last for the whole 2009.

--UPDATE -- After smoking aroun 20 pipefuls of this, I gave up. The slight appreciation I had has gone: WØL has overdone its casing; what a shame. I'd rather smoke putrid raspberry than try this again. What a shortcoming for such a good producer of aromatics.

I like to get into the holiday spirit with some of the limited edition tobaccos. I usually don't have high expectations, but am usually not disappointed. Not this time this stuff is just plain vile! (first impression).

I received the beautifully scrolled bronze colored un-sealed tin the other day. As I opened the tin a thick toxic aroma lofted into my nostrils almost making me nauseous! Inside the tin was a heat sealed plastic bag. As I opened the bag to transfer the contents into a jar, (erroneously thinking the toxic aroma was the plastic bag).

I noticed something white mixed with the tobacco inside the sealed bag. It was a sticky-back label! Thats right a mixed up mashed partially shredded LABEL still sticky INSIDE THE MIXTURE! This in itself is an unconscionable lapse in quality control. But still nothing to the toxic aroma of putrid stale, rotten fruitcake, left opened in a back cupboard for several seasons.

The tobacco is fairly dry (not at all sticky) and uniform in color and finely cut. It lit just fine (I was half expecting the fumes to ignite).

Okay I am revising my earlier single star. After sitting for a week or so in a jar and away from the plastic bag and tin, this stuff is tolarable. The aroma not nuarly so strong and toxic now kinda sweet and liquery. Burns better and has a not un- pleasant taste.

Still not my favorite, and I have never found trash in a tin before but if you like holiday aromatics you might want to give it a try. Just let it sit for awhile!
