I honestly don't know why I bother with this company. They make beautiful tins which are certainly worth collecting, but when it comes to the tobacco, they always fall far from the mark. This particular blend is no exception. The tin I have is actually two years old and has been aging for a while, so that should have helped it. The tobacco was reasonably dry when the package was opened, but upon smoking...well it was not really a pleasant experience. I really don't know what to compare this to. It's supposed to have a rum flavoring(though it's more akin to whiskey). At times it sort of attempts to head towards what Rattray did with "Bagpiper's Dream", but really just doesn't hit it. The tobacco is so nasty that the best description I can come up with is skunk or garbage weed. If you want a nice aromatic, look somewhere else. The tin is one of the best however, so if nothing else, I guess that is worth having. I wish I could recommend another company here. I would steer you there. Look under "B" and "U" here on this website. There are two there that make some incredible aromatics if that is what you are looking for.

The only tobacco ever that I threw away. Nope, I did not even want to store this stuff in my tobacco cellar for fear of contaminating some of my goodies. The "sweet notes of dark rum and wild berries" turned out to be nothing but a strong dose of rose perfume intermingled with stale sweat. The taste (don't ask) and smell were reminiscent of an unclean woman trying to mask body odour. What a disappointment from the people who make the renowned Larsen's Signature Vintage Mixture.

My tin was a little moist on opening. Leaving it out overnight helped dry it out enough for me. Too sweet for my taste, it was good as a diversion from my regular English habit.

Well, likely the very best thing about this product is the tin. But, I'm not quite as negative on the blend as the others who have added their comments.
W.O.Larsen usually does a great job on aromatics, although they aren't my favorites. I've become a VA guy over time, with some VaPer thrown in for a change. On rare occasion, I'll dabble in one or two aromatics. Hence, the reason I got this one. Here's why I'll light this up occasionally - the room note. My wife and family like it, which isn't always the case. So, that's the deal. It's just too heavily cased, and while not a terrible blend, it's a 2, and there it will stay. Not terrible, but not great. But that tin is just beautiful. My wife wants it to store pins and the like. 🙂

I like this tobacco. I purchased from a local B&M and after having smoked several bowls I would say that it was worth my time. The price at the local shop was absurd, but that is the cost of having a local shop at my disposal versus online.
I would say that one of the most admirable traits of this tobacco for me is the lingering flavor. There is a citrus note going on here that reminds me of good fresh roasted Kenyan coffee.
There are better tobacco's out there, particularly for more experienced smokers, but for a less experienced smoker such as myself I find this on to be agreeable to my palate. Smokes fairly cool, and not much tongue bite.

Although this is not an everyday blend for me, I find it to be quite pleasant and smooth burning. It definitely has a liquor taste to it, somewhat tangy. To me, it is reminiscent of a whiskey sour. The flavoring can cause it to burn hot, necessitating frequent swabbing with pipe cleaners. Have to be careful here. The room note is pleasing and passes the "wife test".

This was the first W.Ø. Larsen's tobacco I've tried. I bought it impulsively, thinking that such a beautiful tin should really hold an "Ultimate Luxury in Pipe Tobacco", as the label states. After opening I found out that the baccy, although quite good, is not a luxury to be often indulged in; and tha the tin is useless to hold the leaf, as it isn't airtight. Not being that extraordinary, the mixture would rather deserve a regular pouch.
WØL 2009 is absolutely mild in what nicotine is concerned, but still holds a hint of tobacco taste, unlike other aromatics like Captain Black (white label). The casing is extremely dense ? imparting a very strong palate and aroma of acid and sweet raspberry jam. Although pleasant sometimes, it is so intense that I cannot bear to smoke twice in the same day without feeling rather disgusted.
As for the room note: my spouse says she likes it ? and yet prefers to move to another division while I'm piping it. Nevertheless, the truth is that she avoids almost every other mixture's room note as well?
To sum up: I recommend to keep it in a sealed jar, and smoke it only once a weekend. True to its name, it will thus last for the whole 2009.
--UPDATE -- After smoking aroun 20 pipefuls of this, I gave up. The slight appreciation I had has gone: WØL has overdone its casing; what a shame. I'd rather smoke putrid raspberry than try this again. What a shortcoming for such a good producer of aromatics.

Having been given several holiday tobaccos by well-meaning, non-smoking friends, this one likely garnered attention because of the attractive container. I just got around to opening Limited Edition 2009 this past week and there's certainly nothing spectacular about this blend. In fact, I rate it lower than most aromatics. I'd advise avoiding it altogether...there are many, many better aromatic choices available.
As so aptly noted by Moçambicano, this 100g will likely last the entire year...then probably end up being discarded. I'm not sure I can manage many bowls of this mediocre WØL offering.
Pass on Limited Edition 2009.

Good aromatic Baccy, another masterpiece of W.O. Larsen! Not for English lovers, the opposite of GL Pease Westminster. 🙂

I agree with Gordy.
I am really disapointed with this tobacco. I really expect more from WO Larsen
