Seattle Pipe Club Mississippi River

(3.21)
Mississippi River ~ actually appeared to Master Blender Joe Lankford in a dream. Awakened from a sound sleep he grabbed a pencil and scribbled a recipe before the memory faded. The next morning he used those notes to create a Virginia blend like no other. Mississippi River was born. The rest is history in a tin. Enjoy the rich Virginias pressed in cakes with Oriental leaf, a pinch of Latakia and perique. Exceedingly popular with good reason. Crafting the most sought after small batch blends in America since 2007.
Notes: Smooth, creamy, rich, lightly smoky and appropriately sweet, with hints of dried fruits and a touch of dark chocolate.

The Virginia hit strongly at the first puff, and remained dominant to the end. Light, grassy, tangy, mildly citrus and acidic, it is definitely the centerpiece of this blend. It was complimented nicely by the figgy spiciness of the Perique, with woodier Oriental providing a solid baseline, and the faintest whiff of Latakia at the back end.

This is undoubtedly a Virginia blend, and with the faintness of the Latakia and Oriental, I'm honestly surprised it's classified as an English. It tastes a lot more like a VaPer with an Oriental/Latakia garnish. That said, it smoked smoothly, with little to no bite, and with fewer than average relights required. A delightful diversion from my more usual Latakia-forward English blends. Recommended.

This blend is really good, easy to keep lit, easy to crumble, just an all-round good blend. I love crumble cakes and this one is beautiful. The Latakia and orientals are well balanced, with the Virginias and perique rounding out the background. A little on the full side, but not overwhelming.
