Seattle Pipe Club Mississippi River

(3.21)
Mississippi River ~ actually appeared to Master Blender Joe Lankford in a dream. Awakened from a sound sleep he grabbed a pencil and scribbled a recipe before the memory faded. The next morning he used those notes to create a Virginia blend like no other. Mississippi River was born. The rest is history in a tin. Enjoy the rich Virginias pressed in cakes with Oriental leaf, a pinch of Latakia and perique. Exceedingly popular with good reason. Crafting the most sought after small batch blends in America since 2007.
Notes: Smooth, creamy, rich, lightly smoky and appropriately sweet, with hints of dried fruits and a touch of dark chocolate.

This blend is really good, easy to keep lit, easy to crumble, just an all-round good blend. I love crumble cakes and this one is beautiful. The Latakia and orientals are well balanced, with the Virginias and perique rounding out the background. A little on the full side, but not overwhelming.

Sweet and satisfying. Like the sweetness of a cardamom bun paired with the smokiness of lapsang souchong tea and the richness of dark bread. Yet the smoke appears light and casual, perfect for a sunny spring morning on the front steps before the slumber has fully left your body.

My only negative impression is that it burns hot, so I have to watch out so my bowl doesn’t char. Perhaps it would have been different with another pipe. Otherwise four out of four from me. Wish I could get hold of this stuff in my country, I am just rationing a sample from a swap I did with an American.
