Sniffing the freshly opened tin reminded me of a sweaty horse blanket. After lighting up, similarities of Penzance came to mind. For reasons unknown, the tobaccos never seemed to meld into a sweet flavor I was expecting. The Latakia is always in the forefront and pretty much dominated the tastes in this blend.

This smoked very smooth & mild with good burning properties when properly dried. The cake crumbles easily and stays moist for a long time. If not dried out pretty good, it will burn slow, produce little smoke & will be hard to keep lit. I thought it became rather one dimensional and too bland after a few draws and remained the same throughout the entire bowl.

Not a great deal of flavor ever developed for me & nothing truly sensational ever surfaced. It does have some good smoking qualities & flavor but this wasn't a bell ringer for me. However, with its mild smoking charactertics & English atmosphere, I can understand how many would find this exceptional. I'll rate this about 2.7 stars. Sampled in a size two Dunhill.

I don't know if it was just my tin but it needed to be dried quite a bit or else it was harsh and bitey. Dried it slowly in a tight but not airtight container for a day and it rounded out nicely.

If you didn't enjoy it out of the tin, give this a try.

This crumble cake is very Latakia heavy I would almost say overpowering and I can get a little of the natural sweetness from the Virginia and seems to burn a little wet I have to say I am enjoying it though Tim says it’s flavorful and tasty

As with all other Latakia forward blends, the Latakia is about all I taste. I do get some sour, sweet, dark fruit flavor, but I have to search for it. I do enjoy a Latakia from time to time, and this is a very good one.

Plum Pudding seems to be most flavorful immediately upon opening. The sweet, smokey notes are, to me, most pronounced when the blend has not yet had a chance to be subdued by contact with outside air. The only downside to packing a newly opened tin is moisture. The cut of this blend seemed reluctant to accept a flame without some drying time and rubbing. And although dissipation of moisture provided for a less frustrating experience, I am of the opinion that some intensity of flavor was sacrificed in the process. Nevertheless, Plum Pudding delivers a rewarding smoke for anyone seeking the unique flavor of Cyprian Latakia when combined with quality sun-cured Oriental leaf and a condimental portion of Perique.

This is not a blend I would consider to be a "Lat Bomb". Rather, Plum Pudding is well-balanced and just complex enough to satisfy discerning tastes. No single component of this blend oversteps its role at the expense of the other elements. I consider this blend suitable for any time if day, as its flavor will neither fatigue a smoker's palate, nor bite one's tongue. Plum Pudding smokes cool and delivers a nic-hit of negligible strength.

This blend is a worthwhile purchase, a likely repurchase, and worthy of its acclaim.

Is this a Balkan? I guess so.

The Latakia and black cavendish form a cohesive creamy foundation to this crumble cake. The cedar-like smokiness is the leading flavor followed by the spicy/sour oriental tobacco. The perique provides a slight fermented cigar undertone. Overall, Plum Pudding is a mellow Balkan blend. I see why people like it. I would give it four star if it did not tend to scorch my tongue.

The cyprian latakia and perique give most of the flavor. Not quite enough latakia to call it a bomb but it has some bomb properties due to the dominance of the latakia Starts off nice and sweet and slowly develops into a nice bbq esque English. Strong herbal and floral notes (mostly a rosemary) throughout the smoke. This is what I taste, at least. A very nice smoke to retrohale

Give it time to dry it you are going to be relighting a lot. I have not had the special reserve yet, (most pipers I follow prefer the special reserve) but i am happy with this one. Not the greatest Balkan in the world but worth a try. Tin art is 10/10
