4noggins Three Blind Moose

(3.47)
A blend of burley and dark, light & black cavendish tobaccos that, when combined, make a delightful aromatic with a hint of butterscotch in the background. Three Blind Moose could easily be an all day blend enjoyed in public while fending off comments from strangers, such as "What a lovely tobacco that is young man. What is it called?"

The burley is toasty, nutty, woody with a little molasses and earth and is always noticeable, though it’s not a dominating component. The light and dark cavendishes offer a hint of grass, light tart and tangy citrus and a drop of honey, and also have a toasty quality. The black cavendish has a little brown sugar in a support role. The rich caramel topping sublimates the tobaccos a bit as some butterscotch lurks in the background. The strength of the toppings are just a little closer to medium than they are to mild. The strength is a couple of steps past the center of mild to medium. The taste almost reaches the medium mark. The nic-hit is a shade more than mild. Won’t bite or get harsh. It's a little moist out of the pouch, but I saw no reason to dry it. Well blended, it burns very cool, clean, creamy, and very smooth with a very consistent flavor that holds to the finish. Requires a few relights, and leaves little dampness in the bowl. Has a pleasant, lightly lingering after taste and room note. An all day smoke.

Like many new pipe smokers I started with aromatics and TBM was one of my favorites. As time passed, and English blends and Vapers became the norm, I somehow forgot about TBM. I happened to come upon a small stash of this blend just as the chill returned to the New England air and I was reminded again of 4 Noggins great way with aromatics. TBM, like other 4 Noggin's aro's is mildly cased and compliments the tobacco without dominating it. The butterscotch is not sticky, but could use a little dry time. The smoke is nicely sweet but not overpowering. I seldom care about the room note, but this one leaves the house smelling like a cozy fall evening by the fireplace. Great Stuff!

The fact that I'm here writing this says a lot. I got this as a sampler included with my order from 4noggins several months ago and never tried it until this week, I wish I had tried it much sooner! This pairs so well with my morning espresso / coffee that it is becoming my choice for a morning smoke.

Possibly useful note: I kept this in its plastic bag for about 8 months without opening it once and it has stayed nicely moist and burns perfectly.

Another great aromatic from Rich at 4Noggins. Honestly I've not had a tobacco from 4N that I wouldn't give at least 3 stars. Their blends are fantastically well done, moisture content just about right, and any toppings judiciously applied. Anyhow, TBM didn't disappoint. Savory caramel with a hint of butterscotch. As others have mentioned, you do get some toasty nuttiness in there as well. It's reminiscent of Trout Stream, though heavier on the caramel and much lighter on the butterscotch. I love both flavors, and thus both blends, and each has become a mainstay in my aromatic rotation. It can get a little bitey if worked pretty hard, but that's nothing surprising in a cavendish blend. Slow your roll a little, don't over-puff looking for tobacco flavors, and try it in a cob if you are so inclined. I found the flavors and smokability much enhanced by doing so. Thanks to 4Noggins for another winner!

Received as a free sample from 4N, so I had to try it right away. It’s delicious in the pouch and in the pipe, though the caramel in the pouch aroma is a little stronger than in the bowl or in the room note. Speaking of which, the room note is very pleasant. Some have noted that the tobacco needed drying time, but mine lit right up and burned to the bottom. I did not experience any bite. The smoke is thick and rich.

The flavor seems sometimes like caramel and sometimes more like butterscotch. I don’t smoke a lot of aromatics, but when I do I tend to like a high-quality black cav with cherry, chocolate or vanilla. Or any good tobacco with chocolate, actually. But this one is really good. Though not an aromatic guy, particularly, I have smoked dozens of good ones, and TBM is as good as any and better than most. I have tried a number of other caramels, with indifferent success. One of them, from Lane or Altadis (employees at the local B&M differ on the supplier), which the B&M labels as “Caramello,” is harsh, hot and bites like a junkyard dog. I note that Altadis/Consolidated has a brand named “Caramello,” and that B&M swears it uses the supplier’s name for their tobaccos instead of making up their own. So Altadis it must be. Such a nasty blend cannot be mentioned in the same breath with TBM, which except for also being a caramel is the polar opposite.

If you like an occasional aromatic and have no caramel prejudice, you’ve got to try TBM. It will be berry, berry good to you, I promise. Really delectable in a cob, by the way.

4noggins - Three Blind Moose.

O.K., I first bought this awhile back for one reason, and one reason only: the name! It just cracked me up, so even if I hated the smoke it deserved full marks based on the name!

So, Three Blind Moose is made up of mid-size ribbons, and the moisture is neither too wet or dry. The blend smells mouth-watering, so it didn't take me long to fill my first bowl.

The smoke? I'd go so far as calling this a perfect aromatic. The butterscotch is added at just the right magnitude to give sweetness but no sticky, or cloying traits. I get a nice taste of vanilla from the black Cavendish without the topping completely monopolizing the smoke. The Burley gives a slightly rustic flavour, which sort of roughens the smoke round the edges. The burn from T.B.M. is great: slow and cool, and it doesn't bite me at all.

The room-note's very pleasant and the nicotine's a bit below medium.

Three Blind Moose? Eight stars: the name gets four as does the smoke!

Highly recommended.

I received this as a sample from Rich at 4Noggins... WOW... I had ordered some Storm Front.. Dark Horse... Bald Headed Teacher... and when I opened the box... I could smell something both sweet and captivating while not having an overpowering aroma. I quickly found my little pouch of 3 Blind Moose and stoved by GBD with it and immediately went out on the front porch with a nice cup of creamed coffee. WOW.... after a wonderful half hour of caramel enjoyment mixed with natural tobacco flavors... I came back inside and ordered a half pound of this blend... which is now turning into a full pound. As I have stated in other reviews.. I am not an Aro expert nor do I enjoy a lot of aro blends... but 3 Blind Moose is a home run out of the park with bases loaded. This IS my favorite Aro blend of them all. Well rounded.. nice smooth flavor that never bites, does not goop up... and still allows the wonderful tobacco blends to shine thru. This can easily be an all day blend... or leave it as something to look forward to after the days work is over and it is time to relax and put a happy smile on your face. Four Stars Across The Board. Happy Smoking Cheers Mike

I am new to pipe smoking and have discovered that I really enjoy aromatics, which is interesting since my favorite cigar is Diesel. I have only just begun my journey and I chose this blend after reading other reviews on this site and I could not agree more with the reviewers, absolutely wonderful stuff!

First thought on opening the bag was to grab a bowl of ice cream and sprinkle some on top, a very delectable, sweet, bakery-like aroma tickled my senses.

My nose never left the bag until I had my pipe lit. Smooth smoking, no bite, no sting, no buzz, just creamy beautiful smoke. I am already planning my next order from Rich!

Three Blind Moose has a delightful tin note. A really strong Carmel note. Upon lighting the tobacco butterscotch and carmel are present. A nice blend to start your day (pairs really well with coffee). I like to mix in some 5 brothers to give it some strength.

I ordered 2 oz. of this with my last 4noggins order. I quickly became disappointed that I only ordered 2 oz. This blend is a great all day smoke. The butterscotch flavor is very much an element of the flavor as oposed to being totally in your face. I like that the blend is not heavily cased with flavoring. It has very consistant flavor all the way down the bowl without tasting ashy or chemically. This blend was obviously made with high quality leaf.
