My tin is dated 4/8/2021
The tin note reminds me of the dried strawberries in those special K Kellogg's breakfast cereals. The topping, whatever it is, persists, and my tin has been open for over a month. The blend is moist and the moisture is persistent as well. The cut is beautiful and rustic like most C&D broken flakes.
The topping is immediately apparent in the smoke. The flavor of the tobacco is there, and it's a mixture of dried fruit, leather, nuttiness, and touches of smoke. To me the topping supersedes everything else and it's consistent throughout the bowl. The sensations are mostly sweet and sour and there is a bit of savoryness that peaks in every so often. I get mostly an overload of the tip of the tongue sweet and sour to the point of anesthetizing my taste. I found more complexity when retrohaling.
This blend doesn't smoke the best, probably because of that moisture. For many of the initial smokes it burned hot, and irritated my tongue. I let it sit in the tin so it could dry out some, and that improved the combustion and this was more enjoyable after the waiting. I could not get overlook the topping though. It annoyed the heck out of me, and seemed to dumb down the complexity that I would expect from a blend like this.
The strength is medium, sometimes mild to the point that it was smooth. It does produce lots of smoke though. The taste was mild to medium, and I expected more complexity and layers of flavors and nuance. I just didn't get it. That can be a good thing for some people though. The nicotine was there. I would say medium.
I would recommend this to Virginia lovers, if you don't mind the topping. The topping and the experience just didn't do it for me. Two stars.

Other reviewers say ER is not an aromatic. I bow to my betters - BUT - what is that odor???? I really think my sample is a little too moist and, therefore, somewhat difficult to rub out.

The first several draws did not fail the tin note. A sweet liquor-like flavoring. But … they don’t use Rum. No flavoring. Still, I can’t believe it. Does this distinctive note come from Perique or Burley? Or both? Whatever, if I follow my inborn sense, this is too much before breakfast, and it gives a bit of a sharp punch on my stomach along with the tangy, pungent taste. I don’t feel any coarseness, however. After the mid-bowl,VA comes in the foreground and what seems to be flashy odor lingers in the background, most leaving through the backdoor. I do not call it inconsistent. In other words, if likened to the world of colors, it’s like undefinable flamboyant colors are coming together to become one familiar color before it is fading out. Again and again, I check the tobacco description of this, which says “flavoring; None”...?

I really wanted to wake up to the cock-a-doodle-doo of the rooster but that's probably not going to happen. This is a high quality mixture without a doubt so it gets a full three stars. I just can't smoke something that smells and tastes like a Cadbury rum and butter chocolate bar(IMO). When I smoke a virginia/perique mixture I want to taste only the natural tobacco flavors that are produced with that combination. If you like Virginia/perique mixes to have added flavors atop it's natural base then you would be hard pressed to find better then this and I would never hesitate to recommend Mr. Tarler's skillful products.

A slow somewhat spicy smoke. The burley is definitely present and is a little bitey on the tongue and in combination with the Perique makes this disimiliar from your typical va/bur/per. The Virginia is there but take a back seat role, just providing a bit of sweetness. For my tastes, this isnt well balanced with the burley perique very forward. I'm going against popular consensus with this one and saying it's only ok and will not be reordered.
This review was done after opening, having a few pipes and then letting the tobacco rest for a year to mellow and re-trying. It mellowed a little but not much.

This was hard for me. I was stuck between 2 or 3 stars, but I am rating it by its lack of Burley vs the Virginia. This is much more a VaPe blend vs the usually classic awesome Burley blends C&D is known for. If I was rating this off a Virginia blend, I probably would have given it 3 stars. It definetly leads with the sweet grassy notes of the Virginia. The Burley lends just enough to give it more taste than a typical VaPe. I love strong Burley blends, and this just did not deliver. The tobacco is quality, packs and smokes well, no tongue bite for me. The nicotine level is nice. If you are looking for a Burley led blend, move on. If you enjoy a VaPe with a bit more kick, you can try this.

Not bad. Not great either. Just OK. Very moist so you have puff slow to manage the bite. Tin note is nice. Has some type of alcohol casing. Virginians are sweet. Not enough perique and too much burley. Leaves a cigarette aftertaste in your mouth. I'll let it dry out a bit before I take another stab at it.

I'm kind of caught in the middle with this tobacco. I opened my 50 gram tin about a month ago. I enjoy the tin note of rasin like others have said kind of like a fruitcake. I also like the taste and smell of the bacco but it likes to slightly sting my tongue. Its not a harsh bite and its not so bad that I have to put the pipe down but it is noticable. This is my first experience with perique and I'm sure that's what is stinging me. Iv had the tin opened for a month and still have to dry the rubbed leaves for about 15 minutes. It seems like the rooster needs to be packed more loosely than others and needs a few relights but once it gets going it is not a bad smoke. I would like to try another blend with perique to see how it compares to exhausted rooster. I think I will put the other half of this tin up for around christmas time and see if my tastes have changed.

I seem to be with the minority here but I did not care for this blend. I found the flavoring to be cloying with this one. I am looking for a more natural taste from my va/pers. I get about three good puffs per bowl where I think the tobacco outshines the flavoring but that's it. I would however recommend this to an aromatc / mild aromatic smoker that may not be put off by the flavoring. But not for me.

Im in a quest of good Virginia/Burley/Perique blend. Tried this blend. This is an ok blend to smoke just to break the routine of your go to smoke. This blend will deliver its potency when smoke on the dry side. First half of the bowl will be smooth and a bit of that perique sting. but the last half is when all that punch will sneak up on you. Dont make a mistake like me smoking this on a XL upshall. recommended to be smoked in a small to medium bowl.
