Mac Baren Honey & Chocolate

(2.68)
A fine loose cut blend made of a very special kind of cavendish. The long and delicate cavendish process makes this blend soft and smooth with a taste of honey and chocolate.
Notes: Discontinued 2014.

I only bought this because my local shop was very low on tins and this was the only thing in I hadn't tried yet. I was very surprised. Definitely a dark chocolate taste as it is not sweet, but I enjoyed it. Gave me a good dose of Vitamin N, not over powering but a good idea to smoke it slow to avoid the hiccups. While not my favorite I would buy again.

I am not an expert by a long shot but my tastes have setteled more toward non aromatics mostly vapers, so I was quite suprized to find that a honey and chocolate blend did not end up in the back of the pile with the rest of the aromatics I did'nt like, waiting for the day my tastes might change. This one to me tastes like good tobacco with a little coco added. I like that the chocolate is bitter and I don't notice the honey, smells like something to eat in the tin but is easy to lite and burns well with no goop in my pipe, who knows I might go back and give some of the others another try.

One of the earlier reviewers was spot on in his description of the taste and room note - it's like a fudge brownie. This is a wonderful blend and I recommend it to smokers who like aros.

Chocolate and tobacco--two most beloved delights. But do they harmonize well? Surely enough, they do. Is this an aromatic? Of course! But the folks at Mac Baren go beyond the aromatic nomenclature with this blend to produce a wonderfully satisfying taste experience not to be had with the usual and numerous aro class tobaccos. On the contrary, the tobacco itself, a quality cavendish, stands on it's own as a fine smoke. Now for the "chocolate." Here is the Mac Baren seal of quality and blending genius. Dark and rich in taste, the chocolate flavor is natural and homogeneous to the cavendish, as opposed to the usual sweet afterthought. The tin aroma is absolutely delightful, and a chocolate lover's heaven. Light it, and the transition from smell to taste is one very exquisite moment. The "Honey" aspect is mere in presence, smoothing out the velvety sensory delight. Surely recommended.

I was pleasantly surprised by this new cased tobacco.

The tobaccos are partially broken flakes, very dark. Probably an all double fermented VAs, also known as Black cavendish, mixture.

Smells like semisweet dark chocolate with honey in the background.

Tastes like 85% dark chocolate, so not very sweet.

There is some strength of character to it as well, which makes it a fine balance within cased tobaccos.

The best cased tobacco I have tried and my favorite so far. I smoke it regularly.

As an avid English/Latakia/Oriental smoker, I thought I was firmly rooted in the "friends don't let friends smoke aromatics" camp.

I've been smoking some of the naturally sweet Mac Baren blends (Dark Twist Roll Cake, Mixture Flake, Navy Flake), and had smoked one of those in a pipe that I'd smoked aros in back in the day. The ghosted sweetness of the old aromatics I'd smoked whetted my appetite for aromatics, and since I was having good luck with Mac B blends, I decided to give this and "Vanilla Creme Loose Cut" both a try.

There are several qualities of the tobacco in the tin that struck me: 1) the aroma of chocolate and honey is very full and rich, but not artificial. This tobacco really does smell like they've sprinkled high-quality dark chocolate powder on it; 2) unlike most of the aros I remember from my early years, this tobacco doesn't feel sticky or greasy. If you pinch the tobacco between your fingers, it doesn't stick together, it stays loose.

It packs very easily, and takes to the flame well. After the first char light and the second full burn, the tobacco burns evenly and stays lit. The rich flavors of chocolate and honey are very evident, but somehow not cloying. Remember, I've been smoking strong Latakia blends like "Krumble Kake" and "Artisan Blend", so my palatte is accustomed to strong, spicy tobacco! I disagree with some reviews that claim that the flavors burn off quickly. It seems to me the flavors become a bit more subtle, but the sweetness remains and lingers.

I no longer consider myself a non-aro snob, and if you're looking for a high quality aro that delivers sweetness without the sticky, gooey mess in the bottom of the bowl, this might be worth your consideration.

A nice smooth smoking tobacco. The tin aroma is great ,the nice smell of dark chocolate.Upon smoking my 2 year aged tin there is a light smell of cocoa,no overpowering aroma's.Burns, smokes, and tastes well. Can become harsh if smoked to fast, but it's worth a try.

i love chocolate so i had high expectations for this tobacco. when i opened the tin a noticed that it was a little dry but i didnt care because the aroma of bittersweet chocolate made me forget this was even tobacco to begin with lol! this burned fast and hot but i did indeed taste the chocolate but not the honey. however i did some experimenting and mixed it with some VA and i got a really nice smoke. the contrast of both burning characteristics made a balancing blend which i was satisfied with.

This blend represents truth in advertising: It's called Honey and Chocolate and those are certainly the flavors you get. I've tried about half a dozen chocolate flavored tobaccos and this is among my favorite. The sweetness is strong, yet not overpowering. While it burns a little hot like most aromatics, it did not cause me any tongue bite. Best of all, I didn't get any stickiness or taste left in my pipe. No need to use your cheap pipe for this one, it won't ruin your briar for future blends.

Best of all, the wife loves the smell of it.
