Low Country Pipe & Cigar Santee

(3.07)
The Santee River has been central to South Carolina history since early colonial times. Particularly suited to rice cultivation, the swamps of the Santee River soon gave rise to stately manors. This sophisticated Virginia based aromatic captures the languid lifestyle that was synonymous with the region. Subtly fruity, with hints of apple, this would be the perfect accompaniment to a mint julep on a sultry summer night.

I've been a confirmed English/Balkan smoker for over 40 years now and have added straight Virginias to my palate in the past decade. I have always gotten negative response to my English/balkan blends so have wanted to add a more group acceptable aroma blend which has a true tobacco taste and smoking properties similar to my English/balkan blends. I think I have found it with this blend made for smokingpipes.com's B&M store under the brand Low Country. It is wrongly labeled a Flake but is really more of a loose shag comprised of mostly bright Virginias and a good amount of what I percieve to be darker Virginias as well. It loads and packs well and needs just a char light and one relight to get it going. It has a very nice apple/spice scent along with the fine aroma of the Virginias in the tin. I've found that it's moisture content is perfect to just fill your pipe straight from the tin with no need to "dry" out. This apple aroma translates to a nice background taste along with the natural sweetness of the Virginias all the way thru the bowl. It also does the DGTs well with the aroma and light flavor still there when re-lit. This is not a strong, in your face sort of tobacco, rather something which is consistantly flavored and smokes nicely thru the whole bowl. It burns completly thru with a nice grey ash and NO wet goopy dottle at the bottom when it's finished. For an all tobacco tasting "aromatic" this has become my go-to blend and I will be ordering much more of it.

I was not impressed when I first tried this blend. I put the tin away and a month later picked it back up. I'm not sure if a month did the trick or I was having a bad day when I tried the first time. I now appreciate this blend. The freshness of the apple flavouring is a delight and makes the blend bright and lively. The virginias are creamy and round. I've been smoking this on the way to work in the morning and it is really growing on me. Finally an apple blend that is spot on!

This was my first experience with Low Country. I really enjoyed this tobacco. It had a nice very mild apple flavor that allowed the tobacco flavor to come through. I don't usually smoke aromatics but picked this up looking for a more socially "acceptable" smoke. I kept getting compliments on the room note from the non-smokers in the room. This tobacco has found it's way into my rotation for some time to come.

This is a good smoke that burns to a nice white ash. This mainly has the flavor of a nice sweet virgina. No tounge bite if you know how to smoke a virgina properly. This was my first try from this company and I found it to be high quality tobacco.

don't smoke a lot of aromatics these days but this is a keeper. my tin is from April of this year. tin note is sweet with a faint apple scent. like a granny smith sour. the Virgina has that sweet grassy and honey smell. burns very well with the apple upfront at the start. as you puff the apple gets pushed back and the sweet Virgina comes froward. the cavendish smooths it all out and may be the source of some sweetness. I do get a little honey taste which i like.as with a lot of aromatics gets a little harsh and burnt at the bottom. need to slow down and sip. I really like this one. A hearty satisfying smoke for times of reflection.
