Larson’s 1864 is my favorite aromatic thus far. It smokes dry, has a very pleasant side-stream and a sweetish flavor that highlights the sweetness and richness the leaf without overpowering it. I find that most aromatics smoke hot and this one will burn you if you puff too aggressively. Puff slowly then puff quickly and you'll notice the flavor and temperature of the smoke change from bland and ashy to hot and full of bite. Most importantly you find that rather broad range in between that will fill your mouth with comforting warm smoke and rich sweetish tobacco taste. It pairs well with bourbon, coffee, or cool water. 1864 is an all around great aromatic.

I've smoked a couple of bowls of this tobacco now and it was love at first smoke. The tin is beautiful and simple. It was a bit moist, so I had to let it dry for a day. The tin smells very nice. Chocolate, cream, nuts and something fresh, description says orange but I don't know about that. It smokes good, a little hot and bites a little but no more than normal for an aromatic. It's almost difficult to slow down because it tastes so good. The taste is about the same as the smell, a little spicy, wich is very pleasant. Flavors are constantly present, but without overpowering the natural taste of the tobacco. Room note is really nice. One of my favourite aromatics. Great after diner smoke, very nice with a glass of whisky, or a cup of coffee. I highly recommend this tobacco to aromatic smokers.

This mixture has a very delicate taste. Although Orlik's description lists orange, chocolate and whiskey among its flavors, the taste is too illusive for me to detect any of that. Maybe it's the combination of those things that make it difficult to readily discern any one of them. It is extremely mild and has a wonderful room note. IMHO, W.O. Larsen named it well - it is as close to perfect as I've found.

I'm with fellow reviewer JoPo... well, almost. This is one of the finest aromatic tobaccos that I have ever smoked but maybe not the finest. I received a true tobacco hit to the palate by the Burley and Virginia leaf, and the Black Cavendish delivered a beehive full of all kinds of flavors that jelled into what tasted, to me anyway, like freshly baked German Chocolate cake. Can't beat this one as your after dinner smoke. Lots of tobacco flavor, lots of dessert like taste and no calories. What a deal!

I really tried to like this particular blend but I am yet to feel the bliss. Definitely a case of tin aroma being way better than the taste. It improved with a bit of drying, but overall fails to deliver in terms of complexity. Not a disaster, just slightly underwhelming. Nowhere near the complex flavour of the sibling Signature blend by W.O. Larsen. Edit: after six months of ageing I am pleased to report the blend has mellowed and lost the bite. The flavour has remained and developed certain complexity and sophistication. I am willing to give it an extra star by now. Persistence clearly pays off! Edit #2: the leaf is now one year old since the packet was open. I returned to it last night with a wide-bowl banker by Stanwell and a 9mm filter. To my surprise the complexity developed further and the flavours improved rather than weathered. Small volume of the chosen pipe also helped.

Orange. spice, nutiness, earthiness and every nice! A refreshing find for this avid pipe smoker. It reminds me of Sail Regular, just a tad more spicy and smoother. Tends to burn fast but a tight packing and the occasional tamper will fix that. Mysterious room note but very pleasant. Can't quite put my finger on it. Works well in both a briar or a cob. I tend to taste a spicier note in the cob. Due to 1864's strength this blend may be better suited for the more seasoned smoker. Four stars in book.

W.O. Larsen aromatic blends are the best to me.this high quality blend smells nuts mixed in alcohol in a really nice way.right moisture packs and lights easy(a few relights might needed).burns mid to hot.the dominant flavour is cocoa, coffee with nuttyness and an alcohol hint in the backround.the virginia flavours are very light sometimes you might not get them.the nic level is ok for an all day smoking experience.the only negative is biting though it doesn't happen very often.moist at the end of the bowl is a bit more than should but it's not muddy.a must try blend for aromatic lovers!

Quite simply, my favourite aromatic. I love this mix. It is smooth and sweet with an underlying tanginess from the fruit. I could definitely detect the cocoa, and a hint of liqueur, but nothing overpowering. Ready to smoke straight from the tin, and never disappoints. As a fast and wet puffer, I am prone to bite from many aromatics, but not this one. A really luxuriant feel to it. I enjoy it regularly with my morning coffee and could happily smoke it all day. No. 1 in my rotation.

One of my favorite tobaccos and definitely the best aromatic I have tried. When opening the tin you can smell a coffee like flavor and notes of caramel, honey and orange. Burns nice and evenly, tastes like a mixture of a good coffee and a slice of chocolate cake (wonderful after lunch or dinner). I really enjoy this one and it is a regular part of my rotation. The flavoring never tastes artificial and it doesn't tire. Only comes in a 100g tin, but considering the amount you get, the price is alright. If you like Danish aromatics, I really recommend you try it.
