Solani 656: Aged Burley Flake
(3.41)
Notes: Blender R.L. Will developed a unique toasting process to enhance the natural sweetness of this blend. No sugar has been added.
As of 2022, licorice is the main flavoring "with a hint of chocolate", as per the label. The burleys on the tin are now listed as white burley only.

I've been getting into burley tobacco lately and was excited about this stuff. The flakes were soaking and took days to dry out. I smoked this in a variety of pipes but simply couldn't get any flavor out of it. I don't know if it was a bad tin or not but as this was the most expensive tobacco I've bought I'm not happy at all. I will stick with Petersons Irish flake from now on.

I might recommend this to the Burley lovers. In a smaller pipe and fully rubbed out, smoked very slowly, it is somewhat interesting: subtle sweet notes, occasional cocoa scent.
The cocoa scent is more evident in the tin. I don't know if it is natural or a topping applied to the tobacco. I do detect a honey casing which I believe is standard for all blends coming from this company.
Nicotine content is medium-strong.
Peterson Irish Flake, by the same company, has a similar appearance to the flakes, but has enough Virginia in it to make it more accessible.
In the end I give it only one star: it is one of the rare blends I have thrown out after only half a tin. I finally decided it was just taking up space.
Life is too short for mediocre tobacco.

I had placed so much hope in this .. My first bowl ever was the greatest disappointment of my pipe smoking experience. Bitterness, and nothing else. Everything I've smoked afterwardsthat day was just tasting Horrible. Bayou Morning Flake ? Bitter. University Flake ? Bitter. Never again.

It´s my first meeting with a pure burley and I fell in love with this natural fountain of flavour.I think that bad reviews of burley based tobaccos come, perhaps, from the use of burley in not top quality cigars. But this 656 is the number of the beauty.Perfect interlude in the middle of balkan/english rotation. The only objection is the high price well over other ,similar?,stuff. UPDATE After smoking a whole tin I can feel an unsufferable ghost in my pipes.I don´t like it and I guess some non natural casing,in consecuence I downgrade to 1 star.

4noggins had a special on this a month or two ago so I thought I'd give it a try.
BIG MISTAKE.
Maybe, just maybe, I received a dud of a tin. The aroma upon opening wasn't too bad, but the taste once lit...Oh dear.
Mould with a musty after taste. Just dire. Unsmokable. So I dried some out overnight. Same result. An extreme mouldy taste.
Right...straight to the bin with that one. never again.
