Dan's Blend is a thin ribbon cut offering, with a pouch aroma of fresh baked chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. I always like to ask the wife her interpretation of the pouch aroma and she instantly said chocolate cake as well. The aroma is amazing!
Dan's has a bit of moisture, but it doesn't seem to affect the burning or packing properties. Although you can feel it on your fingers after packing, it is not sticky. Initial lighting takes a few attempts before it stays lit.
The majority of the bowl is toasty, bready and sweet. Reminds me a bit of PS Twist Flake as far as the sweetness and Danish/pastry notes. This blend does not produce huge clouds of smoke. Just thin whisps of delightful aroma that will please a crowd. Some say this will bite if pushed, others say the opposite. Personally, having a VA sensitive tongue, this can get hot if pushed. But slow, even sips will give you the most enjoyment. There are a lot of 4-star Boswell bends out there. This is one of them!

Friend of mine tossed me an ounce and now I wished he gave me a pound! This is a bright Virginia that burns cool right down to the ash. I know, hard to believe! Along with little fruitiness of the Virginia it mellows down and not as bright with a topping of vanilla maybe?
This is just plain good and highly recommended to try!
11-24 Edit: I picked up 6 oz. And had two additional notes.
First, I was eager to smoke and grabbed a pipe that was used for strong english blend. Don't do that. This mild blend and the ghosted latakia will ruin the experience.
Second, put some in your smoking pouch to dry out a little. Fresh out the bag I had several re-lites. After being in the pouch over night I did not have a single re-lite. Great experience
2018-12-1 This is a good breath sipping blend. When it hits the right temperature you get a giant hit of vanilla that will make you say, "oh wow" out loud.

As always, Boswells delivers. It is ever so lightly cased, just enough to compliment the natural sweetness of the Virginias. I was visually put off by this blend, as it looks identical to common cigarette rolling tobacco to my untrained eyes. One touch and sniff reveals something far more refined. I do find that it will burn fast and hot if smoked to quickly. Overall, another excellent blend by Boswells.

Despite being listed as a Virginia, this is a wonderful aromatic smoke.
The tobacco is a little moist and can use some time out to dry. At first it has a very faint sweetness of vanilla and honey towards the top of the bowl;like a mix of 1-Q and Molto Dolce.
The latter half of the bowl starts to get bolder and more full bodied. Reminds me of Luxury Twist Flake with caramel and pound cake notes.
There is little, if any bite with this tobacco. If you do smoke to fast the sweetness turns a little bitter but it won't bite. The burn is very even and usually gets down to the bottom with no dottle.
This is a great blend to break in a pipe as it helps build a cake rather quickly and the sweetness won't ghost that much. You can smoke out the sweetness with a bowl or two of any other blend. Room note is wonderful and shouldn't bother even the most annoying non-smoker. I think my favorite part of this tobacco is that the topping doesn't wear off but only intensifies as you smoke down the chamber. Well done Dan 🙂

I wanted to like this as it smells gorgeous in the bottle where I've had it aging for a year or so. But it just tastes like moist air. Other Boswell aromatics which I have had much more flavor, even though I rarely do the aromatic thing nowadays.
I would recommend you give this a pass.

This is 100% Virginia so I fired up my dedicated Virginia pipe and gave it a try. Moisture was just about right and the string cut was easy to light and keep lit. It burned all the way down to white ash and maintained its strength throughout. I cannot agree this tastes like air; to me it tastes like solid Virginia although not as good or have the depth as some other Virginias that cost more. If you like Virginia, try this. It could be an all day smoke for you.

I had to smoke this blend several times to give an accurate review in the hopes that my opinion would change. But here goes?..this blend is mostly Virginia long ribbon cut and is a very light colored blend & very stringy. I found myself having to constantly re-light no matter how I packed it or what pipe I used. Contained a few stems which was not very impressive. The pouch aroma is very mild if any. Upon lighting this up, I was waiting for FLAVOR. There is very, very little flavor. This blend has very little character and is just ?bland? to say the least. Not much going on & very boring to say the least. Tongue bite is non- existent. A little too mild for me. Almost like smoking air. I coundn't not notice a difference between this blend and "Boswell's Best". But then again, when there is no flavor, there is nothing to compare!

For those that don't know, Dan is one of J.M. Boswells sons. Like Father, Like Son. Dan has put togather what I consider to be one of the finest Virginia blends around. The tobacco starts off like most VA's, a tad bitey and then almost immediately setles down and becomes a very enjoyable smoke. The typical VA distant sweetness is there but make no mistake, this is not an aromatic. Rather, it is a wonderful blend of red and gold virginias. IMHO a sure winner

This is a noob review. Still looking for my goto tobacco. I've been hitting up Lane 1Q frequently for a mild smoke. This tobacco is just as mild and leaves me with a better mouthfeel.

Smoking now:
Bag note is a wonderful chocolate aromatic. What a surprise. Not goopy, just damp. Lite fine.
The taste is nice and mellow. It’s not heavy chocolate but a very sweet milk chocolate type of flavor. The Virginias are sweet being grassy hay and bread like. The topping mellows it out imparting a sweet chocolate and vanilla flavor.
As the bowl continues the sweetness lasts. The Virginias become more apparent, the topping diminishes slightly but can still be detected. No bite, slight mouth tingle, easily smoked with large clouds of smoke. Retrohale is grassy, a bit harsh as it tingles the nose, a little fruit maybe. A sweet desert like Virginia aromatic smoke.
All and all this is a slam dunk aromatic. Aromatic, not a ready rubbed Virginia. I imagine the room note is pretty good. My co workers said it smelled delicious. On my end I definitely enjoyed it as an aromatic.
