G. L. Pease Westminster

(3.34)
Westminster: The very essence of the traditional English mixture; rich, elegant, refined, and exquisitely balanced. New World red Virginias are enhanced with a gentle caress of bright leaf, then lavishly seasoned with rich oriental tobaccos and generous measures of noble Cyprus mountain latakia. Westminster is a satisfying blend, presenting layers of flavor to delight the senses and develop in the bowl. A perfect everyday English mixture. Full bodied.
Notes: Westminster was introduced in January, 2007.

Not enough Os in "smoooooooth"... Sweet campfire smoke, complete with charring marshmallows and a bit of salt-air tang. This is, by far, the finest example of an "English" blend I've smoked yet. My original tins are all marked early January '07 and the burn rate on this early batch was something less than optimal, something I gather that has been remedied. But the smoke never turned bitter and the relights were all just as smooth and sweet as the rest of the bowl - don't let that stop you from trying this fine weed. My cobs and briars, large and small, all adore this blend. I have to agree with Puff Daddy about cellaring way too much of this stuff. Yes - it's that good!

The finest GLP blend created. My tin, which was packed in late March 2007, did not experience the issue of being too moist. It was perfect smoking humidity straight from the tin. Perfect burn, perfect flavor and smooth.

Loaded into an LJ Heart, it lit without incident and stayed lit throughout the bowl. Unlike some Pease blends that can be harsh and unrefined, this one is truly a masterpiece. The perfect English blend reminiscent of so many of the Dunhill mixtures that are no more.

For you English lovers out there, this is one to stock up on. Incidently, it does smell rather leathery and only ugly women at bar closing time will want you when smoked in the company of females.

What can I say? Pease strikes again. If you can get a warehouse-full of this stuff, do so, and then call up Microsoft and maybe they'll offer you half the company in exchange for it.

Somehow the "zip" of the Latakia doesn't overtake, and I've never gotten tongue bite from the Pease tobaccos. This particular one changes across the bowl, running from tangy and salty at the top of the bowl, down to nutty and sort of sesame-like at later stages.

And it's worth really paying attention to your light -- if you let it go out and then cool and re-light, you may not get the next flavor as comprehensively as, if you smoke it all straight down from one lighting by fire at the outset. Make sense?

Highly reco.

Really Good if you like Latakia. NOt to be used indoors at my house, but only for the sake of the wife, kids and dogs. I would have no problem come home to this smoky, peaty, aroma. Reminds me of a nice glass of Islay Whisky (Laphroaig or Lagavulin). For me, it's 965 on steroids. Get some!

Since the TR text editor doesn't format cut-and-paste properly, here is a link to a review published elsewhere in the online tobacco world.
Westminster is a truly exceptional blend, IMO, and I had much to say about it. The story behind its creation is inspiring, and illustrates Greg's tremendous passion for blending.

This a great tobacco and I give GL Pease much credit for researching the old Dunhill tobacco and trying to recreate another lost blend.

Truthfully, the only Dunhill tobacco I ever liked was Aperitif and so I never expected to be crazy for this blend but had to try it because of the story behind it's creation. It's very smokey, very leathery (I wish I had a better way to describe that), and musty. It reminds me of opening the case of an old vintage guitar, although I doubt anyone else would have that association.

It's not something I'll smoke very much because there other blends which I enjoy more but this is really fine blending and every English blend lover should try it at least once and read the story about how it was created.

I don't know why his tin descriptions would be considered "pompous", really. They are well written and describe the type of tobacco in the tin with, some embellishment. Why not?

A pleasurable blend - I believe I smoked this tin more quickly than any single other tin in recent history. I had a 2-week business trip in Scandinavia and, after a difficult and trying workday, it was nice to sit down in the quilted hotel chair, lean back, let the Westminster flavor flood and relax.

Latakia compliments but doesn't dominate. What makes this blend unique is the oriental amping going on here.

An excellent blend.

Images evoked include the symphony of muted hacksaws in strange unison wielded by undead lumberjacks on a beautiful spring day.

It's difficult to know what to add to all the rave reviews of this absolutely excellent blend. All I have to say is that Greg Pease set out to try to capture the essence of Dunhill's original London Mixture, one of the greatest blends ever made, and has succeeded brilliantly. I remember and mourn the old London Mixture that used to give me so much pleasure, but now I can rejoice. It has been re-born in an even grander form in Westminster!

Very in depth review from Webber/4509. Basically useless. I notice that some folks seem to have an axe to grind with Greg Pease blends. I cannot imagine why. I have never tasted a Pease blend yet (10 so far) that was not well above average.
