Peterson Irish Flake

(3.35)
A full bodied blend made of equal proportions air-cured, flue cured, and dark fired. True to the pure, unspoiled tobacco taste. Recommended for the experienced pipe smoker.

This stuff is RAW,RAW,RAW!!!!! It has the at Lakeland District floral taste and is just incredibly harsh. This is perhaps the worst flake I have ever smoked in my life! It does burn cool enough, but it is strong. I had a sore throat after half a bowl. I am an EXPERINCED pipe smoker and this blend although purporting to be for that individual,is really just a noxious weed. If I could give negative 2 stars I would. Please save your 10$ and buy University flake by the same company. Avoid at all costs.

Update 15th March 2018. I bought a tin of this for nostalgia. Nostalgia's rubbish. And so is Irish Flake.

There's a lot of raves about this one, but I can't get my head around it. Occasionally it's amongst the best smokes in the world but, more often than not, it's as if my pipe is filled with twigs and brambles. That's not necessarily a bad thing. But why can't I get the consinstency that is raved about? Maybe it's my hormones or my pheromones. I rate Peter Stokkebyes Irish Slices much more than this. But, disasterously, that's gone out of productuon. Does anyone know where I can get some?

From the way this tobacco is prepared, it is meant for the patrons would enjoy their tobacco strong and true to the earth. But, I would advise beginners to stray far away from this tobacco because the first whiff of this tobacco is a trip on it's on. Perhaps, I would rewrite my review once I can handle this tobacco.

Probably the best of its class, rara avis in the obnoxious range of aromatic Peterson tobaccos.I would define it as a rustical luxury, something like a venerable castle with flavours of a farm.I shall not give the fourth star because I detect, call me insane,a slight fruitty topping.Just as other flakes I prefer rub out and jarring, 1 year past quality improve.Ideal for a interlude of balkans, english and so on.Believe the label, for experienced smokers-I must do a revision, after smoking a lot of this stuff I began to feel every pipe more and more an horrible casing, right now I declare this flake aromatic and by Jove I hate aromatics.

Tin aroma silage with hint of wet alfalfa. Very nicely presented beautiful stacked flakes. Bowl packed well as I explored a full-bodied venture of careful sipping. May die of N. Press on, char and relight I wondered if I might be out of my league on this. Cough, sip. I imagine the room note may be offensive. Am I enjoying this, so far a mere honest strong tasty quality blend. Finally, near the end more than I can tolerate. Five minutes after I stop I am in a cold sweat. This blend may not be saveable for me. For some experienced smoker but for me the lowest rating I can give.

Strong and tasteless but it is possible to have it come out as a decent smoke but that effort isn´t worth it.Why make a tobacco that very difficult to handle?Kind of snobbish I think.I have smoked pipe for more than45 years now and I know how to make this one come out decent as a 3 or 4 star tobacco.but I have never looked at pipesmoking as some kind of competition. To smoke one tin of this one with a 4 star feel you must consume two tins, thats not fair,at least not for the wallet.

When I see all that is written here by us enthusiastic amateurs about this blend I think of the old swedish proverb"Kärt barn har många namn"...in english, something like:"A child that is loved by many has equally many names"...is a fair translation. When it comes to strong tasty nicotineloaded speciments at the tobaccoshelf we pipesmokers seems to have something to say either we like it or not,BUT WE MUST MAKE OUR DIS/LIKING HEARD!I think this is a pronounced public opinion over a subjects importancy for those it has given proper attention to.To smoke is to do some very civilized action compared to eating. To smoke something you must have a thorough knowledgebank with its ingredients descending from many classical faculties of academical disciplines, chemistry, physics, medicine, physiology and many many more.To eat you just have to engage something that does not taste sh...with mouth and teeth.
So whatever your liking about some specific brand is, the consumation of it has so a great span of linkings to importancys of life itself that it by necescity cant be ignored. This was just a reflection when I browsed through my tobaccopages today and I must confess I´m more proud over my tobacco habit than my english spelling and grammar.Greetings and love to all my brothers and sisters out there indulging the tobaccoplants pleasures.

I was quite disapointed with irish flake.I expected a pure tobacco taste, to me it tasted like a strong version of St Bruno/Condor very perfumed certainly not pure tobacco taste.

it did smoke cool without tongue bite, but started to taste tarry after the halfway mark. i expected more from a peterson product, not for the faint hearted

I really can't believe this is listed as having no flavoring. It's almost overwhelming. It reminds me of Worcestershire sauce and burnt BBQ gristle. Strength is second only to 1792 Flake. Another gross and heavily topped tobacco.

On opening I was greeted by the smell of German black bread dipped into aftershave. Small brown flakes, I've folded and twisted 2 of them and still it was not sufficient to fill medium-sized bowl. Lighting was hard but manageable.

What can I say? The best thing about this tobacco is that it does not byte. But that's all. It produces heavy one-dimensional Burley smoke, without any Virginia sweetness, just raw nicotine. It is not regular smoking; it's more like eating peppered bread which was burnt in a scout campfire. I got used to think that I am accustomed to nicotine, but this is too much for my playground. My advice: rub it out. Folding will lead to 1-2 hours suffering, truly masochistic experience.

I've tried it a number of times at different opportunities, but nope. I should overcome my greediness and throw the tin to garbage. BTW, the tin's form is far from perfection, it closes badly and makes impossible to keep tobacco in it for more then a week.

I have had a tin of this tobacco in my possession for over twelve months now. When I first bought it, I found it a little too strong for my taste, although there were aspects to it's flavour and aroma that I liked. Not least when you pop the tin and get that hit of a deep rich earthy/leather aroma. I didn't throw it, I kept it, and it has aged in the tin relatively well; the flavours and general character of the tobacco seem to have mellowed to make a slightly more tolerable smoke. Make no mistake, this is a very strong tobacco for smokers that like to get a 'nicotine rush' after the first 10 seconds of lighting up. But I may come to appreciate this one with more time and patience. Not one that I would smoke regularly though.

Edit: This may have become more tolerable as a blend, but my tolerenace to burley has vastly decreased. This stuff's going in the bin!
