Cornell & Diehl Engine 99
(3.43)
This is a full English blend -- a combination of Red Odessa and the unpressed components of Pirate Kake.
A full bodied blend with enough latakia to pull ol' #99 up a mountain grade with flavor to spare. Loaded with latakia, perique, Virginias, burleys, and Orientals.
Notes: Engine 99 is a combination of Red Odessa, which is itself the same blend as Odessa but with red Virginia substituted for the cavendish cut burley, and the unpressed components of Pirate Kake.

Cornell and Diehl tobaccos are among my favorites and I was prepared to like this one. I normally smoke English mixtures and Virginia blends. However, I found the flavor to be harsh and biting from start to finish on first tasting. So, I let it age for 6 months and tried again. It was still unpleasant and I gave it away to a friend who likes strong Balkan blends. I haven't heard from him since then, so he may not have liked it either. I won't be spending any more time riding on Engine 99.
