The Oriental/Turkish offers earth, wood, herbs, vegetation, mild dry sourness, spice and are moderately floral, though less stronger than it could be, which is an observation and not a complaint. They are a major star. The nutty, earthy, woody, mildly sweet burleys are secondary stars. The smokey, woody, earthy, musty, incense-like sweet Cyprian Latakia is obvious without being forceful. The sugary black cavendish is a background player. The Virginias are a little grassy, earthy, woody, citrusy with light dark fruit as they form the base of the blend. The sweet topping is extremely mild, and doesn't sublimate the tobaccos to any real degree. The strength and taste levels are a couple of steps past the center of mild to medium. The nic-hit is a slot behind them. Won’t bite or get harsh. Has a few rough edges. Burns cool and clean at a reasonable pace with a very consistent, well balanced, mildly sweet, spicy and more savory flavor from top to bottom. Leaves little moisture in the bowl. Requires an average number of relights. Has a very pleasantly lingering after taste and stronger room note. Can be an all day smoke.

Like most of the reviews of this blend, I will concur with the strong depth of flavor it presents while remaining somewhat light on strength. Stokkebye is, by far, the finest Danish blender of English/Oriental style tobaccos (IMO, of course), and this is another bell ringer.
Although similar to Stokkebye English Opulence, the Oriental presence is certainly much stronger with the "English" presentation on the backburner. Not sure this is what I would call a true Oriental blend but it sure is good. I think the Burley and Cavendish additions make this one very unique.

I love English blends. After trying many, I was surprised to find myself repeatedly measuring them against this inexpensive bulk blend. It has something about it that others just don't have, or fail to deliver as well. For me, this is as good as it gets. A smooth easy smoke, but with lots of character and delightful flavors in each bowl. IMHO, this English Oriental truly is Supreme. The fact that it is such a great value is just an added bonus! Way to go Peter Stokkebye.

This tobacco receives a 9 out of 10 rating from me.
I am quickly becoming a fan of Peter Stokkebye tobaccos. As a relatively new pipe smoker I have been trying several different blends and of all the ones I have tried my two favorites that I have settled on so far are Peter Stokkebye 47 Dansk Black (for aromatic) and this blend Peter Stokkebye 306 English Oriental Supreme for an English blend. These two blends have allowed me to have trusty fall back tobaccos that I KNOW I will enjoy at any time which now gives me the freedom to branch out and try other new blends! And something must also be mentioned of the fact that Peter Stokkebye bulk tobaccos are much easier on the wallet than some of the other premiums I have tried (and not liked as much). That's a definite plus for me!

I found this blend and chose it from off the shelf by Divine Providence at one of my favorite pipe shops, Old Towne Tobacconists in Historic Downtown Fredericksburg, VA. As a Pennsylvanian relocated in Florida, this sits conveniently along the route I take home twice or thrice yearly, and is a real gem of a shop. Lovely Virginia has more of these shops than any other state I have ventured through, having a very rich tobacco heritage.
English Oriental Supreme is one of two Stokkebye blends I have smoked, the other being his Optimum, which I couldn't bring myself to finish an ounce of before it dried beyond use. Oriental Supreme has a similarly boastful title, but backs up it's pomposity with truth. This is a Supreme smoking mixture, one fit for royalty.
Being an experience novice, this is only my second English blend I have smoked, the other being the much milder Early Morning Pipe from Dunhill. This one, to my understanding, is closer to the classic English, though it includes both Black Cav and Burley, with are apparently not welcome to some.
This blend, to me, will be a repeat purchase. I will likely acquire 3-4 ounces on my next visit to Virginia over the Holiday season. The first description that comes to mind is 'smooth'. The complexity of it's contents makes for an ever expanding flavor experience, ranging from the smooth and nutty (from the burley), the decadently brassy (the Black Cav and the lovely lady Virginia) to the almost cinnamon spice of the Latakia. Having been smitten with Latakias fierce venom early in my smoking career, I am fearful of the flame, so to speak, concerning Latakia blends, which has slowed my introduction to English weeds. But the complexity of this blend keeps the fangs of the Orientals at bay, allowing for a very balanced and most enjoyable smoke.
I highly recommend this to anyone, but particularly to the new pipers out there, looking to experiment with a wide variety of fine toebaks with a goal to broaden ones palate. This one is sure to do the trick, and leave you with no regets, bowl after bowl.
Note: Smoke it slow. You can pound this one, since it will never once bite, but it's most enjoyable when sipped, and the flavors become new like the morning on each relight.

This is a nice easy going Latakia blend. Probably best for the beginner venturing into this type of blend. It can be smoked mindlessly, but I would opt for something more complex for a contemplative smoke. It is very similar to its cousin, English Luxury Mixture, but where that has a sweet vanilla type of topping, this has a more exotic spicy sweetness to it. I believe it is due to a topping of some sort.
I personally prefer this to ELM and think this is a good one to have in the cellar. Like all of the PS bulks, it is offered at quite the bargain and it is a nice smooth lat, that is pretty well balanced. The Latakia is light, but noticeable. It can easily be smoked all day without leaving that overwhelming Campfire mouth that a couple of back to back bowls of Penzance or Odyssey will leave you.
Overall, recommended, but perhaps highly recommended to the beginner wanting to experience a Lat blend.

I am pretty picky when it comes to the addition of Cavendish and/or burley to my English blends so considering EOS has both, it sat in a jar for a year before I brought myself to take it for a spin. EOS is very balanced and although a mild English, and not very complex, it's not lacking in flavor. EOS produces smooth billows of smoke and even the hardest puffers will find it not to bite. As the name suggests, it is an English oriental and the Orientals lead, but not by much. The Cavendish adds a touch of sweetness and richness to the blend. My only negative is that EOS stays pretty constant throughout and there isn't a lot of complexity here so it won't make the regular rotation. Sold in bulk, it does make for a great value. Recommended

This is a very nice English Oriental available at an attractive price. There's a background sweetness and hay tastes presumably from the Virginia. Then there's some spice from the Orientals. A small amount of Latakia - enough to be noticed, but very much a background player. Seems to be nicely balanced. I enjoyed smoking this, and my first 2oz trial order disappeared quickly. Have already ordered 8oz and I suspect this tobacco will always be one that I'll want to have available - it's just a very nice English/Oriental, easy enjoyable smoking. Leaves a pleasant slightly sweet aftertaste in the mouth. This tobacco shows that you don't have to pay top prices to get a quality smoke. No, it's probably not the best tobacco in the world, but what it gives is a very enjoyable and satisfying smoke at an attractive price, and for that it deserves a solid recommendation.

Some English tobaccos are simply Latakia dumps. Some are produced with only the gentle palate in mind. English Oriental Supreme is none of the above. When you open the bag, the tobacco smells smoky and looks like any other English on the market. It is Cavendish cut and there are many different colors to enjoy. Because of the cut, I'd recommend the 3 stage packing style. That is, the first little bit is placed and packed softly in the bottom of the bowl as though a child were doing it. The second stage consists of a little more tobacco being placed and packed in the bowl with a little more force as though a woman were doing it. The final stage is where the bowl is filled as though a man were packing it. The final pack should be harder than the first two. Anyway, the packing is nice and the stuff takes to a light very well. I do confess, however, that I do occasionally have to tamp and re-light the tobacco. But when it's going there is no stopping it. The first thing to note is that the tobacco tastes of wood and not smoke like most Latakia based blends. I think that this is due to the mixture of Virginia and Cavendish tobaccos. The taste is unique within this genre. Don't get me wrong, there is a fair amount of smoky goodness in this stuff, but that taste only adds to the "wood" feel of the weed. This taste does not change much all the way down the bowl. Now, if you forget yourself and puff too vigorously, there will be the slightest of tongue-bite. When you slow back down, you can get back to business. The burn is cool and the room aroma is like a fireplace. Note that I said a fireplace and not a camp fire. A camp fire would imply more smokiness than found here. The wife hates this stuff as much as any other English, but any real pipe smoker will appreciate the unique aroma this one puts out for an English. The ash is evrything you've come to expect from a fine tobacco. The pipe is left clean and dry. I don't know how Peter Stokkebye does it, but even with all of the Burleys and Virginias, the Nicotine level seems pretty tame. And, a full pipe of this stuff can last up to an hour. If you have never smoked an English tobacco before, start here. And, if you are used to stout English blends, stop here for something unique in the genre. I will definitely purchase this again. All of this at a great price! Winner! Winner! Chicken Dinner!!

I initially got this because I couldn't get a hold of some other superlative Oriental I had fallen in love with. First couple of bowls and I was like, hey - this is good! Couple of more bowls and I had built some familiarity...so much so that when I got my order of the Oriental I was waiting on, I found that the Stokkebye's was actually the better smoke!! I'm a little spoiled on this now. There's a couple of other reviews on this tobacco that say that they judge all other Orientals by the Stokkebye's and I'm going to have to concur. This really is an Oriental to use as a springboard to gauge all other Oriental blends! Truly, this is a classic. Classic.

Summary: a new take on the ancient discipline of the English blend.
People are divided over Burley in Englishes and especially Balkans, the variety of Englishes with a higher proportion of Oriental leaf. In "English Oriental," the Burley broadens the flavor and gives it a bit more fullness, raising the contrast between the other ingredients. While the Virginias form the basis of this flavor, a light and sweet cheerful taste, the fusion of Cavendish with Orientals translates the flavor of Latakia from dominance of the blend into a background influence, so that a smoky molasses flavor emerges and takes the edge off the Virginia sweetness, ending up with an overall taste to the blend that is a lot like hazelnut. The Burley winks from behind with its nutty, grainy warmth, and this allows the Orientals to dominate without dominating as their isolated flavor. Light in nicotine, and with a gentle but powerful flavor, this blend makes an easy introduction to Englishes and a comforting, all-day smoke, but it must be smoked slowly to avoid some sizzle from the Virginias.

Oriental-forward on the tin note with a backdrop of musty Latakia, Stokkebye's English Oriental Supreme is a Burley-buffered Balkan with muted Virginias. Presentation is dark to light brown ribbon and on the dry side, which I find both typical and optimal for Oriental and Balkan blends.
There's a touch of unflavored Cavendish sweetness on the charring light and each of the constituent tobaccos competes for dominance until the blend settles down. This seems like a more Oriental-forward rendition of English Luxury with significantly less Cavendish and a pinch more Latakia.
The Stokkebye Orientals start off spicy with some wood and salted nut tones. By mid-bowl the Orientals flatten out a bit, offering more straightforward pepper and parchment flavors. For most of the smoke, the Latakia is earthy and musty without the damper mushroom flavors of a more Cavendish-heavy Latakia blend. By the final quarter of the bowl, however, the blend turns more dank, earthy and moist with the crisper Oriental further in the background and a mossy Latakia capturing the most notice.
The dampness on the finish is all relative, however, and English Oriental Supreme smokes down to ash without excessive moisture left in the bowl. While not dry by Oriental standards, this certainly isn't a wet or goopy blend.
Overall, I would classify this as the Oriental-forward version of several Stokkebye blends featuring Latakia and Oriental tobacco: as certainly good as it is certainly not great. For smokers on a budget, the value here is hard to beat. Nothing to complain about here - a solid blend - though vying for attention in a highly competitive field of world class offerings. That said, an inexpensive and excellent introduction to this genre of pipe tobacco.

My overall impression is that English Oriental Supreme, fancy name aside, is a meat-and-potatoes tobacco. Just like Mama's pot roast, it doesn't challenge the palate, and it could be described as one- dimensional. However, that one dimension has a name, and it is spelled G-O-O-D. At the end of a hectic day, I'm not up for a challenge. I want pot roast that I can cut with a fork, and a tobacco that smokes easy and tastes good. When my wife learns how to cook like my mom, I'll have both. Until then, I'll settle for tobacco like English Oriental Supreme. It'll be part of my regular rotation.

While this baccy does not smoke hot or bite and leaves no bad taste or odor in the pipe or mouth, I can't find any redeeming quality that makes it desirable or a stand out. It packs OK and lights OK, but the smoking is extremely one dimensional, becomes quite harsh toward the end of the bowl, and lacks any real flavor that makes it likable. Also has a humectant added that makes it impossible to dry out to any appreciable degree. Will not become a staple in my lineup and will not be reordered. Also, would not recommend for newbies.

Although is a mild tobacco comparing them with my favorites (MM 965 or Presbyterian Mixture) has in this Tobacco something that I really like, and that is the smell of tanned skin as aftertaste. Recommended for any time of day, contemplative, best for the evening with a good book, one word - superb tobacco! Indeed, Peter Stokkebye again proved itself as the best Danish blender. There are times when I love a strong English, with its strength of Latakia. And, there are times when I like a lighter English, or an English/Oriental blend like EMP. This blend, for me, is simply marvelous. I can't get enough of this. Smooth, rich, refined, and fairly complex. The Orientals take precedence over the Cyprian Latakia, but every leaf in the blend seems of high quality, and as it's a Stokkebye blend, it's extremely well done. I would give this to any newer piper for their introduction into Latakias. I have recommended it to seasoned vets. It's simply an all day blend for a lover of Orientals and Latakia. Never gives me the dreaded dry mouth effect, either. The Burley and Black Cav just smooth things out to a remarkable degree. Wonderful blend, and reasonable!

PS English Oriental Supreme is now my go to and favorite English blend. I have been searching for a smokable English and tried many different blends which include: Davidoff Royalty, Aston's Consummate Gentleman, McClelland's Full Dark English 5110, Sam Gawith's Squadron Leader, and Skiff Mix, Sam Gawith's Golden Glow (Broken Virginia Flakes) my only Virginia. However, it is Peter Stokkebye's English Oriental Supreme that is my go to and favorite blend. It is mild w/o any tongue bite, and medium in strength. It is easily an all day smoke, has great flavor, and is extremely enjoyable. It is sold in bulk, and this does not diminish it's quality at all, rivaling any of the listed above tobacco's. Tongue bite is always a issue with me and PS English Oriental Supreme does not have any what so ever. Having smoked aromatic tobacco's most with tongue bite it is great to find a good English w/o this issue. A must try if you are smoking English or looking to begin. Packs easily, holds its flavor through out the bowl, and produces wonderful clouds of smoke, and has pleasant room note. Try and enjoy!

PS English Oriental Supreme is an outstanding, mellow pipe smoking mixture.
It is not a traditional english, it is not a perfumey oriental, it is not an american burley/va blend, it is not a black cavendish candy-laced aromatic....it is a Frankenstein-like creature of a blend and it is brilliant!
All the tobaccos work together in a symphonic effect to produce a fantastic, intriguing, contemplative smoke that is sweet and easy-going. Not too strong in either flavor or nicotine and never gets boring. Beautiful ribbon cut makes for an easy pack no matter the pipe size.

Nice mild and pleasant smoke. Surprising consistency in the flavor with all that's going on here. The Orientals and burley are out front with a combined nutty woody and earthy notes. Theres also a very gentle peppery, faint bitter walnut. The Virginia is citrusy and grassy. The Latakia is a sparse condiment offering herbal, floral, smokiness. The black cavendish offers a lot of sweetness. The topping is mild. Pretty much everything is in the mild to medium range. This could be an all day smoke. It does have a little spice so that might not fit everyone.

Mild English, slightly Oriental/Turkish forward blend. Contains Black Cavendish, Burley, Latakia, Oriental/Turkish and Virginia. Short ribbon cut, almost perfect moisture from bulk bag when arrived from Smokingpipes.com.
Burns very nicely, no relights, produces a lot of smoke with a slight mouth coating. Latakia is condiment, noticeable but in the background. The Black Cavendish operates to even out the tangy Orientals in a pleasing way. Surprisingly burns somewhat hot, not sure why considering the many components.
Not a fancy blend, old school in the sense that the rich tobacco flavors shine, no noticeable topping. Moderate nic, moderate strength and moderate taste. A nice experience when one wants to just enjoy the taste of a well-balanced Oriental forward smoke.

Another good blend from Stokkebye. This is a cool burning, bite free, English tobacco. The smell is, for sure, English with presence of Latakia, but the real players are Balkans and Virginias. I think it has some Cavendish in it. But, Burley seems to consolidate the experience by adding substance. The nicotine is mild and it burns with moderately and leaves no moisture.

A woodsy-tasting, well balanced blend, this is an early favorite of mine. At the time of my writing this, I've been smoking pipes for about 6 weeks, and I've smoked 13 different tobaccos. I enjoyed my sample ounce so much that I bought a pound of it. The latakia is very noticeable, but not overpowering. All-around great flavor. Needs some drying time.
EDIT Jan 17, 2019: I opened a mason jar of EOS that I put away in April 2018. 9 months of aging has resulted in some pleasant changes in the smoking characteristics. The virginia & oriental leaf content isn't as sharp, and there's a more uniform taste from beginning to end of the bowl. It seems like the smoke is meatier/thicker/richer than before. It's like this blend has become more of a mixture. I'm enjoying this quite a bit in the large bowl of my Chris Morgan Bones series "Fat Author" (virtually identical in size/shape to a Savinelli 320ks
I've got a couple more jars that were sealed up at the same time (4/18/18), and I'm looking forward to opening one of them in another 6-9 months and seeing what further changes might have occurred.

The only thing I find kinda odd is the description says through tobaccoreview that there is orientals yet the Stokkebye main description does not say these tobaccos are present which impart is a strange title for a blend name, when I smoke this awesome blend I get no hints of orientals at all but never the less this blend is one of the best non aromatics I have had in a long time, its the mildness that blows my mind yet maintaining its depth and weight to it in flavor. The latakia is just right and the unflavored cavendish gives it just a hint of sweetness while the burley keeps it toned down and smoking smooth. I absolutely love latakia although I am a aromatic man, latakia bombs are a huge turn off when over done and it taste like your smoking a leather ashtray of smokiness with something else, I do not call that all natural all tobacco taste I call that yuk!!! BUT PS EOS 306 is the perfect model of a fine English style tobacco blend that allows you to enjoy the taste of latakia but in harmony with all the other goodness it has to offer. Very mellow, very smooth, low nicotine and light to medium in body I enjoy this blend very much so I highly recommend it!!!

One must concur with many reviews here: this is a good intro to Englishes, and a lighter "all day" type of English. The latakia is present, but not obtrusive. Unique to this blend is a cool, tea like quality to its flavor. It really must be sipped slowly to be enjoyed. This isn't a work in the shed blend, it's a sit and read or chat with the wife blend. I only give it three stars because I would like taste more latakia.

I found this one full of flavour and in a very good balance and I think that is the beauty of this tobacco. However, this isn't a strong one which is not going to punch you or dare I say not even give you a kick! It's all about good complex flavour! First, it praises you with the sweetness of the Virgina, also a hint of Black Cavendish, along with ... the nuttiness from the burley, occasionally you have a touch of spiciness, from the orientals? I'm not so sure, but that little fragrant mustiness is certainly there. The Latakia is a team player, but not dominant! I enjoyed this one immensely! Get yourself a good sized bowl (To this I prefer a pot with a good breath) and let the baccy shines through if you like English, I'm more than highly recommend this one to you! And do sip this little beauty slowly, Enjoy!

Peter Stokkebye - English Oriental Supreme.
Like the Bengal Slices I reviewed yesterday, this is a bit of a 'milder' English. But, to be fair, it has more of the usual English type flavour in comparison.
The pouch holds a mixture that looks to be quite a fair split between black and brown. The moisture's perfect, but I think that's because 1: it's bulk, and 2: it's had a long journey from SmokingPipes.com giving it time to dry if it was moist.
The smoke has a mild English quality, but nowhere near as much vanilla sweetness as the Bengal Slices I reviewed yesterday: the Black Cavendish seems much lighter. Although the Black Cav's light, it isn't as wimpy as the Virginia: this really is a Feather Weight in the smoke. The most flavour is given by the Burley and Latakia: the Burley tastes uncomplicated and simple, and the Latakia gives a gentle sharpness.
Apart from the flavour, there are a few other good aspects of E.O.S.: the burn's superb, it goes steadily to a pure ash, the temperature of the smoke gets no higher than medium at any point, there's no bite whatsoever, the nicotine's just below medium, and the smoke's so thick it's almost chewy!
Even though I find this a good blend I wouldn't give it four stars. It's nice, but if I want a mild English I'd just fill with Bengal Slices.
Still, it gets a steadfast recommendation:
Three stars.

This is my every day smoke. First thing in the morning with coffee and often times, all through the day. For every ounce I buy of something else, I'll puchase a half pound of this. The cavendish provides a sweet note without ever being cloying. The rest are expertly mixed and the concoction never bites regardless of what I smoke it in or how hard I smoke. Low on the nicotine and high on flavor. You won't find it very strong but what it lacks in this it makes up in character. Small pipe or large, it's very forgiving and cares little as to how it's packed. If you want a blend of this sort this one's always consistent and demands little in the way of attention regarding tecnique or moisture content, here it is.

I find this much more to my liking than PS English Luxury and PS Proper English. Mostly because the additive notes in those tobaccos are largely absent here. This is pretty much pure tobacco with only the occasional background false note.
As the name suggests this is an Oriental forward English blend with a light but always evident measure of Latakia. I noticed the Burleys in this tobacco more than the Virginias, and the bread-like, sometimes slightly bitter, Burley notes are present from start to finish. The Orientals are spicy and fragrant and complex. I thought the side stream and room note were first class.
Burns beautifully and produces great clouds of billowing white smoke.
A solid 3 stars, I was only troubled by the Burley bitterness, which I thought intrusive particularly as the bowl progresses. Otherwise, this is the best bulk English blend I have found to date.

I suppose it was bound to happen -- with something like 80 blends -- I was eventually going to run into a Stokkebye I didn't care for. However, that doesn't mean you'll feel the same.
The problem I have with English Oriental Supreme is that while it's a blend of four different tobaccos, all that really comes across is the Latakia, which completely over-powers the other three.
While I think Latakia -- with it's clove cigarette flavor -- can add some complexity in very small doses, the dose in English Oriental Supreme is far from very small. It's a bit of a shame, as you can taste a deep, rich, somewhat spicy blend somewhere far underneath, and the it certainly smokes well. But at about the mid-bowl point the Latakia begins to exhaust my taste buds.
Now with all that said, if you're a Latakia fan, English Oriental Supreme will give you a lot to cheer about. But personally, I feel a lighter touch in the blending would have made this as supreme as it's name.
UPDATE 9/27/13: I've began mixing this about 50/50 with the Stokkebye Virginia Long Cut, and am finding it pretty enjoyable. So while I can't recommend it on it's own, it does offer a full, rich, complex smoke with a somewhat neutral mixer.

This is one of the best buys in Bulk English blends. The Latakia isn't overpowering but it makes itself known.English Oriental Supreme has a very smooth flavor. This blend isn't unlike Dunhill 965. Like many English blends I find that this blend is more enjoyable when smoked slowly. However, if you are prone to smoking fast this blend will not bite you even though the burley is there making this a perfect everyday smoke. For the price you can afford to keep this in your rotation. A very good smoke at a very good price.

Excellent blend. Sweeter (hard to describe) than the Proper and Luxury English blends for P.S.. I love it though. The after smell is very aromatic and enjoyable.
It seems to be more musty, earthy, and a bit more 'spicy', if you will, than the other P.S. english blends. Has less Latakia than both proper and luxury but maintains a smokey flavor.

This is my favorite blend in the Stokkebye line. Very well balanced, natural, earthy and refined. The cavendish is just slightly noticeable and it works well in this blend, giving it a more round, mellow flavor. Really, a three and a half star blend for the aroma (or 9 out of 10). The mildness (no tongue bite) and the fact that it's available in bulk at a very reasonable price, earns it the extra half star.

This is Stokkebye at its best. It comes retail quite young and aging adds a lot to this blend. This, IMHO, is the all round best english/balkan type blend on the market at this time. Highest quality tobaccos, excellent proportions of each type of leaf, great smoking qualities and value. When puchased in bulk it can had for as little as $15 a pound and at that price one can cellar quite a bit of it indeed.

I like this one. Sweet, smokey and grassy. Very close to the 'campfire' smoke that I have been searching for. It's my favorite at the moment. My first English blend. Nice aroma in the pouch and burning. I'm looking forward to exploring the worlds of English, Latakia and Oriental blends further. I got a few ounces of Stokk's English Luxury at the same time this was obtained. They both seem very similiar to me. A solid 3 stars.

One of my "go to" tobacco's. When I've had my fill of trying new blends. This is what I turn to. I experimented with 220/220 aging (2 hour and 20 minutes at 220deg). Gave it a much mellower and rich smoke and melded the flavors, much more evenly.

"Oriental Supreme" is a good name for this Oriental-forward blend. At lightup, a strong note of tart fruit was immediately apparent, and continued throughout the bowl. The grassy, tart Virginias worked very well with the sweeter Black Cavendish and the fruity Orientals to create a very tasty smoke, with a nice condiment of Latakia rounding out the flavor with a smoky, earthy aftertaste that lingered a long while. No tongue bite, and no harsh or jarring flavors. Pairs well with a good medium or dark roast coffee.

It has Orientals and Burley in the lead. Not harsh, burnt smooth. Interesting blend.. spicy, nutty, leathery, soapy (not in a bad way), and some grassy notes from VA and smokiness from Lat.
Profile didn't change much throughout the bowl but kept me engaged.
Not as oriental as I thought it could be given the name. 3.2 out of 4 Could be an all day smoke for some but not for me. I do however see it being in my rotation as a once or twice a week kinda baccy.

COMMENTARY – PETER STOKKEBYE ENGLISH ORIENTAL SUPREME: An Unimaginable Discovery
Being the serious creature of habit that I am, October’s introduction observed me actively pursuing the member forums on the PipesMagazine.com website. On this occasion, as I was scrolling through the topical listing of discussions, my eyes flashed upon one blog that struck a strong chord of curiosity. The subject heading was centered on a question regarding the members’ “most important discoveries in pipe smoking”. Hm, isn’t that an interesting tract for pondering I thought to myself.
As I have previously related, my pathway into the world of piping was as common as it was for most. The compulsory long and arduous trek down that aromatic highway of superfluity. With the progression of time and experience, however, eventually I arrived at a necessary and timely crossroad. At that very intersection, I recall feeling somewhat dislocated.
An indeterminate beckoning goaded me incessantly. The manifestation of this showed to be quite unsettling as one would have it. Specifically, it was a perfect evocation to advance my sophomoric pipe-smoking career to the next tier, whatever that truly meant, as I was most uncertain. This internal nudging persisted and persisted. Ultimately, when it combined with the simple state of boredom that I was experiencing at the time, the collective dissonance compelled me to deviate from the well-established lane that had long been followed. Rambling through an unfamiliar jaunt in my smoking course, I rolled forth, clueless as to where this curious bend in the pavement would ultimately take me.
So, as I reviewed other forum members responses to the question at hand, my own recollection fell upon this quaint little story of personal transition. Instinctively I recognized that it was along this alternative route, that I stumbled upon my most pivotal discovery in piping. One so significant, that as a smoker, my existence was materially changed forever.
Irrefutably the most noteworthy unearthing was in fact my first non-aromatic blend, Peter Stokkebye’s PS306 English Oriental Supreme. Being a considerable departure from the status quo, this finding proved to be a critical catalyst that jarred loose the arresting compliancy of aromatic ennui, while propelling me boldly into the expanded wonders of true piping experience.
Suffering as I did from the incapacity due to a chasm devoid of knowledge, just the label of an “English” blend met with some trepidation on my part. Although the B&M shopkeeper made this specific recommendation given my stated objective to experience “real” tobacco, in my mind, clearly this complex recipe of Cyprian Latakia, colorfully flushed Orientals, Mexican Burley, Bright Virginia and Black Cavendish was intentionally crafted for the enlightened and polished smoker, which was not me. Yet as I pensively ogled the jar housing a speckled compote of golden-brown-black luscious ribbon-cut tobaccos the brilliance of its showing was just too striking to dismiss. Stokkebye’s mixture was a classy matrixed configuration of choice varietals more involved than any I had yet encountered
Catching a solid registration of PS306’s bold and spicy fragrance, I was overwhelmed by its character. Its spirit stood as one of the most enchanting essences I had yet encountered. Having never experienced Latakia, the classically bold barbequed, vinegar, smoky incensed aroma threw me back in a glazed stupor frankly. With additional inhales, the blend tendered a passively sweet, yet tarty, pungent earthy floral spice pitching from the Oriental/Turkish. Underneath this extravagant forward perfume, I gathered a faint grassy woodiness as the cordial meld of Virginia and Burley appeased themselves on the bottom.
What a powerful and primal scent this blend carried. My thoughts began to race on how commanding its true character would be when smoked and whether I had the fortitude to withstand the effects. Convinced by opening my mind to the salesman’s suggestion, I decided to give it a try and with that the culturing of my present-day smoking passion found its official genus.
Of interest, as I loaded my first bowl of this English mixture, I observed the level of optimum moisture. Characteristically this blend chartered drier with a lovely textural feel as compared to goopy mess that I was so accustomed to. English Oriental Supreme had a refined and supple nature. Packing the pipe, I discovered how nicely the cut ribbons elegantly dropped and thoroughly hugged the entire concavity of the bowl.
Looking back, I recognize that with the striking of that initial charring flame, the future development and expansion of my palate thus began. Initially the flavor uncovered was so strong and brazen that I was rather bewildered. I must laugh at myself as I know now that English Oriental Supreme is categorically a medium-bodied, mild smoking experience. The humor of the Latakia and Oriental was utterly provocative to my then sheltered self. However, I felt hopelessly captivated by its dazzling magnitude, a constant virtue that has continued to blossom since.
Immediately I surmised that this English substance was radically different. The cloud of thick smoke that was produced was exceptionally mellow and creamy in its attributes. Surprisingly, the taste was energized with its vividly layered and shifting in composition. At the time, a remedial level of sophistication barred me from the ability to properly articulate what that meant. With progressive conditioning, I suitably adapted to a more discerning smoking acumen and am now able to clarify that which I initially discovered. Specifically, the overall taste profile was framed by a smooth passively sweet sharpness while projecting vibrant flourishes of exotic spices and smoky woodiness.
Namely, PS306 offered a celebrated Oriental forward smoking experience. The Oriental/Turkish strains presented a leading spice that was floral, very vegetal/piney, woody, pungent, seeming to trail off with harmonious mock that was of soured mushroom-lichen nature. Being a Cyprian virgin, at first the Latakia seemed outrageously potent, musty, and indelicate to me. Yet within the blend, the strain was actually quite approachable with a well-bred rendering of smoked incense that was bounded by a rich toasty woodiness circulating as a secondary influence.
Consistently at the base of the flavor, I noted a lemony citrus grass-like nuance that I would learn naturally emanates from the native Bright Virginia. As the accents of the blend moved around exquisitely, of note was an undulating and bracing woodiness trickling through apparently from the Mexican Burley. The character of which reminded me of the unique distinction Mexican grown cigar leaves tend to possess, that being a deep earthiness and darkness in tone. Additionally, I was able to sense the gentle taste of a submissive sweetness that was reminiscent of diluted corn syrup, like an applied casing to what must have been the Cavendish leaves.
I found that the tobacco burns exceptionally cool and offered no evidence of any harshness or tongue discomfort, a decisive shift from all my temperamental aromatics. As I gazed at the impressive plume of expended smoke, a bold and venerable aroma tantalized my senses. Never had I experience such an honorable odor. The room was quickly masked by a perfume modeling a sour tartness pillowed in pungently spiced deep timber. What was more the eccentric scent of smoky incense and charred fire was a new incredible development. Savoring this newfound pleasure, I basked in the essence of PS306 as it hung tightly to the perimeter.
So, as I am sitting here about to take in my first cup of coffee, today being like every other day, I must smile. With esteemed satisfaction, the ritualistic morning greeting by this most faithful companion blend has been duly queued. A daily encounter that has been as consistent as clockwork for some eighteen-plus years following the moment of chance discovery. And though my narrative is passive in tense, I can honestly say the assessment of this wonderful blend back then mirrors the English Oriental Supreme of the present day.
By and large, this blend was my proverbial gateway into expanded piping. Thankfully the roadway now seems to be endless many years later. PS306 served as a pinnacle discovery in maturing my current knowledge base while honing my overall tasting sensitivity of native tobaccos, bottom-line. Although richer, stronger, and more complex mixtures do exist, with all first loves, my respect for Stokkebye’s PS306 English Oriental Supreme blend will only continue to deepen as time rolls onward. The lessons that it bestowed upon me were meaningful and game changing. Therefore, I regard this blend not only as the most impactful personal discovery but ultimately as my most cherished mentor.

For some reason, I put down my pipes and pipe smoking for about 5 years. In November my wife went away for a weekend visit I decided to fire up a bowl of some H&H, Larry’s blend. It was good! Flash forward 6 weeks and I’ve ordered about 3lbs of new tobacco. This ES- EOS blend is fantastic. Starts off buttery and sweet, finishes spiced and leathery. Burns great, a newbie like me only needed a few relits to keep the deep rich smoke flowing! Perfect with morning coffee. It has renewed my interest in the fine art of pipe smoking and relaxation. It’s sold out but will buy and store some more when it’s available.

This blend does allow the orientals to be a little more forward than most English blends, if smoked slowly. They have a dry woody note that reminds me of something between Cedar and Cyprus a slight smokiness with a light spice and that sour note I love from them. The lat. is lightly smokey and sweet and competes with the orientals for which is prominent. The black cav is sweet and has a vanilla top note that goes with a slight note of brown sugar. The burley and VA's are really not that noticeable for me. The blend when smoked slowly left me with the feeling that something was missing it just is not full, it is muted for lack of a better way to describe it. It lacks any depth or complexity. However, if you push this blend the black cav takes over and all you will get is the vanilla/brown sugar, which is too sweet as it is. So if you puff quickly you will miss what this blend can offer, which is limited as it is. It will not bite and the nic is closer to the mild end to me.

There's a lack of Virginia flavor and an inadequate amount of Latakia, especially as compared to Proper English. The Cavendish and Burley don't do much, although I suspect the Burley adds a little strength to what would otherwise be a lightweight. It's missing the kick from some Turkish or Balkan sun-cured.
If you want something this light on the Latakia and this anonymous with the VA, Durbar would be a far better option.
Stokkebye makes some very good English blends, so it's easy to forgive them for a miss like English Oriental Supreme.

I don't know if my palate is sophisticated enough to describe the taste of tobacco in the kinds of terms I read in the reviews on this site. As with wine I cannot pick out specific flavors such as "nutty", or with a type of fruit, or grass etc. I can only speak to the pleasure of the taste and how the tobacco "works" in the pipe and during the smoke. English Oriental is a ribbon cut blend of Latakia, Virginia, burley and black cavendish. It presents itself as a mixture of light and dark strands of leaf with the smell of smoke and tobacco. The moisture level of the bulk purchase I made is perfect. The tobacco loads well and takes a light well. It burns clean and gives a wonderful cool smoke. After the initial light the taste of the latakia and the virginias is lovely. The burley gives the blend a good base and the cavendish is not forward giving the blend a distinct English feel. I found that a slow draw worked best as the blend burns quickly. The pipe I used had a small to medium sized bowl and the smoke was finished in less than forty minutes. That is faster than I am used to. I am not sure if it was due to the fact that the blend burns quickly or if I was pushing it due to the good flavor and pleasant draw I was getting. At the end of the session I was pleased with the tobacco and remarked to myself that the experience was excellent. I highly recommend this blend to anyone who appreciates the taste of tobacco. It is an easy smoke that leaves you free to let your mind wander to wherever you need to go. <*)(((((((((><

A mild English blend that is quite tame on the Latakia. Tin notes of a typical English, the tobacco is crimp cut thin ribbons. Lights and packs very well, easy going all day light English. I didn't find this tobacco to have much depth or complexity at first, but it seems the more I smoke it, the better it gets. At the middle to end of the bowl, you can detect some nuttiness from the burley addition. As others have stated, this is a great beginner blend to introduce your palate to Oriental/English blends.

A stock English, but a very nice one.
It should not be considered as a rival to Black House, Magnum Opus, Samovar, Penzance, British Woods or Ironsides. Those are higher quality and should be considered so. This is more of a more easy going smoke with less nuance and less complexity in the flavour. Its also lighter in the strength department.
However, its very good for what it is. Those afore mentioned are 4 star English smokes, this is a 3. Nice latakia hit, good warm Virginia and Orientals which come in down the bowl, good rich smoke and very easy to manage and low maintenance.
I personally couldnt detect much from the Cavendish. I was hoping it would have that sweet tinge from Black Mallory, but I couldnt get it. Maybe need to dry it out more next time.
For an all day English that is easy, hassle free and doesnt bite at all and isnt a pain to maintain, you cant go wrong.

This is a solid English, or is it an Oriental with an attitude? However one classifies this, I found it to be very good. The blend lit well and one could taste the virginias,Orientals and the Latikia right away. Slow smoking this odiferous delight, brought out more of the Orientals and viginias. I found this to be a delight because the Latikia was subdued and played well with the other tobaccos. Like so many of Stokkebye blends, this is an excellent smoking value. I give this a strong reccomedation for both flavor and value

After extolling the virtues of Stokkebye's Proper English, it was recommended that I try English Oriental Supreme, and I am glad I did. It is a rounder, sweeter, and more complex blend when compared to Proper English. And while the actual strength of the tobacco could leave one wanting, I've never had a problem with it. If I am going on a hike or to a festival, anywhere where I'm only going to pack one tobacco for an all-day smoke, there is a overwhelming chance that English Oriental Supreme is the tobacco in my pouch.

For the most part a good blend. Aroma and flavor is definately to my liking. Was just a little too spicy for my taste. I prefer cornell&diehl orient express as it has the same aroma and flavor just not as spicy.

A medium-flavored blend with a pleasant leather spice on top. I can see where some detect a "soapy" flavor although to my mind it instead comes across as peppercorn. Overall this is an interesting, gentle, and cheap smoke. I will add though that the last quarter of the bowl can take on an ashy, pasty taste if you smoke it too quickly. At a moderate rate it tastes fine the whole way through and will burn down to ash.

This is a well-balanced, flavorful blend with an especially creamy mouthfeel. Like American English blends it has burley, but in contrast to most, it doesn’t have perique so the Turkish is easy to pick out, although the presence is less strong than the name might suggest. The stoved cavendish and virginias add sweetness. It’s sweeter than Dunhill Standard, for example. Absolutely well-behaved, no bite; good burning qualities. Echo sentiments of jmartindale. This could be tinned to sell for much more; a splendid mixture that could be an all-day smoke. Edited on 2/2022 to add a fourth star.

This blend is one of my favorite English/Oriental blends so far. The "tin" aroma (though I bought mine bulk in a bag) is musty & earthy, with a slightly sweet background. The moisture level is nice straight off, and the cut helps make it easy-packing.
The smoke upon lighting is cool and thick, fueled by the Latakia without being overpowering, and the Orientals (I guess in this case, the burley/cavendish mix) help give it a full-bodied character. The bowl smoked to the bottom with two relights, and left a fine medium-gray ash. I ended up filling my go-to jar with it.
In my experience, Stokkebye tobaccos are very high quality, and this is no exception. I have tried this and English Luxury from PS, and found that I tend to prefer this blend a bit more, probably because it is a little milder and more rounded in flavor than the Luxury, which is more Latakia-driven. That being said, I still would like to get my hands on some Bull's-Eye Flake in the near future to see how that stacks up.

A nice light English mixture. The pouch smells of latakia and other sweetness and that translates to the first light. From first light to the very end of the bowl you taste Latakia with a bit of Oriental spice and some Virginias coming in edgewise to say a word or two here and there.
Not a very complex smoke but if I'm looking for a standard English mixture taste, this is what I would consider.

Pouch: Moderately moist. Smell latakia, some other pleasant fragrance, must be from the cavendish, either chocolate or vanilla.
Flame: Burns well, lots of medium body smooth dry smoke. No harshness, slight nose tingle. No tongue bite. Mild taste.
Side stream: Smooth, fragrant, but dry smoke. Slight nose tingle. Seems to have a slight floral smell.
Down Bowl: Stays dry, no bitterness. Subtle but sweet taste of the virginia and cavendish, floral overtone from the latakia that is refreshing, almost like a menthol cigarette. Chocolate overtones, similar to nugate with latakia added. Little wetness in pipe. Few relights necessary. Mild flavor for the morning. Need quite to enjoy the subtle flavor. Pipe was damp at end of bowl. NOT a smoke to rush. Nice room note. No tongue bite.
Aftertaste: Tingle of Latakia, slightly peppery. Astringent with a slight bitterness. Tongue bite if smoked day after day. Tobacco flavor on tongue. Flavor in nose is chocolate light tobacco. If it seems ashy clean your pipe.
Conclusion: Great light english with black cavendish sweetness. Smoke with a sweet coffee. This is mild, a morning relaxation smoke. Overall I find I prefer latakia with a virginia base but enjoy this in the Florida summer heat. Lighter in taste than Count Polaski or Squadren Leader.
09/10 UPDATE: I find this leaves a metalic aftertaste with an ashy pasty feel in my mouth (burly mouth). Will toss the remainder and not buy again.

After trying PS Balkan Supreme and being very impressed with the taste and quality, and looking for something a bit lighter, I bought some EOS. I enjoy a lighter and spicier tobacco in the morning with my coffee. Man, did this hit the spot. I like it much better than EMP. In the bag it is dark brown, with many light multi-coloured speckles. When I smelled it in the bag I thought it was going to be more heavy on the latakia than is the case. The flavor is very complex. It packs and burns well, never getting hot. It smokes down to a a very fine white ash. I have tried it all of my pipes, and it just keeps getting better. The wow! factor for me is how something that starts out leathery and salty can end so sweet. Peter Stokkebye is putting out some fine weed.

While I have not directly reviewed Stokkebye's English Luxury here, I did do so indirectly under Finck's English and Finck's Istanbul, both of which (at least right now) are Stokkebye's English Luxury. Yesterday I dropped into Jernigan's Tobacco Village in Mt. Lebanon, PA to look around and found some of this English Oriental Supreme. I bought a couple of ounces to try in my quest for a new, affordable everyday blend and to compare with the other from Stokkebye that I already own 2 pounds of. My impressions are in line with Deadmenspipes on this one. It is definitely better than English Luxury although at first light it has some of the astringent dryness of English Luxury. I too ran into a soapy taste about 1/3 into the bowl, but it disappeared after a short while. Last night I tried a second bowl...ditto report. This morning a third and found it a bit better - acceptable, but not great. Perhaps there were some residuals left in my pipe from the Luxury blend? Quest continues.

After reading most of the reviews here, I decided to give this blend a try. The aroma seeping from the unopened bag was wonderful - and when I opened the bag, I let it stay open for awhile, just to fill the room with the marvelous, complex olfactory delight. There is little connection, however, between the aroma of the tobacco in the bag versus once it is burning in the pipe. It lights well and stays lit to the end of the bowl with minimal relighting (I used the 3-stage packing recommended by another reviewer). Nothing left but clean greyish-white ash at the end. The first word that popped into my mind when I took the first few puffs: "soapy." After reading all the glowing reviews here, I must say I was slightly disappointed. On the positive side, there is no bite, and the flavor did improve about halfway through the bowl; however, it was nothing to really get excited about. It is an okay smoke, and one I will probably have once in awhile until my supply is gone. You cannot complain about the price though - it is cheap enough. Who knows? Maybe I will grow to love it and reorder. I doubt it, though.
UPDATE: This one has grown on me. After trying several other "English" blends, I found myself appreciating this Stokkeby's blend more and more. A plus is that it costs much less than the others, although that has nothing to do with my increased regard for the blend. It is definitely better than many others in all categories, and I have increased my recommendation from two stars to three.

While tempted to previously place reviews in this wonderfully useful database, I've chosen -- until now -- to wait until I've developed further as a pipe smoker.
I'm still quite new to pipes, having smoked cigars on a regular basis the past three years up until about two months ago, when I rediscovered my pipe collection with heretofore unrealized fervor.
Anyhow, I picked my pipes back up as I'd left them: quite fond of English blends and not crazy about aromatics and "lighter" blends. And, as of this initial writing, I still favor more bold flavor and more nicotine kick. I managed to track down a local tobacconist with a little remaining Dunhill Early Morning Pipe and Nightcap (Orlick, yes, but it still does the trick for me). Despite experimenting with other blends in the same ballpark -- Abingdon and Squadron Leader, most notably -- I remained true to EMP and Nightcap.
And then I picked up an ounce each of Stokkebye's Proper English and the subject of this review -- English Oriental Supreme -- at another local tobacconist. I found I immediately enjoy both immensely. But especially EOS.
As a recovering cigar hound, as previously stated, I'm more fond of bolder blends and with more depth of flavor. And this does the trick nicely. It successfully combines the traditional tobacco flavor profile with a nice, subtle sweetness. And, while I'm still too new at this to expound on the relative levels of the Latakia, Virginia and whatnot, I can certainly appreciate a quality flavor.
I've frankly struggled as of late to find a blend that provides the level of flavor, puff for puff, that I crave. So far, this is the best I've found. I'm very tempted to rush in and give this FOUR STARS, but -- once again -- being relatively new, I don't feel I should rate this one "top of the pops" just yet.
But it's currently tops with me.
Will it stay as such? Stay tuned...

This is a truly enjoyable and well priced English like blend; Peter Stokkebye at his best. A bit more complex than English luxury, English Oriental Supreme has an interesting taste profile largely due to the interplay of the Georgian Vriginias and the Oriental and Latakia tobaccos. It is more complex than one might expect from such a relatively inexpensive tobacco (As the prices go up, the blend is beginning to lose that distinction.) and a pleasure to smoke. I give this a 4 stars for both price and taste.
PS The additional cavendish does not get in the way but adds a slight twist to the taste. Rest assured that this blend is more English/Balkan than aromatic. As far as Peter Stokkebye's English/Balkan products, I would say this is second to Balkan Supreme but sometimes that depends on the time of day.

I love the way this blend smells in the bag - smoky, earthy. I'm tempted to buy an extra 2 oz. bag to use as a sachet to throw under my pillow. I discovered this blend during a trip to my local tobacconist a few months ago. After sampling other blends I thought would be similar, such as Skiff Mixture and a few bulk offerings from McClelland's, I have returned to EOS to enjoy its mild, smoky flavor. I have enjoyed a couple of bowls of this tobacco this afternoon, and have decided this needs to be in my regular rotation. It is an excellent all day smoke, and a great value in bulk as well. Highly recommended.

This review is based on one bowl, my first.
The overall flavor is IMHO Squadron Leader "lite".
There is a very nice overall oriental tone to the smoke. It is ethereal, not heavy. The flavor does build a bit to the bottom of the bowl but never becomes overwhelming.
I did not notice any perceptible amount of nicotine.
I believe there is some flavoring to help tie everything together, but is not obvious, it stays in the deep background.
I give this three stars for now.
(My four star tobaccos are Squadron Leader, Westminster, Full Virginia Flake.)

A very good Englihs Blend. The black cavendish doesn't show up in the flavor, but moderates the room not which is a big plus for me. The light is easy and it burns to the bottom of the bowl with a fine graty ash...A blend with quality way above it's cost....a big winner in my estimation...

I will qualify this review by noting that I bought this at a cigar shop, from a bulk jar that was who knows how old, and may not even be the right jar.
Smells like a balkan blend, but it is like that in smell only. The primary flavor I get is burley, with a hint of virginia and a whisp of latakia. Cannot taste any orientals in the "oriental" blend; not a good sign. Very very light in flavor, and overall just bland. I honestly don't have much to say about it. Perhaps if I ever source it from a more reputable store I will update this review, but currently nothing is making me wish to purchase this again.

My initial impression of this blend was okay. It had a decent mild to medium-ish flavor that is consistent. But unfortunately gives me tongue bite almost as bad a Mac Baren blends.
After closing in on 5 years of age, this blend has not changed other then the flavors are almost completely muted.

I found this mundane a "bland-blend", for want of the flavor and fragrance one should expect. A dash too light a mixture, perhaps? After 10 tediously unending bowls, I tossed the balance in the nearest trash can, sadly wasting money and the hopes that it aroused. Back to my Balkan Sasieni, still a mild smoke after all, but –unlike this variety- richly rewarding.

I bought this blend bulk. I did not buy much. I am glad. This blend is not for me. It does have some good points, but I am troubled by its faults. It does indeed smoke cool. It is smooth. The room note should not offend. However, the black cavendish does not work for me. The addition of this tobacco shrouds the other tobaccos in the blend. I also miss the presence of oriental tobacco.
If a mild cool blend is what you seek, try this. But if you are seeking a traditional english mixture, such as Dunhill Standard Mixture Medium, take a pass.
