pipesandcigars.com Old Lodge
(3.33)
A blend of the finest grade Latakia's combined with Stoved Virginias, and a hint of Balkan. This is a heavy blend perfect for cool nights with a snifter of fine Port.

I have been smoking Old Lodge for probably a year. It is a velvety blend that is smooth and smoky with a hint of plum (i.e., raisin). While seemingly contradictory, the flavour is rich yet rather subdued. This is another solid choice from Habana Premium Cigar Shoppe (PipesandCigars.com) in Albany, New York (USA). This is a very dark weed with chucks of Latakia flake and a medium percentage of Virginia to add some colour. Old Lodge stays a bit moist leading me to believe that there is something added that probably contributes to that plum nuance. Still, this is a good choice recommended for those who enjoy English/Balkan blends as I do.

Very nice latakia note...a trifle thick cut and needs a good rubbing. A bit slow to take fire.
No bite, etc. as with all such blends. Thankfully, I detect no burnt raisen or bruised plum silliness in the proceedings.
Just a nice slow-smoking tolerant latakia English-type. A bit of experience with preparing to load and loading would go far to reducing the few nagging comments.
Love the name, by the way. Quite appropos.

This is another very smoky blend from Habana. The tobacco is very dark roasted and coarse in texture. It has a very strong smoked aroma out of the package. It does require some rubbing out though, in order to keep it lit and minimize the tamping. Once lit, it burns very slow and cool and all the way to the bottom. Its loaded with latakia flavor all the way thru the pipe and the price is very nice as well. Probably not an all day smoke, but excellent for the fireside or campsite. A little too much latakia for my tastes.......I'll give it 3-stars.

This dark Latakia-brimming mixture receives a solid recommendation from me.
While the Professor detects a plum flavoring I taste something akin to sweet Cavendish in there somewhere. It makes the blend a tad wet but the ash burns white.
The oriental flavors seemlessly blend into the heavy dose of Lat.
Images evoked include burning legions marching across a scorched wasteland newly-conquered - stopping to loot and drink with relieved infernal merriment.
