Milan Tobacconists Jefferson Street

(3.18)
Named after the street our shop has been on for over 100 years, Jefferson Street is a medium strength sliced burley blend with a smattering of Turkish and cavendish tobaccos. This blend offers a rich, nutty flavor with a slight hint of rum raisin and a moderately sweet finish. Nice room aroma.

For years I was against anything flavored. I wanted tobacco, nothing but tobacco, and by God I was not ever going to be one of those aro smoking sissies.

I'm older now and cling to my biases less firmly than I used to. I think it started with H&H Derby Club, a solid codger Burley with a hint of fruit that didn't overwhelm the tobacco. I enjoyed it and it allowed me to drop my prejudice and consider other tobaccos that had some added flavoring.

Jefferson Street. I consider it an almost aro, but if it had one more drop of flavoring in it it'd be a full blown aromatic. This blend is kind of like Revelation minus the Latakia. There are a handful of decent, mild smoking tobaccos here, and they are absolutely hosed down in a delicious rum raisin flavor. The flavoring does overwhelm the tobacco, but not always, so the tobacco is still present. I think it's what makes this blend work so well. Great rum raisin flavoring that never gets wonky or bitter, and the tobacco is present and makes itself known to varying degrees at all times.

This strikes me as a crossover blend. I think if you like codger Burleys you'll find it interesting and not offensive, and if you like aromatics it might be a gateway for you to get into some more tobacco-centric blends.

This stuff is pretty wet, but I don't dry it. I do reserve my enjoyment of this blend to a single pipe on my rack, as I'm sure it'll ghost. I really like it, a lot. It is absolutely unique among all the blends I enjoy, and even though I am only giving it 3 stars I consider it a favorite. I ordered 3 pounds of it after my initial sample if that is any indication what I think about it.
