I was lucky to snatch a tin from 02/2012 of Evening Rise... when I cracked the tin a loud "ppppfffffffft" sound came, louder than usual with fresh C&D tins. I almost got a heartattack... it smelled so damn acrid and pungent... an stinging scent came out of it. i guess the age must've developed some gases inside the tin. Sour, somewhat fruity, almost like someone had thrown-up.. no joke! The description says "repelling the mosqitoes" about a fresh tin.. a tin with 6 years of age on it will not only repell, but KILL those mosqitoes! ;-D Even after leaving the tin open for a day the scent didn't dissaper, I guess its just the aged tobaccos that give this smell and not only some gases that have developed over the years!

Oh boy.. I thought the smoke must be horrible considering the scent...nobody on here metioned a punget, stinging tin note...quite the contrary! But to my surprise it was perfectly fine and very tasty! The intriguing tin design paired with the decent strenght and full-bodied, rich taste makes it a soothing smoking experience for the evening hours.

The bowls start with somewhat muddled flavors that get more refined as you progress through the bowl. It's very earthy, pleasantly smoky and has sour-fruity nuances that actually remind me of Perique! There's only a whisper of sweetness, the smoke is richly tart and spicy. Halfway through a most pleasant nutty-sweet quality begins to develop that is consistent till the end of the bowl. The Turkish adds some smooth ethereal backbone to the dry smoke as well.

All i all this is very tasty and thank god that the vile scent from the tin note doesn't transfer into the smoke at all! This'll definetly repell the mosqitoes but please your palate, as promised in the description! But beware: A aged tin will KILL the mosquitoes and repell the wife! 😉

**Update** regarding the vile-ish smell: I cracked my tin of GLP Gaslight (which is also produced and tinned by C&D) and found the exact same smell of "somebody has puked in the tin" with it, just a bit less intense. The only ingridients they have in common are the Turkish and the Latakia, and mytin of Gaslight is from 2016. So it must be the Turkish or Latakia producing that smell, and maybe the aging process plays into it. Still... wonderful smoke!

I love this stuff. The tin note is very smoky, both from the latakia and what I suspect is a nice helping of dark fired burley. The latakia makes it's presence known at the first light and then settles down firmly into the background. The latakia sets a great backdrop for the two main players: burley and turkish. These two seem to weave back and forth, taking turns at the forefront. It burns down a bit fast, but smokes smooth and biteless. Evening Rise is a bit of a sleeper in the C&D pantheon, but is most definitely worth a try.

Enjoyable mild-medium burley/latakia/Oriental blend. Very balanced with subtle notes of the Latakia and Orientals. The burley and Virginias round out this complex and delightful smoke. No detectable topping. Mild-medium strength with a rich medium taste. A nice blend to smoke and contemplate the various different tastes. Very smooth mouth feel with no lingering after taste or mouth coating. The burleys and Virginias keep the burn going with no relights, burns to nice clean ash to the bottom. Might be a good blend to recommend to a newbie who wants to explore beyond aromatics. Recommended

Somewhat muddled flavor-wise in the beginning, but cool and smooth. Latakia gets the lead on the palate, burley at the exhale, with a nice spicy note on the retrohale. Complete tasting experience for the first half. Second half, the flavor and (especially) strength ramp up. Never harsh or biting, but strength predominates. Burley comes through at this point, when carefully sipped. Re-light on the home stretch brings out more of the burley. I'll probably stick to good cigars when fishing to repel the bugs, as I'd have to concentrate on not overdoing the draws with a full pipe of ER. 3 stars.

Good and full flavour. This blend is easy to smoke and hence is good for beginners too.

An interesting blend. I'm of the I mainly smoke aromatics, and while I don't know if it qualifies as an english, I liked it. The tin aroma is like that of a nice woodfire, whith little bits of spices and other pleasantries added in. The first half of the bowl was delicious, with the little bits of other non Virginias would catch and add to the already deliciousness. The only reason that I'm giving it three stars is because during the last quarter of the bowl it started to really get angry and bit me rather unpleasantly. However, given that the majority was fine I'm sure this'll work its way into my rotation.
