Boswell Pipes & Tobacco Sweet and Mild
(2.94)
A Golden Cavendish blend along with overtones of toasted Cherry. It is very smooth and has an excellent room aroma. History of this blend being born is back in 1998, Dan along with Russ Hess a customer that turned into a good friend. They worked on this blend till they got it just right. Now this is Russ's favorite all day smoke and many others who have discovered Sweet and Mild. Customers who smoke Sweet and Mild are often asked what is that sweet aroma ?

The cherry is sweet, and the dominant flavor, but its quiet. I don't taste coffee, or whiskey, but theres something trying to imitate them; what I would best describe as a kinda bakery spice aftertaste that I find in all of Boswell's aros. There are also notes of chocolate in the room note.
Boswell's know what they're doing with aromatics, and they named Sweet & Mild appropriately. It's the perfect blend to ignore in a social situation. It smells great, burns fantastically, and I like the plumes of smoke it gives off. There's nothing bad about this blend, but there's nothing memorable about it either. 2 1/2 stars

Certainly on the mild side in terms of strength, but not so sweet on the palate, and not very aromatic either. I don't get any coffee or whisky; perhaps just a slight hint of cherry. Not bad, but not very memorable either.

this tobacco reminds me of one you would smoke in a good state of mind, remembering all those perfect smelling blends that burned your tongue to a cinder when fist starting to smoke a pipe.this one delivers, with no bite, even trying to make it bite. soft overtones tease your nose as you ,think "maybe i do like cherry flavored tobacco".a good quality tobacco for new and old pipe smokers.it grows on you the more you smoke it.pleasure and relaxation is what we seek and this entry makes it happen. no fuss or mess. sweet and mild by the BOSWELLS.

This is another fine accomplishment from the Master Tobacconists at Boswell. I am fond of the room aroma of a pipe store and this replicates it to an art. The room note was amazing, the casing was medium. No tounge bite...with a great taste. My wife loves this one for its aroma. Great blend...in my top favorites of all time.

This is a nice mild tobacco.Upon opening the pouch you can smell the sweet aroma, almost tea like. This tobacco packs well ,lights well, burns well to a fine ash.No tongue bite at all.To me it smelt nutty/leathery.Has a nice aroma for non smokers. If your a big aromatic smoker it may not be for you,but if you want a mild nice smelling, easy going tobacco, then give it a try.

J.M. Boswell has long been famous for his aromatic tobacco blends and Sweet and Mild keeps that tradition. If you are an aromatic fancier, or maybe even if you aren't, you should give this one a try.
S/M is made up of dark brown and black cavendish cut pieces and is an attractive tobacco in the pouch. The tobacco is not sticky and doesn't seem to be overloaded with PG, although I'm sure there is some there. It doesn't have the overwhelming pouch aroma of some aromatics, indicating it hasn't been overcased.
Upon putting match to tobac, your first impression is of a pleasant sweetness that is not overbearing or cloying. This continues until mid-bowl, when the sweetness gradually fades and you are left with the taste of the base tobaccos. At least some of it seems to be coming from VAs, though there's also some burley there. It's more of a tangy taste than a sweet one.
S/M lights pretty readily and needed an average amount of relights for an aromatic, which means a few more than other types of blends. It doesn't leave your pipe goopy and only a small amount of dottle is left in the bottom of the bowl. S/M is a pretty economical tobacco. It sells for $1.75/oz. or $28/lb.
Scores for Sweet and Mild: taste-16 of 20; lighting and burn- 7 of 10; value- 8 of 10. 31 points gets it a good *** rating.
