Got some bulk from smokingpipes.con and cellared for two months. I'm still not a huge fan of English style or oriental tobaccos, but I found this to be much more mild and tolerable than the few I've tried. The addition of Virginia, which I've come to appreciate for its sweetness when smoked carefully and kept relatively cool, well tempers the smoky Latakia and enhances the exotic spice of the oriental. As always, be careful in public. Sideways comments about "exhaust" have been heard. That aside, I like this blend, but will save it for autumn as its not suited to a hot, muggy New England day.

This is full flavored oriental and dark flavored tobaccos. This flavor is complex and is difficult to describe . The orientals seem to be a Samsun and Kate ring mix. The virgins see to be reds with some middle belt brights.

I like the standard option with cavendish cut burley (Odessa) a bit more, but this tobacco is no mean feat either. The red Virginia combines quite well with the latakia adding sweet and bready undernotes. The Oriental leaf is spicy and tangy toning down the strength and flavour profile. As for the perique, it is not overtly present, but you get hints here and there. Red Odessa is a light old-school English blend, whereas Odessa is just an American blend with latakia, and I recommend trying both to compare notes accordingly. 3.5 stars.

An interesting smoke. I will definitely revisit this during the third watch. A lot going on here. Smooth with orientals and some latakia. Velvety. Leaves me wanting another bowl, but it's late and time to hit the bunk. Smoke on...

I’ve come to very much enjoy C&D’s English/Balkan blends and I think they are probably the best producer of such blends in the US. This one is a well balanced, Lat forward English Mixture that has a nice sweetness from the VA’s. Great all day smoke, especially in the winter months. As good as this one is, I wouldn’t say it’s a fovorite if mine in the C&D line up, I can think of a handful of other English blends of theirs that I would reach for before I reach for this one, that being said, I won’t have any problem finishing off my 4 ounces of this, I just doubt that I’ll replace it when it’s gone. If you like a full bodied English blend, ya can’t go wrong giving this one a whirl, it might just fit your fancy!

Red Odessa is a surprise! A latakia blend with oriental in the lead and supported by tangy virginia and perique. We see a lot of blends in C+D use burley and sometimes they work, sometimes not. Fortunately, RO doesn't have any and illustrates that they can make classic English blend as well. By the way, the tin/bag note is excellent with fermented fruity sweetness, which is not usually found in a Balkan blend.
