A great indoor wintertime blend. I do not seem to have as much moisture in my 2oz pouch as some have stated, and i I didn't have any burn issues due to excess moisture.

The pouch aroma is that classic vanilla cavendish smell, reminiscent of the old Churchill's tobacconist in the local mall. There were a few stems and sticks in my pouch, but fairly easy to pick out.

Packs well, initial lighting is no trouble. I smoked through this 2oz fairly quickly. No tongue bite, smokes cool with just a little leftover moisture in the heel of the pipe. The vanilla room note is a definite crowd pleaser. Always received compliments on this blend, even from the wife!

Sutliff’s Black and Golden Cavendish B27. Often found in many B&M’s across the country under cleverly fashioned aliases, this Black Cavendish, Burley and Virginia compote is tastefully flavored (officially) with an optimum letting of rich vanilla. My two sense is the blender further sauced up the recipe with a kiss of gentle honey and supple cream as well. B27 is a becoming mixture tempered by a coarse ribbon cut mesh of what else, bold black and golden hued quality tobaccos (ala my alma mater ole Purdue). Notes of sugary creamed vanilla and warm honey provide a tasteful dance over a tarty original zest coming from the base components, as a pleasing aroma boosts from the pouch. I rather like its presentation straight up. With the flavor, much of the note pouch essence does consistently carry through to the actual taste. Namely, a pleasurable melody of vanilla sweetness, sugary buttered cream and baked honey lead the primary notation. Underlying in equal measure, one captures the base line of brown sugared Burley nuttiness, charred Cavendish spice moving in colorful parade of earthen wood and some quaint mint-like accents, and a highlight of tart tang elicited by the comprising Virginia. Comparatively, Sutliff has arrived at a smartly blended balance between the additives and the native strains. Overall, the taste profile objectively measures as even keeled and quite rounded in contrast for the aromatic genre. Burning with characteristics of a coolness and no chemical sting, Black and Gold produces a mellow and enjoyable feel within the mouth during the smoking session. Ignited the mixture shows itself with a thick and fragrant plume of rich smoke. The immediate smoking area is endowed with a comforting essence of tasteful cooked vanilla cream and zesty charisma of the native tobaccos. Yet another that passes the scrutiny of my wife’s critical acceptance for tolerability.

I’ve been enjoying this blend for a while now and I respect those others don’t necessarily carry an equivalent opinion as my own. Nonetheless, do give it a try if you want to revel in the enjoyment of a delightful and well-crafted aromatic experience.

A "crowd pleaser" for sure - but for those looking for a more satisfying "tobacco" experience, look elsewhere. I received a free pouch of this with a recent tobacco/pipe order. The pouch aroma was similar, but not the same, as Captain Black White and Mac Baren's 7 Seas Regular; a nice vanilla presence without being too cloying. Relatively moist as American aromatics go, but there was no difficulty loading or lighting this offering. I was happy that the chemical presence, or taste, found in so many American aromatics was at a minimum, but present none the less. It smoked relatively dry and without bite, but there was no real tobacco taste to make me want to revisit. All being said, I do give it a 3 star recommendation as it was not at all bad. It certainly has a pleasing room note, and I believe it would be a fine offering for a new pipe smoker to use in getting accustomed to the pleasant past time of pipe smoking.

This blend is one of my favorites. More black than gold, it seems. But, the vanilla casing definitely comes through. Real crowd pleaser, everyone makes comments on how good it smells. I don?t find it sweet at all. Smoke is almost too strong, yet, no tongue-bite. Very smooth! Burns great. Easily a one match bowl! Smokes wet, if packed too tight. It tends to hold and picks up moisture, if stored improperly. I dry it out a bit if it seems too moist, before smoking.
