I have now reviewed at least eight of Carole's tobaccos at P&W and I have yet to find a blend that is not three stars or higher. She uses such high quality tobaccos that whether it's an English blend or an aromatic, the tobaccos simply shine. Gramercy Park is another winner from P&W. After some needed dry time this is a delicious aromatic. There are no fake tastes here. GP is sweet with an underlying taste of spirits that are not nearly as strong in the alcohol department as Rumcake, but enough to let you know that it's there. All of the flavors are very “forward” making for a rich tasting blend. I think her use of two different Cavendish's really makes a difference. I am mainly an English or flake smoker, but there is now a place in my cellar for a pound of this and Gotham Court. P&W IMHO makes some of the best aro's on the market today. Highly Recommended.

The first couple of bowls took a little getting used to. There are very few aromatics in my pipe-smoking history. But I was a little tired of Latakia and I prefer mild tobaccos without a nicotine bite. Now that I have smoked maybe 7 or 8 bowlfuls I can report that it is terrific!

I noticed that the English blends, as good as they are, leave enough smoke in my mustache to bother me. But the smoky residue is much reduced in Gramercy Park. The aromatic flavor is subtle - I can barely taste it - and the tobacco flavor is very enjoyable. Afterwards, I am refreshed, having had a nice time thinking my thoughts, and there is little nicotine after effect. If I'm smoking in my shop the smoke does not linger too long.

I've ordered several other aromatics from Carole. I used to switch back and forth from one manufacturer to another. But Pipeworks and Wilke really deserves a lot of loyalty for their consistent high quality of tobaccos. I'm looking forward to Cherry Cavandish and Rum Cake. Thanks, Carole

Unlike most pipers, my first love was Balkan Sobranie, not an aromatic ,and I stuck with it for more pipes than I care to count. As I grew older I found my love of smoking old saddles diminishing while I find I love smoking peaches more. Now I find something like The Soylent Mixture satisfies my need for Latakia and incense just fine. But now I find I like sweeter tobaccos more.

I tried Rich's Grandpa and Tewksbery's Hobbit Weed among others without finding just the right combination of good tobacco and sweetness. With Gramercy Park, I found just the perfect smoke. This actually is what my grandfather smoked, and now I know why.

There are any number excellent reviews here that describe what I am writing about, but greekthinker puts it best when he write, "what it is, is good. The burleys are first rate and the flavorings whatever they are, are brillant. Sweetness without goo. Cool smoking tobacco that brings hours of bliss without heat.

It never bites, always stay cool, always consistant. I makes me happy.

Always smoke what you like and like it as much as possible. Four stars

There are two types of aromatics. The most common consist of low grade tobacco slathered in synthetic food grade flavorings. They are wet, way too sweet, and when the tobacco flavor does come through, it is awful...

Gramercy Park belongs to a different category entirely. Take good quality leaf and enhance it with liqueur and natural essences, and you have a pipeful of pleasure. Grmercy Park is mildly sweet, and just a little tart, very much like the real fruit it is flavored with. When the tobacco flavor comes through, there are no regrets.

An absolute must for the connoissieur of fine aromatics.

Normally I prefer English, but Gramercy Park (along with Rumcake and Vermont Maple) is one of my favorite aromatics. The flavor and room aroma are both very pleasant, not overpowering. It is also surprisingly cool burning. All of my friends who tried this were hooked. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a good aromatic.

Absolutely great blend! Gramercy Park is one of my favorite aromatic blends. I agree with all the other positive reviews. Great taste, great room smell, no bite, just a pleasure to smoke. Although it is moderate in strength, it has a wonderful complexity in flavor with many levels of taste. It is not a boring smoke. Highly recommended!

Very simply put, this stuff is mild and delicious. You get sweet flavor, tobacco flavor and a nice burn to the bottom of the bowl. A pinnicle of aromatic tobacco. What you smell in the pouch is what you get in the pipe. Pure pleasure !!!

As I sit here smoking this blend, it is very smooth. Upon light up, it fronts a mixture of fruits in the perfect proportions. Very tasty. Not to sweet. There is a flavor I cannot put my finger on but it tastes awesome. Burns exceptionally well. The room aroma is pleasant and not harsh. No doubt this is quality tobacco with hints of?..damn, I don?t? know what! But like the other reviews, ?velvet? like describes it well. Not a true aromatic but if you are an English smoker wafering on the edge of aromatic, this may be a good choice. The addition of liquor flavor is well blended. It?s almost like enjoying a good creamy Irish coffee blend of liquor. All & all, it?s just a good, smooth, velvety smoke. Not to harsh or overwhelming but a great tasting mixture of fruits and liquors.

One of my favorites!

POUCH: Fruity, with sweet vanilla overtones. Mildly nutty as well. Perfect moisture content. PACK: Packs well, fine ribbon. Stays springy. LIGHT:Lights easily using the char plus two method. Burns to a fine white ash. Two more lights usually get me through the bowl. SMOKES: First half is sweet and smooth, vanilla comes through as does the fruity/nutty flavor. Mid-bowl the VA kicks in a little more obviously. Still cool, but with true tobacco flavor. Bottom of the bowl is still cool, although relighting is needed here. Strong VA begins to feature that toasty note I look for. This blend has a small amount of black cavendish which I think enhances the VA quite nicely. Reminds me a little of a finer grade of Capt. Black Gold. TONGUE BITE: Very little. Towards bottom of bowl perhaps a little more due to more relighting. Overall, very cool and dry. ROOM NOTE: Very pleasant, nutty vanilla notes. No complaints from the wife or kids! 🙂 This is a lightly aromatic room note. COMMENTS: Like almost all the Wilkes I have tried, a very pleasant smoke. I like this early in the day or if I am in a small space. It is flavorful, but not overpowering and with the lightness of room note it is a crowd pleaser. This would be a good introductory blend for the novice. It is cased just the right amount and is an easy smoke. A solid three stars!!

Gramercy Park is a wonderful pipe tobacco and, perhaps, the finest blend I have ever had the pleasure to enjoy.

Forty years ago in my late teens after a visit to my Grand Pappy in Newfoundland, I began to smoke a pipe because he smoked a pipe. In the many years since I amassed a small collection of pipes and have smoked nearly every major brand of tobacco from packages of Captain Black Gold to original tins of Bengal Slices and everything in between.

The tobacco that first captured my attention was Lane BCA. Later I swung to University Flake. And with a family connection to the United Kingdom, I soon began a 30-year exploration of every imaginable tin of Latakia-based tobacco. Ten years ago I found then lost the name of an exceptional Latakia-based tin that was extraordinarily rich yet smooth, smokey and creamy and especially pleasing without any bite. I said to myself "that's the perfect tobacco (for me) and I should get more of this." Sadly I didn't pay enough attention at the time to remember the brand. And for the last decade I've been purchasing tin after tin of quality tobaccos in search of that lost memory.

All these years later, I came to learn about Pipeworks & Wilke and ordered a sampler of tobaccos in continued hope of finding a blend that offered the qualities described above. Each of the four pouches were fine, top-grade, creations from the boutique tobacco shop owned and operated by Carole in Vermont. And one -- Gramercy Park -- impressed me with the level of satisfaction only matched twice before in my life.

Gramercy Park is not my lost jewel of tinned Latakia. But it is grander and more satisfying than any of the aromatics or any of the countless English and Balkan blends that constituted my inventory for four decades.

I've come to appreciate that reviews are remarkably personal experiences. And the qualities and satisfaction esteemed by one are almost impossibly meaningless to others. Lucky are we that a site like TobaccoReviews now captures a universe of thoughts and memories about the vast range of old and new tobaccos. I am happy to add my commentary here.

But far be it for me to tell anyone whether the qualities and characteristics that I find so pleasing in Gramercy Park will produce similar responses in others. So I will not try. Yet I will say that Gramercy Park struck this reviewer as one of the three greatest tobaccos I have ever smoked. And for the foreseeable future, Gramercy Park from Pipeworks & Wilke is likely to be the only tobacco I will order and smoke in the years ahead. After 40 years, I once again have found my perfect tobacco and, this time, I intend to remember the name and won't ever forget it.
