Ribbon cut with color all over the map and the heady, fragrant aroma of Syrian latakia. It's really too bad that Syrian is so hard to find, as I prefer it to Cyprian. There was also a grippingly noticeable scent of burley but I detected no Virginia aroma.
In the bowl, this was a spicy, robust blend with huge latakia flavor. Off the top of my head, I can't recall another Syrian/burley blend that I've smoked, so this one was a real treat. The marriage of the two leaves was quite symbiotic and both benefitted from the presence of the other. Syrian latakia is flavorful but kind of thin in body and the burley's... burly offering created a body not usually found in Syrian blends. Oddly enough the Virginia was kind of MIA, not really adding much to the mix. There was a light sweetness underneath but I don't know that I attribute that to Virginia. It tasted more like sweet burley. Overall this is a very worthy blend that I enjoyed and I'd probably stock up on if I could find more.

Not sure if this and English Mixture #8 are one in the same as has been suggested; my tin says Classic English Mix #80 so this is where I'm putting it!
Latakia seems to be the predominant taste here, sitting on top. Burley is very present here also. I don't really notice the Virginia, but I suspect it's there more than I realise. Is there a topping of some sort also maybe? This blend has a peculiar flavor component to it that for some reason reminds me of chewing on a fresh wine cork... I like it. I smell it also in the tin note, but not as much as I taste it in the bowl. The flavors play nicely I think, and the bowl develops a bit of spice similar to the perique effect towards the end. Burley bitter I guess, not unpleasantly so. Seems to be a fair, but not large, amount of vitamin N. Usually had to do a couple relights, but then... I smoked most of this tin before it had much chance to dry out.
You know, I seem to have developed quite the jones for this blend. Good stuff. My only complaint is the price...I just think it's a little overpriced... that's not going to stop me from buying more though.
Overall I give it three stars. The price makes me want to knock a half star off, but my jones makes me want to add an extra half star... we'll just meet in the middle.

Despite their names, English Mixtures No. 7 and 8 are far from a classic English. They're among the lines of "American English", based on the casing and the high proportion of Burley.
While English No. 7 is heavily flavored and a tongue scorcher, No. 8 is a very decent smoke, with no tongue bite and a mild flavoring (similar to No. 7, something like red wine, cocoa and a hint of vanilla). The absence of many different tobaccos in the mixture is another positive note (Orientals + Virginias + Latakia + Burley + Perique + casing = big mess, as demonstrated by No. 7).
Not something to smoke every day, but a nice change of pace if you don't have an open tin of Epiphany or SG Perfection).

Due to the burley, this blend has lots of body and taste. The ribbon cut is not as preferable to #70's cube like cut to me, but that's merely a preference. A nice Americanized English. Overall I like this better than #70 BUT, Preludio is still my favorite.

Serenata (as it is now called), was a Syrian Latakia forward blend with supple supporting Virginia leaf that I found to be quite tasty. There was also a lot of burley leaf in this one that caught be my surprise with its body building support without offering much Burley flavor. The combination somehow worked and I would have loved to lasso a few more of these tins for my cellar. With Syrian now extinct, that ain't gonna happen.

Number 80 is heavy on the Syrian Latakia and provides a lot of smokiness and sweetness. The Virginia is far off in the background and not overly impressive. The Burley in this mixture provides unusual strength for an English style blend. My tin was from 2007 and the aging had smoothed the presentation judging from some of the other reviews and I liked this one just fine.

# 80 in the U.S., now here's the way to go!
Not typical English due to the added burley, this blend has plenty of body and taste for the natural smoker.
In flavor somewhat akin to Robert Lewis' 123, but this is smoother, and no mention is made of any cigar leaf here. Must be the burley that gives it its sweet potato nuttiness aided by sweet virginias to create a round full taste. Not sweet in the aromatic or fruity sense at all (unlike it's lighter brother, #70).
Ribbon cut of various tobaccos including Syrian latakia again. This stuff is available in Europe I here, just not the same grade that Pease used. Again, I do not taste much latakia at all, except as a hint of spice every so often. It must serve to cool the robust burley-virginia combo.
Cool, dry, and full but not too rich; a good evening smoke. Recommended for the straight smoker who wants something more or less full bodied but shy of a full English or balkan.

A suprisingly tasty and good mixture, although it's not strictly "classic english". Syrian latakia, Burley and Bright Virginias. nutty, spicy, smoky and good, especially in big bowls. Not as subtle or refined as GLPease tobaccos, but not to be despised. Quite cheap, in Italy. It burns very well, with little relights. Some ashy taste at times, probably due to the burley.
