(3.07)
A burley, latakia, Virginia, unsweetened black cavendish blend destined to become a popular favorite. My local smoke shop has begun to stock C&D bulk tobaccos, and I purchased 2 oz. of Americana to try. As the previous reviewers have said, this is a decent, reliable, unpretentious American burley blend. The quality of the tobaccos C&D uses are unimpeachable. Americana is easy to pack and light. It is a light, easy smoking tobacco. But, there's just nothing there make Americana stand above many other good burley blends. I would surely smoke Americana if someone offered me a bowl, but I doubt I will buy more.

I’ll keep this short and sweet. Nice pleasant floral notes on the char light, packs nicely after that, but don’t pack to hard or it can easily clog your draft hole. After the 2nd light, a wonderfully woodsy flavor with a hint of mocha coffee, reminding me of sitting around the campfire. Nutty flavoring and spicy ness come off a healthy retro-hale. Final third of the bowl, I pick up a tiny floral almost cedar flavor. I do recommend this for those who want to know what a good modern take on a classic blend feels and tastes like.

This is a really special smoke. If you enjoy Haunted Bookshop, consider this the slightly more sophisticated version.

There are many similarities between this and HB. Both have the nutty burley up front. Both do something amazing in the last third of a bowl, where the tarry sweetness builds to a really cool chocolatey happy place. The burleys in the two are nearly identical. Both great smokes.

The difference is the cavendish. It adds a little body and sophistication to this mixture without taking away from the burley backbone. For those who have said they like burley but think HB tastes like cigarettes, here's your fix. (If you don't like burley, just look elsewhere anyway.... why are you here? lol).

The closest mixture I've found to this one is Devils Own by Drucquer & Sons. I actually prefer this mixture slightly, as I find the cavendish in Devil's Own just a little stronger and it takes the lead occasionally. I prefer it with the slightly backseat role of Americana, but I love both blends.

This is a sophisticated American blend for sure. If you don't like burley, go somewhere else. If you want a Five Brothers like blast of pure burley pain, go knock yourself out. But I haven't had an american blend handle the balance better than this one, so it's an easy 4 stars.

I am working my way through the 100s in the ol Cornell and Diehl line and agree with the the previous reviewers on the blend. I plan to update this review for I do like this blend. Is it the best of the bunch? Well for me I'd say no. I prefer Home From the Hills so far the best but that doesn't mean it isn't for the next smoker. I plan to update review in a few days.

This is a nice easy going American English blend, or as I like to call them 'Merican blends. Sporting a very approachable and simple profile including some sweetness, creaminess, leather, pepper, woodiness, and some grassiness. Packs and smokes very easy, and has a wonderful natural tobacco tin not. Overall a nice relaxing smoke.
