This is a unique tobacco unlike any other I've tried. It actually has an aroma to it similar to mushrooms. When smoked, it has a rich, sweet taste combined with a good dose of latakia.

This is a tobacco different from any other blend. If you like latakia and also like the occasional aromatic, this is for you.

I?m not a disciple of Tolkien, therefore the name, though quaint, means nothing to me. At first, I thought maybe they put mushroom essence in this thing. Not the strangest thing I ever heard of considering that the late Cellini of Chicago used to produce a chicken soup blend, if you can believe that. Be that as it may, this is a most pleasant crossover English, perfect before a meal when something less obtrusive is desired. The manufacturer has to be the same company that produces Wilke?s blends. The aromatic vanilla, slightly fruity Cavendish reminds me of Pipemaker?s Choice. Though not enough latakia for my tastes, this is a nice blend that doesn?t overpower with sweetness as it satisfyingly whets the palate.

Three of five stars

Just for Him has to be one of the best kept secrets in the pipe smoking world.I found this while putzing around work on the computer. Their blends are so unique it is beyond description. 1st of all, I do not think there are any MUSHROOMS in this blend. 2nd - It is really good stuff. If you are a fan of the Wilke type cavendish you will love all the blends from JFH.They are masters of the Cross over English blend. This has a sweet, salty, earthy and smooth taste not found in any other tobacco I have smoked. The Experience was Frog Morton on the Town meets Pipe Maker's Choice from Wilke. A very full 4 stars for a crossover English.
P.S. Although there is none in this blend, JFH can be heavy HANDED WHEN USING PERIQUE.

Very very unique. This blend is in a league all its own. Unknowingly, this blend was my first latakia blend, and to this day, very likely still my favorite. As mentioned several times already, it imparts a slightly sweet, creamy, and QUITE BUTTERY taste. It leaves a slightly salty seasoned taste in the mouth, which reminds me very much of the aftertaste of mushrooms sauteed in butter and rich seasonings. It's earthy, mild, absolutely delicious...This one is worth trying, at the very least. And...at least for this old pipe smoker...one worth having on hand any time an excursion into farmer Maggot's field strikes my fancy. If anything can embody the spirit of a story or place, this blend does. I've used the word "treat" to describe its taste...which is something I have yet to use on another blend. Fantastic.

Shortcut to Mushrooms, hummmmmm, lets me think. This is a very pleasant smoke. It's the type of smoke a fellow could sit down and creat a new plan to catch that Roadrunner with!

On the draw, it has a creamy note that others have mentioned, both smooth and mild but very present. I like that. No sharp edges to draw me away from the taste. On the exhale, a not too subtle, not to imposing sweet that lasts.

I found my perfect companion to this smoke in Sobe Green tea. The tea mixes with the lasting flavor, then clears it for a new draw, making for a complete cycle that is never dissapointing.

I bought a new meerschaum for this, and it took a few bowls for the pipe to get use to it. Once it did though it became very possibly my favorite to date. I am the type of person that will save the best for the right time and place. This is a once a week thing for me because I want to be able to enjoy it all to myself. Maybe buy a briar so I can take it fishing and forget about the roadrunner for a bit...

Update: Mushroom gets pushed up to four stars...I keep gobbling this stuff up! I have placed an additional two orders since review...and ordered some for a "box pass" I'm involved in. Yummy yummy stuff!

Shortcut To Mushroom another blend from Just For Him and my favorite from the Middle Earth Pipeweed line. I enjoy Latakia most so this one fits my bill just fine. Special thanks to the blenders in dar Shire.

I am not yet experienced enough to know what is going on in this blend but it pretty yummy. Another reviewer compared it to Frog Morton On The Town, one of my favorites, and thats a good comparison. As far as it tasting like mushrooms...I can't tell and I hate mushrooms. This blend just has a smoky/earthy feel and taste to it and burns cool. Sometimes this blend can give me a nice nicotine fog, eyelids a little droopy - nice and not overdone.

So if you like thee ole Lata and want to smoke something with a gimiki name then fire some of this up!

Shortcut to Mushrooms is what I would call an English aromatic. There is some aromatic component to it, but I don?t believe it?s in the form of a topping. And as to it tasting like mushrooms, I find that it has an earthy taste with an underlying sweetness, much in the way mushrooms do. While it isn?t a copy, If you like Frog Morton on the Town, I think you?ll like this one.

The components list is a bit vague on this one. The Just For Him website says Latakia, which is true. It also says mushrooms. I don?t think we are meant to take this too seriously! I think Black Cavendish and possibly something like Basma are involved here.

The tobacco is a bit damp as it comes out of the bag, as I have found with other JFH blends. It?s not unsmokable, but it improves with a bit of drying. The burn is nice and even, all the way to the bottom of the bowl.

Latakia is the first thing you taste, but the others come in pretty quickly and strike a good balance. The influence of the Latakia is there throughout, providing a full, cool, smokey experience. The flavors actually mingle a bit, so this one actually has some dimension to it.

Whether you try this one because of the name, or for the unusual flavor, or just because you are a Tolkien fan, you should try it. These reasons aside, this tobacco deserves a try on its own merits.

If you contact Just For Him directly, you can get a smaller quantity than the 1 pound bags they offer on the website.

This has to be without a doubt my favorite aromatic. In fact, it's my favorite Latakia blend period. Not too weak, not too strong, but just right. Upon opening the bag, the mildly sweet aroma of vanilla and a touch of latakia blend to create an aroma all it's own. Actually, it sort of does give off a scent that reminds one of mushrooms, but it's more of an earthy aroma brought about by one of the tobaccos used in the blend.

Although somewhat moist, it packs easily enough and burns evenly. It leaves no dottle in the pipe as it burns to a white ash. It leaves a ploom of thick brown and blue tinted smoke as you puff. The flavor doesn't disappoint and tastes mildly sweet and creamy on the tongue without a bite.

The latakia can be easily detected but in no way overpowering as it adds to the smoking experience.

I highly recommend this blend and would give it the highest marks.
