Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. Black Cherry Twist

(2.52)
This is a twist made from the same ingredients as the Black and Brown Irish X. It has additional Black Currant flavoring added during manufacture. Again, this is a very strong tobacco as it does not undergo the pressure cooking process.

Got a 2 inch sample of this. Easy to cut discs with a guillotine cigar cutter. This the most flavorful of the aromatic ropes I've tried. But still a powerhouse of nicotine. Smokes cool and dry to a ash. Needs some dry time before lighting. The Black Cherry is front and center but not over powering the tobacco.

I have smoked this for a couple of years now on a regular rotation. This is your typical Virginia twist tobacco. You get the earthy, smoked apricot flavours come through during the smoke. This is then finished off with a light cherry flavour. It is not cherry in proper sense. It is more like candy cherry flavour like cherryade. It is very pleasant and reminds me of sweets when I was smaller... or now everyone is partial to some sweets or cherryade.

It is very moist and quite sticky when you cut it and rub it out. It takes a little longer to dry to a usable level but it is worth it. It is a pleasant smoke, a bit like a dessert smoke. It has the usual high amount of vitamin N and can require some relights if it’s not dry enough. It does not bite.

I couldn't agree more with Warwick it's nothing like coconut twist. I sliced and dice it and let it dry for couple of hours I think that's where it's mistaken.. shouldn't let it aired that long maybe I'll try in my next bowl. I got no cherry or just figs at the very end of bowl and all I got from it was Cigary smelling taste and aroma. I might edit this review after trying different times of letting it dry and let see. But for now it's just 2 starts.

Like the coconut variant of GH brown rope, this one does not actually taste like its named flavor. Instead, the flavoring only serves to contour the robust brown rope's natural flavor. Even exhaling through the nostrils, I cannot discern black cherry or blackcurrant - only a full, rounded heartiness ever-so-slightly-sweet replacing the usual leathery brown rope flavor, yet retaining the occasional cigar-like inflections. Its a combination that works pretty well.

The only way I have found this to burn reliably is as follows: slice off thin disks; chop them up coarsely; set them out to dry; once bone-dry, pick up a bunch in your hand and crunch the crisp strands into tiny pieces (between dust and 1/4"). Doing this, the blend will light easily and will burn at a steady pace with the occasional puff.

I usually prefer Sliced Black Twist for its convenience in preparation and flavor profile, but this will be a nice occasional change of pace. I daresay I might even prefer this over unflavored Brown Bogie/Brown Twist.

I got no cherry flavor out of this. With the coconut, I did. Weird. It's very strong. Almost too strong, and I like strong tobaccos. It was just not that great.

This is a nice rope, but it could have been better. Along with the very mild black cherry flavor is an equal amount of Lakeland floral. They combine to create a flavor that, while not unpleasant, doesn't really resemble black cherry, which is the flavor I wanted when I bought this. Would it kill these guys to leave out the florals just once? Anyway, despite the flavor combo, it's still a good, solid smoke. The tobacco flavor is the typical GH Virginia rope that I have an affinity for. Kinda generic, but very tasty. This would have been 4 stars without the florals. As is only 3.

Medium in body. Medium to full in taste. Mild in flavoring. Burns well after some drying time.

Quite nice. I find the flavoring to be perfectly applied and it persists throughout the bowl, whisping in and out. Strong, but not overwhelmingly so. Didn't have to put it down like I have had to with the brown twists. No "motor oil" taste like some of the black twists. I like this stuff. I've sliced it into 1/8th inch rounds and rubbed out, dried well.

I'll smoke the rest of the ounce that I have and decide whether I'll purchase more. Probably will...

First I had to slice off a few slices of this tobacco, and rub it out. I did not let it dry. This is a very strong tobacco, not for the meek! It is a pain in the but to get it ready to smoke, but I like this tobacco. The casing is hardly noticable. I Recommend this tobacco. At least give it a try if you like a tobacco that punches you in the gut!

I guess I'm the dissenting opinion here. I sliced two thin coins from the rope and stuffed them in a small to medium lovat dedicated to Virginia blends. It lit right away and I tasted tobacco, smooth as silk, but full. The cherry is hiding and only appears intermittently, nothing like the other descriptions here. I smoked slowly and it did go out once due to my inattentiveness, but the relight was easy. I didn't relight immediately after it went out as I was being cautious about the high nicotine content. It accompanied an Ommegang Belgian-style Pale Ale. Neither overpowered the other. I have to add, this is one of the smoothest tobaccos I've ever smoked. There weren't any nuanced flavors other than the occasional whiff of topping; it started and ended tasting about the same. I liked it.
