Orlik Tobacco Company A/S Everton

My first impression after the first few bowls was totally "meh". While not bad enough not to use the whole pouch little by little, I thought I wouldn't like this and wouldn't buy it again. Then something funny happened; as the days passed I found myself more and more often reaching for the Everton pouch instead of the slightly aromatised Amphora Full, which is my regular staple. By the end of the pouch the 2- or even 1-star first impression had transformed into a firm 3-star one. Why?

The trick is that Everton is an extremely basic, unpretentious blend of pipe tobacco. So basic, that when smoked in between aromatics and english blends and whatnot, it fails to impress at first. The clean-cut ribbon packs, lights and burns without trouble and even the pouch note is that of a packet of cigarettes (the good kind). But if you keep smoking it, it may grow on you - or at least it did to me! It's a burley blend but mixed with enough basic Virginia to mellow the woody cocoa down a bit. I think this is what fooled me at first and as the pouch aged a bit, the burley started to take over more and more, making it more and more enticing to a burley lover like me.

A solid 3-star all day smoke with absolutely no frills, and I'll be surely adding a pouch or two to my next haul from The Danish Pipe Shop. I think I'll try to let it purposely age a bit next time, to try and bring the burley more forward from the beginning.

EDIT: Oh, and I do like the minimalistic pouch art - this is something I would have expected to see in the shop shelves in the 1970's 🙂 Also, as someone already mentioned, being so basic (in a good way) this would probably make a really good base for own blends.

I thoroughly enjoyed this blend. It was a well done, straight forward Virginia/Burley mixture that satisfied me immensely. The Nic hit was Medium to medium +. The flavor was not complex whatsoever. It was simple, honest tobacco that I could smoke all day. It was a tad moist when I packed it in a rather tall bowl. It didn't need any relights. It burned to a fine ash. I smoked the bowl rather fast as well. I found the taste to be very delightful. The Virginias were somewhat sweet, but not citrusy. The toasted burleys were the champion here. It had a very delicious and nutty flavor that dominated the flavor. I have smoked about 10 bowls of it so far and I really enjoy this tobacco. It reminds me of the quality of Burley that I get from Peretti's and Uhle's in the USA. The price of this is terrific. It's even affordable to buy from Denmark and have shipped to the USA. I can see why some folks might snub a blend like this and tout that it's really nothing complex or special. I get that. I do find it somewhat special because it is what it aspires to be and it does it very well. Ten stars from me. I recommend this to men like my grandfather and to those who prefer cold beer over delicate wines and don't mind getting their hands a little dirty while they are smoking it.

I ordered seven of the Danish OTC blends recently. After the now discontinued Larsen's Flake, this is my second favourite of the bunch. Mostly burley, it has just enough Virginia tobacco to liven up the experience; for me anyhow...tastes vary.

I found it similar to Mac Baren's Symphony, though biased somewhat more towards the burley. I would say if you like Symphony or Golden Extra, you'll like this. I don't find it different enough from those two blends to go to the trouble of special ordering it.
