Dan Tobacco Devil's Holiday
(2.79)
Inspired by a compilation of 1933-1934 Benny Carter recordings by the same name, Dan Tobacco's Devil's Holiday is a gentle Black Cavendish with tips of Golden Virginia, flavored with sweet wild forest berries. Hellishly good and heavenly delicious.

This is a great CAO tobacco to add to your ever growing list of fine tin tobaccos. I thought this smoked great from start to finish and had a great roomnote. It is very flavorfull and the wild forest berries are fully tasted through-out the smoke. I recommend this high quality tobacco to anyone who is enjoys rich aromatics! MZMN 8-24-06

I do not typically smoke aromatics, but my tobacconist asked me to critique a sample of this for him. I was very pleased with this tobacco. It smokes very well, with very little moisture. It has a very nice sweet flavor and aroma. It is supposed to be cased with flavoring of wild forrest berries, my guess was vanilla and cherries, but nevertheless I really enjoyed a bowl of this tobacco. I give it my full recommendation to aromatic smokers.
By the way I live in the U.S. so apparently this finally arrived.

I have been moving away from aromatics for quite some time. I have discovered that most aromatics aren't quite so wonderful as they claim themselves to be. However, on a recent trip to a Kaohshiung pipe shop, I spied a new Dan Pipe blend, a large tin covered with orange flames, billing itself as "The Jazzy Blend." I read the tin description. Sounds tasty, doesn't it? I gave it a try. This coarse, broken flake doesn't pack very well as it is, but a bit of chopping works wonders. Upon lighting, I discovered that Devil's Holiday is as aromatic as it claims to be. One is greeted by a potent, cool blast of fruitiness. Occasionally, as I progress down the bowl, I taste the base tobaccos, but for the most part, all I taste is the casing. But what a casing it is! It really is marvellous.
Devil's Holiday, along with von Eicken's Private Blend, has become the tobacco I smoke when I want something sweet and uncomplicated.
I haven't come across this tobacco on the websites of North American tobacconists, so I suspect it is still unavailable there. If it becomes available, grab yourself a tin.
Update: I tried mixing this tobacco with McClelland's Frog Morton. The resulting mixture, combined with a few epidodes of "Fawlty Towers," is an absolute joy.

Tin note: forest fruit, Smoke: forest fruit. Devil's Holiday certainly offers everything it claims to. This blend is intensely aromatic and will leave a fruity aftertaste in your mouth for quite a while. The Cavendish and Virginias are present despite being overpowered by the flavouring. I have always had a soft spot for blackcurrant, growing up my grandmother always had blackcurrant hard candies and it's a nostaglic flavour for me. This will certainly satisfy the aromatic lovers out there, and also nicotine lovers! There is a surprising amount of Vitamin N in here. The room note is very pleasant and fruity. Devil's Holiday will definitely ghost your pipe, so take care in picking a dedicated pipe for this because I expect it will take some repeated smoking to remove the ghost. Overall, I think this is a good blend — 3/4.

I really enjoyed this blend. I purchased the tin a while ago and decided to open it at the 9 year age mark. I see that Cherry is not listed as a flavoring and that kind of blows my whole opinion of this as I was going to say it was the finest cherry aromatic I have ever smoked. Well, berries, black currants, what have you, are in the same ballpark, I guess. This is a European aromatic and a fine example of the same. It is Virginia dominant and has the potential to bite the smoker possessing an overzealous tempo. The cavendish treatment does safeguard against this more than some other Euro Aros, but DH can still be a little prickly. The topping, which I thought was cherry, also has some vanilla element to it from what I can tell. It is judiciously applied and does not completely obscure the tobacco taste underneath. It also hangs well through to the end of the bowl, with minimal loss of effect. It burns easy and does not require too much maintenance. If I was still buying tobacco, I would buy more of this one.

You must like aromatics to even try this tobacco. When tin is opened it gives strong wild forest berries smell, and it also follows it during smooking. It smokes well with pleasant aroma. It is recommended for aromatic loving person as something they should try. It is not giving chemical aftertaste and is something you would smoke to relax and enjoy your day

If you're looking for a strong, fruity aromatic, this is it! The aroma and taste is that of a Strawberry Newton. It's a great experience all around. However, the nicotine kick was a bit much for me, as I smoked it on an empty stomach (big bowl as well), so be aware.

I checked out some reviews here and they were saying that this one is sweet, too sweet, I decided to try it.
Surprisingly, not only this blend isn't sweet at all, it is so bitter and drys my mouth!
after checking the reviews again I found some reviews saying this one is bitter and dry tasting, which is correct.
I suspect some people don't even bother trying this blend and review it based on rumors. It is as sweet as Bitrex.
